I view water cooled and fuel injected as good options, emission levels aside. Water cooled engines have a tendency to have longer lives and to have less vibration. Fuel injected engines -should- run smoother, have slightly better fuel efficiency, and require fewer tuneups. Since they should also run cleaner, a FI engine should also last longer. Cleaner combustion means less carbon and acid to pollute the oil, so longer intervals between oil changes may be possible.

OK, you've gotten me curious... Here are the EPA regulations for street motorcycles. http://www.epa.gov/otaq/roadbike.htm What it does say relevant to 2010 is: ------- Table E2006–2—Class III Motorcycle Emission Standards Tier Model year Emission standards (g/km) ------------------- HC + NOX CO Tier 1 2006–2009 ---1.4 ----- 12.0 Tier 2 2010 and later 0.8 ----- 12.0 (2) Compliance with the Class III HC+NOXstandards set forth in §86.410–2006 (a)(2) may be demonstrated using the averaging provisions of this section. To do this you must show that your average emission levels are at or below the applicable standards in §86.410–2006. However there is a maximum cap that a given vehicle can not exceed, even if included in the average from a given MANUFACTURER ----- So. The hydrocarbon and nitrogenoxide emission levels must be lower for 2010 model year machines. Class III motorcycles are those over 280cc displacement. All the models over 280cc can be averaged together (up to a point). If I recall correctly, the last time there was a deadline like this, a number of vehicle manufacturers made a large number of vehicles for the model year prior to the new regulation and continued to sell them the following year. Nowhere do the EPA regulations say 'water cooled' or 'fuel injected' . As has been pointed out, the regs state levels of emissions that the average motorcyle from the manufacturer (of over 10,000 motorcycles sold, over 280cc) must meet. From a practical point of view, what many manufacturers are doing is replacing the carburetors with fuel injected throttle bodies and emissions sensors in a cross-over exhaust (common point sensor). That would also imply a new TCI or computer to control the fuel injection and exhaust sensor. Thats a much simpler approach than designing a true combustion chamber fuel injection system, which would be a more difficult engineering change.

Todd. I'm planning on heading up early in the morning Saturday. See you there. Randy

I'll be there Monday evening, the 3rd. Thanks. -
ALL is a pretty big word. I doubt that very much.

Its about time....

I swapped my inner and outer rear pads with the caliper on the bike on Monday. The book calls for opening the fluid reservoir and removing the diaphram before compressing the pistons to insert the thicker pad. So I opened it up. Was that really necessary to push in the pistons?

Ya know, I always liked the regular Shiners beer, not the dark lager. I'd drink that if I could when in San Antonio. Somebody pick up a 12er of regular Shiners and I'll pay you for it if you bring me 6 of them to share in Arkansas. -
Think about making a stop in memphis to see Beale Street. This thread has me thinking that would be a good thing for me to do when leaving the international. From Memphis its just a jump south to New Orleans and then a swing past Mobile on your way to Vogel.

Good news. !!!

I don't know anything about the unit or if its a good price.

The legal system in this country no longer serves the people of the country. I have little faith the Supreme Court will do the right thing.

Rick, I will be at the International in Arkansas and then at the Dragon/Vogel. In fact I live about 30 minutes from Vogel. Be glad to show you around this area in north Georgia. There are lots of interesting and not so interesting routes between Arkansas and Georgia, I've made the trip many times, as my grandparents lived in Arkansas. Memphis (Beale Street) and Nashville are on one route. RandyR

The Rebel should be a good first bike for your girlfriend. Good find.

We get our annual bath that way....

We have a relay program set up to forward items like these. Ask dragonrider how it works, he recently got a prize that way.

I just got back from Steve's garage where he installed my new grill for me. My 3 month old Tour Deluxe has already taken some stone hits on the radiator. I ordered one in blue and it really goes well with the two-tone blue-black scheme on the motorcycle. It adds a bit of color where it was needed to improve the looks of the bike. Steve was great to chat with for a while, as we waited for the exhaust pipes to cool down enough to do the job safely. It really was a piece of cake to install, Steve designed it to snap in place. A couple of hidden tie-wraps make sure that even a jolt won't loosen the grill. I'll post a pic soon. Thanks Steve.

I don't remember seeing how the trailer winner will be able to acquire their prize. Will it be delivered to them, do they have to drive somewhere to pick it up, will it be at the rally?

I installed V8 2 weeks ago. It seems quirky and I really don't like it as well. However, its supposed to fix some of the security problems in the previous version so I'm here to stay. The speed seems about the same, usually.

I guess I have a Florida motorcycle, bought it near Orlando and rode it home to Georgia up hwy 441. Am planning on going to Biketoberfest this fall. Used to ride to Florida in the 70's on a Triumph.
