  1. The Pirelli web site lists a rear tire available for the model MT66: 150/90 - 15 M/C 74H TL as well as the front 150/80 - 16 71H TL http://www.us.pirelli.com/web/catalog/moto/moto_catalogo_schedaDescription.page MotorcycleSuperstore has the MT66 on sale: rear $91 front $99 (thats unusual, the front is more expensive than the rear???)
  2. I recently saw 2 Royal Stars for sale that were old stock. The seller stated that the machines were special inventory clearance items and would only come with a 2 year Yamaha factory warranty, instead of the normal 5 years.
  3. If the studs and chrome appeal to you, thats the way to go.
  4. Try listening to Al Petteway. Acoustic guitar virtuoso, plays various styles.
  5. I want to ride the route named Push Mountain on the map. Lots of good road and scenary.
  6. Was reading a thread on the HondaST forum and a number of riders there use Loctite Moly Paste 65 lubricant. Available in 8oz cans for $23.45US. https://allfasteners.3dcartstores.com/Lubricants_c_57.html DescriptionVery low friction. Lubricates press fits, protects during break-in and under high static loads up to 750¦F (400¦C). Allows maximum clamping from available torque.
  7. Oil. There's a Honda car compatible part which I might as well stock up on if I'm going to get some moly60. Sorry for confusing the talk on shaft maintenance.
  8. Got to keep those legs strong Lowell. We're looking forward to seeing you in AR in August.
  9. It has been conventional wisdom to not mix radials and bias ply tires. But I have read a couple articles on MC tires where it was stated that it isn't as problematic as once thought and mixing is as ok as mixing brands/styles of tires. Tire manuf frequently state you should run the same type tire front and rear and change them both together. I expect thats how the manufacturers test and certify their tires.
  10. Thanks for the posts. I'm thinking I should do my shaft and splines even though the bike is new and only has 4000miles on it. There have been too many stories about poorly lubed shafts as the bike came from the factory. I'd just as soon not have to take my ride in for warranty work. Off to a Honda auto dealer to get some moly60, and I might as well get a handful of crush washers while I'm there.
  11. http://www.dansmc.com/ the pointer to this site was worth following this thread...
  12. One can use the PAINT utility that comes free with Windows to resize. Use the [image] tab and select Stretch/Skew, then stretch to a different size, like 50/50 to be 50% smaller in both width and height. Then save it. You can then check the size by using [image] and selecting attributes.
  13. Lots of people ride that style of bike 2up accross country. Seat upgrades of various styles available as well as top boxes with passenger backrests. Probably not quite as big and roomy as the Venture though. A good frame mounted fairing with adjustable windshield is what I miss most on my RSTD. What I found impossible to find is a stock bike with a 30inch or less seat height in that style of machine. After several years on a BMW K1100 where I couldn't get both my feet on the ground, that factor became a selection criteria for my new ride.
  14. I think your insurance should pay for a trike or side car rig....
  15. click on User CP on the left of the screen under Main Menu. Then click on Edit profile picture.
  16. Thanks. I opted to have them send me a hard copy which may look better than my printer can produce.
  17. welcome Walt. I used to live in Rockville, have been in Georgia for a while now. I have a half black (Blue over black) 08 RSTD that I just bought 2 months ago. I've been using Mr. Clean autowash, Turtlewax bug & tar remover, Windex (non-ammonia), and Plexus windshield/plastic polish. If you want to meet some of the gang, there's a get together named the Skid-in in West Virginia in 2 weeks that sounds like it will be a good time. Do a search on skidin to read about.
  18. http://www.ignitech.cz/english/aindex.htm makes a generic (general purpose) unit that is user programmable and is used on a list of about 100 different models of motorcycles. The company fits their ignition units with various types of connectors as required by the motorcycle it is to be used with. The company will provide default spark timing based on the characteristics of the engine. Or you can program it with a home computer or laptop to fine tune your engine to your requirements. The units cost about 120Euros or $200 US dollars. They are made in Czech Republic.
  19. How do you grease the shaft on that model?
  20. A poll might be interesting. We have an audience of almost exclusively Venture owners mixed in with a few of us RSTDers and fewer others. The poll might ask: If Yamaha were to introduce in the Fall of 2009 a new Venture in model year 2010 for $20,000US that included the Venture amenities from the current model, with updated electronics and sound, fixed all major known weak points (brakes, etc), and was powered by a version of the FI Vmax engine, would you definitely buy a new one: a) As soon as announced? b) sometime during model year 2010? c) sometime during model year 2011? d) sometime after model year 2011? e) no, just put FI on the current design to meet 2010 emission requirements f) I'm happy with my current ride and won't be buying a new anything
  21. If its in prototype at this time, then I don't think it will be ready for production by the 2010 model year.
  22. If you're leaving MN on the 1st and have to be in St. Louis on the 3rd, that doesn't leave a lot of time for going farther south into the Ozarks and then back north to St. Louis. I'd consider a leisurely ride accross middle Iowa and drop south into Missouri on US 63. If you make it as far as Rolla, MO you'll find restaurants and plenty of motels. I'd then ride down MO 72 to Salem and take MO 32 to US 21 to St Louis. The ride along MO 32 will give you a taste for the Ozarks but you'll be able to stay on schedule. If you have time a spot to linger on the ride to St. Louis near where MO 32 and US 21 come together is Taum Sauk Mountain.
  23. You're lucky to be telling this story. Glad there was a little room for you to squeeze thru.
  24. As a retiree, I'll be sure to ride around the nearest office park tooting my yamahorn.
  25. 2nd Gen. Take a look at the Venture History tab. Welcome to the forum.
