  1. Ruffy, If it was a day trip, I'd be glad to help out. Let me know if you want my kit? Randy
  2. My favorite .357Mag/38special revolver is a Dan Wesson. Very accurate. For target shooting, .38 hollowbase wadcutter bullets seem to be the most accurate. I also like the Ruger .22lr heavy barrel for target shooting.
  3. Can't keep a good man down for too long...

    Good luck Art.
  5. Its just a mounting plate for 2 switches (of your choice, that you add to the plate). Use the switches for anything... I was thinking about moving my driving light switch and a switch for some LED bling.
  6. but not annoyed enough to switch motorcycles. Is it a fault ? sometimes. All bikes have faults. The fact we talk about it doesn't mean that in the balance of things it makes us dislike the bike. And overall, the noise level is much less than many other bikes.
  7. There is a write up with pictures in the 2nd gen tech section. The engines are mostly the same. The specifics for the first gen are in the Yamaha service manual for which there is a pointer in the 1st gen tech section.
  8. I was concerned too. But in reality all motorcycles make noises, and even a RSV with unusually load whine isn't as loud many other bikes 'normal' noise. I came to this conclusion after taking demo rides on several other makes of large motorcycles.
  9. The FTM 10 looked good for a 2m/440mhz rig when I read the specs. It appears the 5W version is discontinued.
  10. Question. Does your hand/wrist rub the bracket if you slide your hand all the way up the grip? It looks like it might.
  11. Thanks for the suggestions. Waterproof is a desirable feature.

  13. I'd like a radio I could also use on 10 and 6 meters in the technician bands. Add those features, and this radio isn't out of the ball park. Plus it would give me incentive to get my General Class license. I've saved the HRO page for this new/unavailable unit and will check it periodically. I may buy one of the $50/new Baofeng handytalkies first. The 7100 seems to have all the latest bells and whistles and the detachable control panel looks like it could be mounted on the RSV gas tank for easy reach
  14. The reason the clearance gets less is that as the valve slams back into the head, it wears the face of the head slightly.
  15. New Ham radio licensee (technician class) here. I expect to operate as W0JWD which is my Dad's original call sign issued to him in the late 1930's when he was a teenager. I passed the technician exam 3 weeks ago, got my call sign, and immediately applied to get my Dad's old one assigned to me under the FCC 'vanity' call sign program. My Dad's old call show up as unassigned in their database, so was eligible for me to request. The current Technician Class license is quite easy to get with a little electronics knowledge. 35 questions, 75% passing. A local ham club offered a 4 hour cram course followed by the test. almost everyone passes. I had studied online a week prior and decided to skip the 4hour cram, as I already knew the material. I'll buy a HandyTalkie for 2 meters and 440mhz as starters, but may look for a real mobile unit to mount on a motorcycle. I decided to do this after driving an emergency pickup car with bicycle rack on it during a local bicycle race last fall. Most of the other drivers were hams and there were ham stations set up along the course for communications. This got me looking at the requirements for a license, which I knew had changed since I had looked at it when I was a teenager. The new ICOM 7100 looks like an ideal mobile radio. http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/hamhf/3071.html
  16. Sounds complicated.??? Hopefully we see you on the road this summer. good luck.
  17. I have a kit with shim tool and assorted shims. You can borrow it if you exchange the shims with ones you take out. Any used in the range of 2.55-2.70 will need to be replaced with similar size as those are the ones most commonly needed and in short supply in the kit. Also Earl skydoc sells the needed cover gaskets and will lend you a tool and a shim kit if you buy gaskets from him. Member MiCarl sells shims and the tool. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=210
  18. Assuming you use Windows. use the Paint program File --- Open ---> your big picture Resize --> (Horizontal and Vertical start at 100%, change them to %smaller you want them to be) File save (save as a .jpg type file) File Properties will tell you how big it now is on disk.
  19. Windows 8 running here. Got a bottom of screen Windows popup that said vr2.exe not a commonly run program and only gave me an option to delete. Used a pulldown option to get the download to complete. Tried to run it and nothing happened. Had to use [rt click] 'run as administrator' to get it to run and install. It shows up in my Control Panel > personalization screen as the screen saver. The screen saver runs for about 30 seconds then disappears? Maybe because the screen isn't really idle? Will see what happens when I walk away for a ferw minutes.
  20. probably not a good weekend for me as I have a local festival I help with that weekend here in Dahlonega, GA. Otherwise I'd consider a ride down to Florida. While this sounds promising, The show is at the time Yamaha announces its new line-up every year, so isn't likely to be anything special. If the economy picks up, and sales pickup, then I expect Yamaha will be more likely to announce a few more new bikes. That said, I'm relatively happy with what I'm riding now.
  21. So the Mounties give ya back your FJR and you're spoilin for some excitement????
  22. The EAA is a good choice from my experience. I believe its based on the Czech CZ75 and magazines should be relatively easy to find as lots of them were made.
  23. They're Austrian circa 1870-1890. From left to right Artillery NCO, Uhlan Officer (cavalry), and Naval Officer. (The northeast coast of the Adriatic was Austrian prior to WWI).
