Yes, Good Luck Dooder. We'll be thinking about you.

I think the danger in jumping a MC from a car battery comes when you let the starter run too long or too much, overheat it, and possibly damage the windings & insulation. Short bursts should be ok from the car battery. I've never heard of having to replace spark plugs because of a flooded engine. If I suspect I've flooded an engine, ie: used a full choke a couple times without getting the engine to run, I just stop for a few minutes to let excess fuel work out of the combustion chamber, and off the plugs. If the plugs have lots of blackish buildup after normal running, then either one needs to adjust the carbs (jets) to get a leaner mixture, or run a hotter plug, or both.

So how did Georgia get left out of this event... ??? Btw, a beautiful friday and saturday here too, sunny and warm, but not too hot yet. I rode back to Pooles in Ellijay for some more of the Col's ribs. yum. Two wheel scoots of all sorts on the road today.

amen, The last generation when this country truly pulled together accomplished so much.

Yep. Weather for next saturday in Oberlin is GOOD. no rain forecast. However there is a chance of rain on the ride up there and again coming back, per current forecast. I need to test packing a tent and sleeping bag on my Tour Del. Oh yes, I have a new luggage rack to bolt on this weekend, although I'm not sure I need it. Weather is good today. Time for a ride. I might as well put fresh oil & filter & rear gear oil in before taking the trip. My MD projects will be to hook up a Baron's Tach and do a carb sync. Lets roll... I can smell the cheesecake already !!!!

The Yamaha FJR has an automatic transmission. The FJR1300AE model features a semi-automatic transmission which Yamaha calls YCC-S (Yamaha Chip Controlled-Shift). This system is a 5-speed sequential manual gearbox with a computer controlled clutch so that no clutch lever use is needed by the rider.

In yesterday's Dahlonega, GA newspaper, The Nugget. "Trooper not indicted in biker's death". A local motorcyclist was recently killed as he returned from a friend's funeral by a GA State Patrol car making a U-turn on Hwy 129 to go after a speeder. The DA said "He was doing his job, he turned on his lights, he made the Uturn, he didn't see the individual".

I wouldn't ride it. Too much power/weight. I'd be dead in a month. That said, the engineering in the engine is top notch. I think this engine in a detuned 100hp version would make a great power plant for a touring machine with comfortable seat, fairing, and large fuel tank. I think the next significant engineering milestone for motorcycle companies that want to stay in business will be to build a 90hp 700pound 2-up touring machine with bags and fairing that gets 60+ miles per gallon of fuel.

Is there a clutch adjustment?
RandyR replied to wes0778's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I looked up speed bleeder. Here's their web page: http://www.speedbleeder.com/Motorcycle%20Sizes.htm#Yamaha btw, I don't see the older Tour Classics listed. Are their brakes & lines the same? looks like a future MD project for me.- 8 replies

Oil outside carbs
RandyR replied to Sideoftheroad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Make sure you're not overfilling the engine with oil. -

Here's the new Norton website in Britain. Its a twin rotor Wankel of 588cc racer. Going to be running at Isle of Man with a street legal machine for sale in 2010. http://www.nortonracing.com/race/ I will admit to being intrigued by Wankel engines. Only the Norton logo looks familiar.

using Condor's link you will have to log in to your ebay account. Then on the upper left click on motorcycles to get rid of the accessories and parts listings. It looks like 20 listings. You should be to select the selling price for only bikes in good running shape. There are several damaged/parts bikes listed at low prices.

Still leaves unanswered where the oil came from. That's certainly worth investigating further.

Bryan, Bummer. I'm glad you aren't hurt any worse. Let us know if we can do anything for you?

The owners guide I have calls for 4,000 mile intervals for maintenance, including oil changes with Yamalube, which is a syn blend. I don't have enough miles on my RSTD to have a good feel for how dirty the oil gets. But in my car's Mercury V8, full synthetic oil is barely dirty at 5,000 miles.

sending in my registration. Will be staying at my house.

This is the first I had heard that term. I'm ex NG. I just checked the NationalGuard.com web site and no mention of a name change. It wouldn't surprise me if some states started to try to push back (more than they have already) on the mobilization of the Guard units for extended periods of time when there isn't a declared war.

I'll point out that Freebird's Maintenance Day in Ohio is June 06, and it would be great to hear about your trip while gathered with many of your friends from this forum.
