  1. yes indeed, very special. The other riders can only wish they had as nice a bike.
  2. Yep. Very good news. Shoulder surgery has come a long way the last few years but is still painful and can take a while before full use is available. I had orthroscopic surgery 2 years ago, ie: a small incision where a mini camera was stuck in and then a couple more small incisions where a robotic arm went in and stapled everything back together. The Dr. did it all watching a tv screen, like a computer game.
  3. I wonder what happened?
  4. thx guys. I wondered about the comfort of the rear seat with the backrest installed.
  5. swapping the two pads (since they wear unevenly) seems to be a trick I've read some riders do to get a little extra mileage out of their pads. Good luck. I'm about 4 hours away also and have a Yamaha dealer nearby where I'm sure I could buy some pads to bring to you if necessary. tele seven ought six - two eight bogus four - two four bogus eight four The nearest dealer to you appears to be 15 miles away: MOUNTAIN MOTORSPORTS 3422 ADVENTURE LN KODAK, TN 37764-1973 Ph: 865-932-7433 RandyR
  6. I looked at the utopia web site. The seat's mounting hardware attached inside the passenger seat. Does that have any negative impact on the seating comfort of a passenger? I have an RSTD. thx
  7. Had MRI on my rt shoulder 2 years ago and had to have surgery to repair some torn cartilage. Was on light duty for almost a year and no MC riding. If they operate, make sure you go to a physical therapist for a program of progressive exercises to build it back up slowly,
  8. This thread reminded me that I need to add a battery tender/power outlet to my RSTD. I have a Deltran battery tender that I use with my Triumph and I mounted to the battery a pigtail with 7.5 amp fuse and covered 2pin outlet which is tie wrapped to the frame under the seat. I also have a small powered air pump which uses the same SAE 2-pin plug. I just found a source on ebay for the SAE 7.5 amp 2pin socket / fuse / pigtail for $8 shipped, which I will add to my Royal Star. http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/solarcapitalist don't get the 3amp version.
  9. I've seen the specs on the 950 tourer and thought it might be a good machine sometime in the future. It has a belt drive rather than a shaft. I wanted to take a test drive on one during a demo day locally a couple weeks ago, but had a last minute change of plans and couldn't ride it.
  10. Lesson #1. always treat a gun as if it is loaded.
  11. Lee makes a hand loader which takes normal dies, and is good for making small quantities of ammo. I use Accurate #5 powder for most of my pistol loads also. As has been said, FMJs are what the 9mm pistols need which make them a little more expensive to shoot than a .38spl which can take lead wadcutters for target use.
  12. I came close to doing the same thing once, guess I can't talk and think at the same time...
  13. out of curiosity, has anyone ever had the gendarmes ticket/warn them about having BLUE lights installed. Particularly ones that blink? btw. I'm looking to add some lighting to the back of my 08 RSTD, so am keeping my eyes peeled. $13.49 for a 12 inch flexible strip might just be the thing. At least its cheap, even if I eventually put something else on.
  14. If you're thinking of dropping south from Asheville, let us know when and where and maybe some of the north Georgia riders can join you for a leg of your trip. RandyR in Dahlonega, GA. 40 miles south of the NC state line.
  15. Thats a great deal. Just pick it up on the ride to Maintenance Day.
  16. I've seen them advertised that way, ie: just stick it under the clear map holder.
  17. Changed my mind. I'm bringing my own tent. But could use some of that wine when I get there to relieve the miseries.

  19. I think a ride to Cedar Point, The Roller Coaster Capitol of the World is in order... http://www.cedarpoint.com/
  20. Ok, looks like several choices for magnetic mount. Is anyone using a non-magnetic mount - ie: with straps around the tank or otherwise fastened? Dragerman - is the Joe Rocket pack your dog is in magnetic? thx
  21. Has anyone found a good tank bag/large bib with a map pocket (clear plastic cover) on top. For an RSTD. I'm avoiding getting a GPS, which probably says I'm old fashioned.
  22. Used a fingernail to remove it after it got good and hot in the Georgia sun. Then a dab of naptha on a towel to clean up the glue residue.
  23. I bought rear gear oil at my Yamaha dealer yesterday. He gave me the Yamalube SAE 80W-90 which states "friction modified shaft drive gear oil". So it must have some kind of fiction reducing additive. But what that additive might be isn't on the label. At 1650 miles, or 1000 miles since my dealers 600 mile service, there was a lot of debris stuck to the magnetic end of the drain plug. So the advice to change the rear gear oil on a new machine several times before the scheduled 16000 mile service is good advice. For engine oil dealer gave me a jug of Yama 20-50, saying that Yamaha doesn't make a 20-40 any more, as recommended in the owners guide.
  24. I have a Sears red type MC jack I bought used on ebay about 6 years ago and haven't used since I bought it. It needed a lots of squirts of light oil, but along with my new Carbon-One adapter, worked fine on my RSTD.
