Since we're on the subject of BMW K bikes. Here's a pic of my dear departed 1997 K1100 rt/lt. I don't have a saved picture of it with the matching top box and saddle bags which were removable and I usually didn't leave them on the bike unless I was taking an overnighter somewhere. This was a really sweet bike for gobbling up the miles. And YES, it had a cassette player.

Its easier for current politicians to get contributions from a single fat-cat who is benefiting from the laws and economic policies, than it is to get an equal contribution amount from a hundred workers trying to save enough money to put their kids thru school and save enough for retirement.

Puc, it sounds like you're not going to leave much wiggle-room for Mama-Yama this time around? I guess its a matter of once fooled.....

I'm just talking to the wind. I do really like my RSTD but its getting just a bit heavy for me and I could use a slightly lower seat, both of which this Harley seems to have. That said, I do prefer watercooled and shaft drive, but they add weight. I'm not a Harley style rider and my preferred rides have been Triumphs over the years. I may have a senior moment and get a new bike, at least I keep looking. I've also looked closely at the 1200cc Indian and discontinued Victory vtwins.

I saw the new models a couple of days ago. I'll admit that this one appeals to me.

edit. Your reply got chopped off. No the XS1100 was an inline 4-cyl with shaft drive. I owned a new '79 blue XS1100 with bags and rack and small sissy bar. The Venturer fairing was being offered as an after market upgrade at the time. It was great motorcycle. But I was a hang in the wind rider until I bought a 97 BMW with full fairing in 2001 or so. When I bought my XS1100 in 79, Cycle World Magazine declared it the fastest production motorcycle.

I've seen it suggested that Harley sold the design quietly to Yamaha. But, I don't know. It wasn't a big step for Yamaha from the XS1100 Venturer to the Gen1 Venture.

good article. I agree that keeping your eyes on nearby road isn't as good of a habit as watching farther ahead. And in general, I'm never comfortable riding in a pack for this very reason. Some of the articles comments about less safe habits I think come from group riding, although the study never mentions that explicitly.

I'm glad you're ok and here to talk about it. And that there were no fatalities or serious personal injuries despite all the damage that was done to multiple vehicles.
