  1. You found a good ride it would seem. I like that color scheme too. Give me a shout if you ever cruise towards Georgia.
  2. I wondered why Soc Sec wanted me to bring a copy of my DD214 when I applied last fall. BTW, good thing there's Soc Sec, because the 401K I thought I was going to live on has become next to worthless. It seems someone else managed to spend all my savings for me.
  3. mush you huskies.....
  4. I looked at the specs for the sintered vs organic pads. The better stopping power of the sintered seemed to justify buying them, as afterall, stopping is what brakes are for. But... if the brake system is engineered for sufficient stopping power with normal brake pads, what does sintered pads (in terms of locking the thing up sooner/faster) achieve? Am also a bit concerned about the increased wear the sintered pads do to the rotors themselves. Actually I have bought a set of sintered pads for a Triumph I have, but am not needing to install them yet. I'm just thinking aloud, since this thread has me thinking along these lines.
  5. so how does the concierge open the door for you on this model?
  6. Who'd a thunk it? Used to have to go to Temple for a pizza and beer after 5pm because nothing in Belton was open except the laundromat
  7. Congrats on the acquisition of the Venture. Belton Texas, huh? I lived there for 2 years 1969/1970. Fond memories... I know its changed a lot.
  8. How 'bout a picture of you & your bike in front of a larger-than-life musical instrument. Something you might find in front of a music landmark, nightclub, recording studio, music store or something. Has to be at least 3 or 4+X normal scale to qualify. Somebody in Nashville should score this easily...
  9. yep. can't trust those lights, or anyone else on the road...
  10. http://www.bohn-armor-pants.com I found a link to this site while browsing. The pants look interesting, I already have an armored jacket that I like. Has anyone used Bohn armor or have an opinion. I broke my right arm & shoulder in an accident 3 years ago, so am getting back into riding more cautiously than I have been in the past.
  11. Yep. Blue and Black is faster, and gets better gas mileage too.
  12. so. did ya bring home any choice cuts? ... glad to hear you're ok. deer are a real problem here.
  13. I'll watch for the movie locally. If not, it will eventually make it to DVD. Live well while you can my friend. God be with you. there's a web page for the movie http://oneweek.ca/
  14. Good to see you back. Good luck tomorrow....
  15. click on the Venture History link near the top left of the page. That may explain what you want to know.

    Helmet Help

I ordered a new helmet in the special clearance section last week. Got it already. A nice quality full helmet. 1 HJC CL-SP Barbwire Helmet - MC-2F Flat Black/Blue/Silver, Size XL [$89.00] from New Enough. also bought an armored jacket at $50 http://www.newenough.com/closeouts/helmets/hjc/cl_sp_barbwire_motorcycle_helmet.html If you buy from them, when you check out there is a place to donate $1 to this forum, which the dealer will contribute (doesn't cost you the $1)
  17. I hear ya about keeping the dealers in business and making friends with them. I went ahead and got myself scheduled in at 10am tomarrow morning. He'll do the 600 mile while I wait. Said it would take less than 2 hours. I guess there was a cancelation because of the incoming inclement weather and possible snow due about then... brr. Its not too far, about 15 miles. Maybe he'll let me observe.... That wouldn't be bad for my education. But I'll definately plan on doing most of my own routine maintenance, and keep the receipts for oil, filters and other parts attached to a dated log. Thx
  18. My new RSTD was purchased last week and now has 630 miles on it and is due for the 600 mile service. I don't see anything on the checklist for service due, that I can't do myself. I've ordered one of the Carb Tunes, can change my own oil and filters, etc, and have a Sears MC jack already with one of the Carbon_one lift adapters on order. BUT, I want to keep my warranty valid. Do I have to take it to a dealer and pay for the 600 mile service? And all the scheduled services thereafter until the end of the 5 year warranty period? I'm willing to keep a signed and dated log book with the bike to indicate when and what work I did on it.
  19. I ordered mine today directly from Morgan in the UK with toolbag. thanks for the pointer. price was 65pounds delivered which converts to $95.56 at today's rate.
  20. glad you both will be ok given a little time. ride careful everyone.
  21. oops. I knew I retired too soon... can this be made retro-active?
  22. on ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HONDA-MOLY-60-PASTE-GREASE-BEARINGS-OEM-GENUINE-NEW_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2em20Q2el1116QQhashZitem320353581990QQitemZ320353581990QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
  23. Yep. Made my $1 donation. Wish I had looked sooner, there were a couple items gone already I would have liked. I did buy a new full helmet on sale also.
  24. http://newenough.com/closeouts/bargain_basement/teknic/chicane_textile_motorcycle_jacket.html Thanks. I'm going to order one.
  25. Here's a picture of the $60 Walmart tent. Its the blue and black one behind my white Mercury car. http://randyrick.us/LBJam2008/Camping2.jpg Its a 6 man tent, and quite roomy and high enough for me to stand in (I'm 5'9"). It is not a cold weather tent. Its light weight and has screening under the rain fly which can make it breezy if the wind is blowing. Great for moderate to warm weather though. It does roll up into a compact enough package that I anticipate carrying it on my RSTD along with a sleeping bag and thick airmattress bungeed onto the passenger seat.
