  2. Dynodon hasn't been on the forum for several weeks. Hopefully he's just too busy helping his neighbors right now to worry about the internet.
  3. WARNING I had a bogus virus alert when viewing this web page that wanted me to download a program to 'clean up' my system
  4. motorcycles...... not snowmobiles.....
  5. There's a company in Russia that is starting to offer small submarine-type nuclear reactors for sale as mini electric power plants. I'm waiting to see one show up in a motor coach.
  6. The 2008 RSTD handlebars are 1D6-26110-01-00 at http://www.yamahapartshouse.com/oemparts/a/yam/5004684df8700209bc79634e/steering-handle-cable The handlebar for a 1997 Yamaha XVZ13AJ is part number 4NK-26111-01-00 at http://www.yamahapartshouse.com/oemparts/a/yam/50043ca9f8700209bc78d79d/steering-handle-cable I think these are the Yamaha parts numbers You should be able to find what you need at these online sources. I haven't compared an older TD side by side with a newer RSTD to know if they are exactly the same or not. Maybe someone else has. Its a slightly different part number.
  7. pictures I saw from Washington, IL were of a residential area almost completely leveled. another news report says 3 dead. God bless.
  8. So how much money have you contributed to your local political parties?? huh? huh? I'm being sarcastic of course. The recommendation to get a lawyer sounds like good advice.

    Got Rice??

Just drink the alcohol instead. . . . (I suspect the medical alcohol used is the type which is called 'specially denatured' which contains an additive which makes it taste bad and will make a drinker quite sick)
  10. Yikes. $54/gallon (on sale). it should be verrry good. I hadn't heard of it before.

    Got Rice??

I've used cans of Sterno to cook since I was a kid camping with the Scouts. That looks like something I'll have to try. say.. what brand of beer was that? Kozel http://www.kozelbeer.com/en a Czech beer. I'll have to try it. edit. did a search for it. Kozel is now part of the Miller-Coors conglomerate, but doesn't appear to be 'normally' available in the US although there is a distributor in Canada.
  12. The Wally World here does an eye health exam with dilation test and and the funny depth perception machine test etc. I'm sure its part of state law that requires all optometrists to be trained in and do these exams. Based on doing some research on the internet a year ago, Wally World and the opthamologist MD I last used both get their lens and frames from the same company. I don't recall any mention of Mexico, but thats possible. I've had no quality problems with the 3sets of glasses I've gotten at WM. I can't vouch for any WM except the one here.
  13. I liked the old-style standard seat reworked by Rick Butler on my RSV, better than the factory seat on my RSTD. Which reminds me to get Rick to do his magic on my RSTD seat while winter is upon us. I don't care for the new pillow-top RSV seat, which many love. ymmv There is a thread here somewhere about mounting a RSV seat to the RSTD. If I don't find the Butler mod RSTD seat as comfortable as my old RSV seat, I can always buy a used one and fit it to my RSTD. I also found the handlebar placement of the RSV slightly more comfortable than that of the RSTD, but only marginally so. I suspect that is highly rider specific, as some riders prefer the bars of the RSTD.
  14. I decided to try a new generic cholesterol medication (statin). My Dr issued a new prescription for one. Cash and carry prices varied a LOT for a 90 day supply of the pills. 1. mail-order online pharmacy, US based and registered, $33. 2. wal***t $130 3. Rite-*** $340 The same FDA approved medication, likely made by the same company, certainly to the same formulation. I'm not using my medicare Prescription Drug Plan insurance. The PDP medicare prescription drug insurance plans either have very high deductibles and/or have higher pharmacy prices than the cash price for the same prescriptions. Why pay $1,000 a year for the privilege of paying extra for your meds? For those who have meds which cost $100/pill, it appears to be a necessary expense. But in this case it appears to be a rip-off.
  15. sounds like the symptoms I had when the battery connections were loose. check the easy things first.
  16. I change eye prescriptions every 2 years or so. I had a couple sets of glasses made at Walmart and was very happy with the optometrist and the glasses. My insurance wasn't good at Walmart, but the price of the glasses & prescription was less than the co-pay plus extra charges elsewhere. That said, for my last 2 pairs of glasses I decided to use the insurance company's list for a local opthamologist (MD). It was more expensive and I didn't care for the service. And the opthamologist seems to be more concerned about steering people to expensive surgery than fitting eyeglasses. I'll be going back to Walmart again for my next pair of glasses. Hopefully the new optometrist is as good as the previous one. I guess I need to take a look at VA and what I might be eligible for there. I don't have a military disability, but I've been told that I might be able to get some prescriptions filled thru VA, and using them for eyeglasses is a new one.
  17. seems to be a lot of that going around......
  18. welcome back to the nut-house
  19. looks like WD-40 with lanolin. should be good for many things I expect to see a band named Fluid Film though...
  20. yep. had a skim of ice on a flower pot full of water this morning. A sure sign we might get snow in Georgia for a day or two this winter.
  21. I'm not sure what to think about the lack of steadiness with the E3. The E3's are normally good tires. Was it balanced properly? Is the front wheel aligned properly? That said, I like the 130 width front tire on my RSTD, it seems to improve the handling (standard wheel). I have Avon's on mine.
  22. Whats Fluid Film? Is that a band you have on one of your cassettes?
  23. they are mechanically the same, including the gear box and final drive. They both have cruise control. Fairing, topbox and electronics are added to the Venture. The gas tank, handlebars and seat are slightly different, however will interchange with minor fitment. I find that a large bag on the luggage rack of the RSTD will hold more gear than a top box. usually I ride solo and the added passenger rest of the Venture wasn't a plus for me. The Venture (with fairing) may have slightly better aerodynamics. My (ex) Venture got about 1 mpg better fuel mileage than my RSTD at highway speeds.
