  1. Great.. good news. John, welcome back.
  2. I suspect that punching a hole in the filler neck will have less affect on an RSTD like mine, than it does on a RSV due to the design of the tank. But has anyone done this to an RSTD & what affect did it have on volume of fuel that can be added?
  3. Weather report for the ride from Georgia to MD. Georgia - intermittent rain Thursday - clear on Sunday/Monday TN - scattered rain Thursday - clear Sunday/Monday KY - scattered rain Thursday - clear Friday - isolated storms Sunday/Monday OH - nice weather (10% chance of rain) Friday/Saturday - rain showers 30% sunday - storms 40% Monday So, chance of rain at the beginning of the trip up, and at the beginning of the trip back. But Friday and Saturday looks like good weather in Oberlin.
  4. Internet browsers users (which you must be if you're reading this) need to keep their option to display the STATUS BAR on. For most browsers thats the one line display under this window. In the status bar will be the actual internet named address that a link is going to send you to. The link display is not necessarily the same as what is in the status bar. Check whats in the status bar carefully when you hover your cursor over a web link. Only the last portion of an internet address has to be registered and validated by the internet routers ie: 'urscrewed.com' gets validated, while in 'paypal.com.urescrewed.com' the paypal.com portion is only validated at the urscrewed.com web site. Likewise in 'urscrewed.com/we.are.paypal.com/ the 'we.are.paypal.com' portion is a subdirectory on the recipient website, not a validated address. There are other variations along these two themes designed to confuse even the wary.

Looks like you had a great ride. Beautiful lakes...
  6. I've never been in the tank on this bike, but on the schematic it looks like #47 is the fuel float .. 47: SENDER UNIT ASSY, FU with an empty tank one may be able to loop/hook around the float and raise and lower it for testing purposes.
  7. You haven't said what model bike you have, but the suggestions are spot on so far. You might want to remove the tank, shake it good, and turn it upside down and drain it thru the filler opening. here's a schematic from bikebandit.com of what the petcock looks like, #22. http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/yamaha-motorcycle-xvz13ct-royal-star-tour-deluxe-2008-fuel-tank/o/m17106sch540465
  8. The NGK plugs are on sale at MCSuperStore for $2.25 each in lots of 10 when our 10% discount is taken into account. (plus shipping for orders under $75). http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/3/13/123/18709/ITEM/NGK-DPR8EA-9---Spark-Plug.aspx
  9. Yes, Good Luck Dooder. We'll be thinking about you.
  10. I think the danger in jumping a MC from a car battery comes when you let the starter run too long or too much, overheat it, and possibly damage the windings & insulation. Short bursts should be ok from the car battery. I've never heard of having to replace spark plugs because of a flooded engine. If I suspect I've flooded an engine, ie: used a full choke a couple times without getting the engine to run, I just stop for a few minutes to let excess fuel work out of the combustion chamber, and off the plugs. If the plugs have lots of blackish buildup after normal running, then either one needs to adjust the carbs (jets) to get a leaner mixture, or run a hotter plug, or both.
  11. So how did Georgia get left out of this event... ??? Btw, a beautiful friday and saturday here too, sunny and warm, but not too hot yet. I rode back to Pooles in Ellijay for some more of the Col's ribs. yum. Two wheel scoots of all sorts on the road today.
  12. amen, The last generation when this country truly pulled together accomplished so much.
  13. Yep. Weather for next saturday in Oberlin is GOOD. no rain forecast. However there is a chance of rain on the ride up there and again coming back, per current forecast. I need to test packing a tent and sleeping bag on my Tour Del. Oh yes, I have a new luggage rack to bolt on this weekend, although I'm not sure I need it. Weather is good today. Time for a ride. I might as well put fresh oil & filter & rear gear oil in before taking the trip. My MD projects will be to hook up a Baron's Tach and do a carb sync. Lets roll... I can smell the cheesecake already !!!!
  14. The Yamaha FJR has an automatic transmission. The FJR1300AE model features a semi-automatic transmission which Yamaha calls YCC-S (Yamaha Chip Controlled-Shift). This system is a 5-speed sequential manual gearbox with a computer controlled clutch so that no clutch lever use is needed by the rider.
  15. In yesterday's Dahlonega, GA newspaper, The Nugget. "Trooper not indicted in biker's death". A local motorcyclist was recently killed as he returned from a friend's funeral by a GA State Patrol car making a U-turn on Hwy 129 to go after a speeder. The DA said "He was doing his job, he turned on his lights, he made the Uturn, he didn't see the individual".
  16. I wouldn't ride it. Too much power/weight. I'd be dead in a month. That said, the engineering in the engine is top notch. I think this engine in a detuned 100hp version would make a great power plant for a touring machine with comfortable seat, fairing, and large fuel tank. I think the next significant engineering milestone for motorcycle companies that want to stay in business will be to build a 90hp 700pound 2-up touring machine with bags and fairing that gets 60+ miles per gallon of fuel.
  17. I looked up speed bleeder. Here's their web page: http://www.speedbleeder.com/Motorcycle%20Sizes.htm#Yamaha btw, I don't see the older Tour Classics listed. Are their brakes & lines the same? looks like a future MD project for me.
  18. yep, strawberry is good. so is cherry or blueberry, or even plain... I'll have one of each, please !!!!
  19. 'bout time..... There's lots more roads out there with Dairy Queens on them
  20. prayers offered. Hopefully a speedy and complete recovery.
  21. Make sure you're not overfilling the engine with oil.
  22. Thank you for your service to our nation. And for those who made the ultimate sacrifice, may your efforts be remembered and honored forever. Randy R US Army MO National Guard MD National Guard USAR
  23. Here's the new Norton website in Britain. Its a twin rotor Wankel of 588cc racer. Going to be running at Isle of Man with a street legal machine for sale in 2010. http://www.nortonracing.com/race/ I will admit to being intrigued by Wankel engines. Only the Norton logo looks familiar.
  24. area code 515 is Des Moines, Iowa. I need to resist my urge to get a sidecar rig. This looks like a good one...
