  1. Just getting online after returning from MD. Glad youy and the Mrs. are Ok. Thats whats important. There were a lot of dead deer along the road to and from MD this past weekend.
  2. Put fresh oil & filter and gear oil in the bike today, so as to be able to spend more time socializing when I get to Dr. Don's (The MD doesn't stand for Maryland, I don't think).
  3. Hey, way to go. You lucky dog.
  4. Coleman camp fuel is naptha which I believe is the same thing as 'white gas' and lighter fluid. Also used to be used for dry cleaning fluid. Walmart sells a generic can of camp fuel. So, is that what Sea Foam is?
  5. Glad to hear he received prompt attention and will be ok.
  6. I feel that its better to turn the petcock to OFF when the bike is going to be parked for more than a few minutes. Carburetor fuel floats aren't perfect shutoffs and some leakage will likely occur which will lead to a small amount of fuel evaporation and gum buildup in the carb. I've gotten in the habit of closing the petcock before turning off the motor if its going to be parked for a while.

    Must see

    thanks for posting this.
  8. Go back to the dealer with the information that the left rear carb is wet. it shouldn't be wet.
  9. Compression is not going to tell the whole story. If the clearance is too great then you will have good compression (probably). But the timing of the opening and closing of the valves will be out of design spec. For instance: the valves won't be opening soon enough, and won't stay open long enough for the proper fuel/air intake, nor for complete exhausting of the burned gases.
  10. I like great danes. Usually very intelligent. Someone will miss their dog, I expect.
  11. The few times I made my own tools, it was a good feeling to be able to use them.
  12. I think that web site is just a search engine trap with no real inside knowledge of anything. The Yamaha and Star web sites have nothing on the 2010 lineup yet, and I haven't seen anything yet elsewhere that looks factual. The internet has gotten to the point where half the web sites aren't real content providers anymore. Those sites have lots of buzz words and links to other web sites and make money (at a penny a click) to web sites that actually sell something. Think of them as the doorman you have to tip in order to get in to the restaurant where you have to leave a tip with the Maitre de to get a table, to eventually get some food.
  13. Ah....work. I think I remember that. nice ride.
  14. click on the history link at the top of the page to see who has contributed to the wiki.
  15. Looks like the model you're looking at uses small bottles of propane. Its likely that it could also hook up to a 20lb propane tank. The traditional style Coleman stove uses white gas / naptha for fuel. I've had one of those for 30 years, and my parents and grandparents also had them. As well as a Coleman lantern that burns white gas. On the traditional Coleman stoves, one would grill in a frying pan or on a camp griddle, but not on the open flame.
  16. thx Sounds like another easy maintenance day project to put some punch holes in my filler neck.
  17. I saw what I took to be red on gold/tan 1st gen around town twice today, first time I was on my blue/Black RSTD and waved as I made a left turn, 2nd time an hour later I was in my car. I was going to make a post too. let me know if you're going to be in Dahlonega.
  18. Great.. good news. John, welcome back.
  19. I suspect that punching a hole in the filler neck will have less affect on an RSTD like mine, than it does on a RSV due to the design of the tank. But has anyone done this to an RSTD & what affect did it have on volume of fuel that can be added?
  20. Weather report for the ride from Georgia to MD. Georgia - intermittent rain Thursday - clear on Sunday/Monday TN - scattered rain Thursday - clear Sunday/Monday KY - scattered rain Thursday - clear Friday - isolated storms Sunday/Monday OH - nice weather (10% chance of rain) Friday/Saturday - rain showers 30% sunday - storms 40% Monday So, chance of rain at the beginning of the trip up, and at the beginning of the trip back. But Friday and Saturday looks like good weather in Oberlin.
  21. Internet browsers users (which you must be if you're reading this) need to keep their option to display the STATUS BAR on. For most browsers thats the one line display under this window. In the status bar will be the actual internet named address that a link is going to send you to. The link display is not necessarily the same as what is in the status bar. Check whats in the status bar carefully when you hover your cursor over a web link. Only the last portion of an internet address has to be registered and validated by the internet routers ie: 'urscrewed.com' gets validated, while in 'paypal.com.urescrewed.com' the paypal.com portion is only validated at the urscrewed.com web site. Likewise in 'urscrewed.com/we.are.paypal.com/ the 'we.are.paypal.com' portion is a subdirectory on the recipient website, not a validated address. There are other variations along these two themes designed to confuse even the wary.

Looks like you had a great ride. Beautiful lakes...
  23. I've never been in the tank on this bike, but on the schematic it looks like #47 is the fuel float .. 47: SENDER UNIT ASSY, FU with an empty tank one may be able to loop/hook around the float and raise and lower it for testing purposes.
  24. You haven't said what model bike you have, but the suggestions are spot on so far. You might want to remove the tank, shake it good, and turn it upside down and drain it thru the filler opening. here's a schematic from bikebandit.com of what the petcock looks like, #22. http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/yamaha-motorcycle-xvz13ct-royal-star-tour-deluxe-2008-fuel-tank/o/m17106sch540465
