I can't believe someone can kill another person with a motorvehicle and only get a ticket. My heart goes out to the family.

tall vs short windscreens
RandyR replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
So far, when it rains, the rain has clouded my windshield so badly that I can't see thru it, so I'm either craning my neck or looking off the side of it. The top is maybe 1/2inch above my eye level on my RSTD. I'm heading for the local Yama dealer to buy some Spectra which has been recommended as a cleaner which makes the rain bead and run off. If that doesn't improve things, then I'm going to be taking about 3inches off my windshield soon.- 21 replies

I have purchased a Baron's Tach and need to install it to the coils. Seems to be a good candidate project for maintenance day. Also want to learn to use the Carbtune I have. I'll want to help (hopefully someone else) pull a 2nd gen rear wheel, change a tire, and grease the shaft & splines.

It was a good ride despite the brief time in the rain. The BBQ at Pooles was great and meeting a bunch of new people was great also. And I got dropped off at my front door too!

Well, James should be on his way soon. looks like one storm front moving east of his route now, but another over Illinois headed his way. If he's lucky, he may push south between the two rain fronts.

hwy 160 is a good ride, but more so in the eastern part of the state. I'd just drop a little south and cruise around Lake Bull Shoals on the local roads, or for a faster ride take Hwy 62 over to Mountain Home then back north to hwy 160 into Branson. Then the next day you could circumnavigate Table Rock Lake. Any of the secondary roads from Harrison crossing the White River or Norfolk River will be good rides.

GAS mileage question
RandyR replied to knifeeven's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
If our speedometers are off by 10% which is what those who've checked them say, then we're not getting as good gas mileage as we think. So 40 mpg measured by the odometer is really only 36 mpg. -

Driver painting nails kills biker at stoplight.
RandyR replied to FutureVentures's topic in Watering Hole
someone who blows thru a red light and doesn't see a motorcycle could just as easily have killed a 10 year old girl in the crosswalk going to the school playground. A motorized vehicle IS a deadly weapon. -
It appears that EBC pads are frequently recommended. There are several threads in the VentureRider.Org > Tech Talk > Second Generation Venture Tech Talk section on Brakes. Here's one with the EBC part numbers. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=33588 I'm still a few months away from having to worry with less than 2k on my new RSTD.

At 5'9'' I find the riding position on the RSTD ideal. The comfort level is as good as it gets and I find the stock seat acceptable for the rides I've made so far (500 miles). I can plant both my feet firmly on the ground which is important to me. On an ST1300 that was difficult. The fairing/adjustable windshield on the ST is better than the setup on the RSTD. But overall the RSTD wins for me on rider comfort.

Paper service manual
RandyR replied to tommycole's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Thanks. Couple questions. Is this RSTD specific, or combined RSTD and Venture? Is it an actual printed & bound manual, or pages printed from the online manual on a laser printer? -
Baron Tach install on RSV
RandyR replied to boominup's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
thanks. I just bought a Baron's tach and am not happy with the mounting angle on my 08-RSTD handlebars. I'll take a look at whats available from Ram Mount. -
about 3 hours south of there is Dahlonega, GA (where I live). Lots of good riding roads between the Dragon and here. Follow highway 129 south to hwy 19. Good riding all points in between. Helen GA about 30 miles east of here is a favorite destination on a motorcycle. Good restaurants, hotels and night life there. Richard B Russell Highway 138 and Brasstown Bald is a good ride just north of Helen.

Great pics. Thanks. I'll have to get there on my bike soon.

My Harley's New Garage Bud
RandyR replied to MasterGuns's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Looks like a good garage-mate. Hopefully the seafoam and some fresh gas does the trick. If not, you'll get plenty of advice here on what to do next... -
