  1. Barend, I'll join you for the ride. After Dillard House I'll cut for home. See you at 10:30am. Randy R
  2. Interesting. Maybe I'll take my windshield completely off and see if the whine changes.
  3. It gives the dealer and Yamaha and excuse not to honor the warranty for a number of major components. It probably would be difficult for Yamaha to refuse warranty on the drivetrain, but some dealers would probably try. I'll save these kinds of mods for after my 5 years is up.
  4. I sent an email to Ignitech specifically asking about the use of their electronics on the first Gen Ventures. Here's their reply: XVZ12 (1983-1985) 1200CC first generation There are 4 pickups and 4 coils on this bike. We did ignition for it. We used 2 units TCI. Now we have prepared solution with one TCIP4 full unit but we haven't tested it yet. XVZ13 (1986-1993) 1300cc first generation There are 1 pickups and 4 coils on this bike. We did ignition for it. XVZ13TF (1999-2009) 1300cc second generation We don't know this bike. You would give us more information. Regards Jan Matous "IGNITECH - Jan Matouš" Ignitech s.r.o. It doesn't appear anyone here is interested in pursuing the aftermarket TCI made by Ignitech in Europe, and I don't have a 1st gen so am merely posting this info since I was aware of the company, and their product for another bike of mine.
  5. Its the computers fault.....
  6. The Tech Tip you posted is for the Vstar 1300 model vtwin, not the Royal Star XVZ13. I've heard this a few times, usually on a very hot day after riding a while and then stopping and starting again.

  8. I have to wonder about the use of aftermarket sintered pads. Why put on pads that stop better when a number of riders have reported brake lock ups and then install mods to make the brakes grab less? confusing?
  9. looking good. I really like the first gens.
  10. Barend, Do you have the sidecar rig set up yet? Sounds like a good ride. I may join you along the way.
  11. Great. Thanks. I'm going to order a pair. I have a lot of problems with sweat getting in my eyes because of wind.
  12. A company in Europe sells an aftermarket TCI that can be had in several versions, either preprogrammed for the Venture or user programmed (they'll give you the Venture program which can be tweaked). http://www.ignitech.cz/english/aindex.htm There is a long list of motorcycles on their website that they have already adapted their programmable TCI to. The reason I'm familiar with this company, is I'm having electrical problems with my 2001 Triumph Tbird, and this aftermarket ignition is being used by several Tbird riders as a low cost replacement for the the factory model. A couple of Tbird riders have bought the programable version and made mods or added inputs not in the origonal factory TCI.
  13. The website for Ignitech says they already have made their pre-programmed TCI work with the Venture. It says Ventura but I'm sure it means Venture, they speak limited English.
  14. Must be one of the new Triumph twins then....
  15. thanks again. That led me to the following web page from Canadian Foreign Affairs which provides a brief view of recent history from the Canadian perspective. http://www.international.gc.ca/history-histoire/world-monde/index.aspx?menu_id=19&menu=R
  16. thanks.
  17. On my bike the whine is worse with the Yamaha semi-synthetic than it was with the Yamaha regular grade oil (dino). Either that or its getting worse, or I'm becoming less tolerant of it. I'm following the thread about shimming the pumpkin to see if there's anything to that. If that solves the problem, or makes it better, then its an easy fix and its probably easy to get someone to make up a batch of pre-cut shims for us. Maybe Yamaha should be forced to offer them installed under warranty?
  18. 2 Canadian Servicemen killed in the UN mission to Vietnam after the war. I have to look this up. I don't remember what happened. I can't find this. Do you have a link?
  19. If a machine is making noise, that noise is usually an indication that parts aren't aligned properly and that wear or vibration or some other mechanical disturbance is happening that can shorten the life of the machine. So its more than a nuisance.
  20. thanks for memories......
  21. Want to ride 200 mph??? then you need a Suzuki Huyabusa, Kawasaki Ninja, or BMW k1200. The BMW can be had with a nice sport touring configuration. These machines are designed to go that fast.
  22. I'm glad to see our Canadian brothers in arms get the recognition they deserve. Thanks for sharing this.
  23. check the fuses first...
  24. Here's a pic of my 2001 Triumph 885cc Thunderbird. http://www.randyrick.us/motorcycles/Triumph/TBirdLeft.jpg
