  1. The hole the dentist made in your tooth is where the NSA had the dentist insert the radio tracking device. Not to worry, though.
  2. I think a hang glider would be the way to travel there.
  3. It looks good. If it runs reliably, it could be a keeper.
  4. this thread is useless withiout the pics....

    Tacho

Not all tachs time the same way due to the differences in the way coils fire. I seem to recall that some plugs fire every stroke, not just every power stroke. So for those engines, the rpm is 1/2 the firing rate.
  6. I'm sure that putting a hunting license on the dashboard along with an orange hat scares them away.
  7. see you back here soon.
  8. There have been several threads in days past about people using non-stock bars on the RSV. Hopefully those who have tried other bars are still around and will jump in. I use the cruise control a lot on my bike and just rest the open hands on the controls most of the time.
  9. keep the good news coming
  10. Weston, Georgia. Population 75. And they're all nuts... I mean.. well ya'll know. mmm. looks good. http://merritt-pecan.com/shop/Thumbs.php?Category=PecanCandies If it was a couple hours closer, I'd take you up on the M&E
  11. good luck Lewis
  12. from the size of the radiator, I'll guess this is a true water cooled engine, not just cooled heads as their new Ultra engine is.
  13. A Vstrom would have been on my short-list if the seat wasn't too high for me to ride comfortably.
  14. The Harley plant where these are built just east of Kansas City offers tours to the public. There are 2 levels of tour. A free tour, and a $35 tour that includes close-up viewing of current production lines. I may just take Harley up on one of their $35 tours. Hmm. I wonder if I can get in their parking lot with my RSTD? I do expect that the die-hard Harley riders will snub riders of these machines. H*ll, my nephew with a Vrod says he's snubbed. Thats OK, I'm used to it. My last Harley was 125cc 2-stroke, so this would be a step up.
  15. I bought a new 79 XS1100 when it was the fastest production motorcycle made and had just set a world speed record for production bikes at Bonneville. It had more of everything then the 650cc Triumph I had previously. I liked it, a really good machine. I was living in Maryland at the time, and rode the XS1100 all up and down the east coast for several years.
  16. yes. despite what I said above, I agree, that for our engines, its a good idea. Maybe even sooner as suggested. btw, I recommend changing the rear gear oil then too even though Yamaha doesn't call for that until the next oil change. I saw crud in the old rear gear oil the first time I changed the gear oil.
  17. Nope. Made in Kansas City, MO for the Americas, in India for everywhere else.
  18. Not to make this seem like a trend. But I'm thinking about a new bike in the under 1000cc class for local riding. Bikes on my short list are the Yamaha Bolt (stripped down 950cc), Motoguzzi V7, Triumph Bonneville, and the Honda CTX700 Just saw a Cycleworld web page on a new Harley model to be available shortly, the Street 500 and Street 750, water cooled V-twins. I like the looks and specs. http://randyrick.us/motorcycles/Pictures/2014-Harley-Davdison-Street-750small.jpg http://www.cycleworld.com/2013/11/04/2014-harley-davidson-street-500-and-street-750-revealed-at-eicma-2013/
  19. Bob, I used to think this too. But in talking to a savvy dealer mechanic a couple years ago I was told that is no longer necessary because of improved metals and machining techniques today for some of the more expensive automobile engines. But I can remember when a new vehicle came with breakin oil. Randy
  20. The reason for a root canal is that decay and/or infection has reached the root(s) of the tooth that go into bone. The root is then drilled out thru the tooth and a filling made and/or the tooth capped. A tooth can have multiple roots, up to three if I remember correctly. The origonal dentist should have explained it and why it was necessary in your case. That said, I've had 3 root canals (by the same specialist) and the procedure was generally painless and not to be worried about. I think that improved anesthesia and techniques and instruments make the root canal less of a worry than it was once upon a time. I still have all three teeth, the oldest root canal was done about 15 years ago.
  21. Newer drives have their own internal microprocessors and memory with code in them that controls error correction and bad block movement and optimizing speed in various ways. ie, they're smart drives, but not all manufacturers do this exactly the same way (no standard). said another way. The disk drive's internal logic presents the data to the operating system in a more-or-less standard way but underneath may use proprietary methods to achieve performance and capacity that wasn't envisioned by Windows developers. The V7 and earlier Windows image backup saves and restores boot information which contains low level code in a very specific format. Its difficult for the new high capacity smart disks to 'fake' this specific boot image format. btw. one of the best improvements in Win 8 is its ability to boot up very fast as compared to previous versions of Windows.
  22. The 4T twin oil is for large air cooled engines which get hotter than our water cooled engines do.
  23. The problem is that the backup program with Win 7 (and earlier) isn't able to to handle image backups if the low level hardware sector size is too big. However, the low level sector size is not changed when one re-partitions to smaller partitions. Microsoft officially considers this as working as designed. I know, because I filed a bug report with them after buying a 3tb usb external disk to do backups a year ago of a new Win 7 system with a 2tb internal disk. Not a problem under Windows 8 which has a new backup program. Why the Win 8 backup program isn't available for older Win 7 users is probably a marketing and not technical decision, since the underlying file structure didn't change.
