  1. Goose, Have you tried the fuel level test using a clear tube again? That seems to be a standard test for other makes of MC also. The maintenance guide for my new Suzuki trail bike says to just use some clear tubing connected to the float bowl drain to see if the fuel level is even with the top of the bowl (at gasket line).
  2. No squeal or lock up with the stock pads still on the front of my 08 RSTD. I did rotate the inner and outer rear pads at 4,000 miles, they had plenty of pad left.
  3. I need to get one of those collapsable rods. I just found a beautiful trout stream about 45 minutes from my house, that I didn't know was there until out exploring on my new 200cc Suzuki on Saturday...
  4. This store is dangerous..... warning stay away... I went there to pick up two of the trailer tires for $90 and spent another $300 on tools that I decided I must have....
  5. I have this tach but with handlebar mounts, which was installed with V7Goose's help at maintenance day. my background led does not flicker. Are you sure its connected to plain 12v dc and not a timing circuit?
  6. Pictures need to be saved to an internet address that everyone can see, like the Venturerider album or Photobucket then linking to those photos in this thread. If you have photos on your computer, you can attach them.
  7. skeeters make great fish callers. Black flies too. You catch them, and put them in a jar. Maybe a 100 or 200. Then lower the jar in the water and the bug buzz calls the fish right to your hook.
  8. Here's the document attached.
  9. I saw those on a RSV recently and assumed it was something the bike's owner made up himself in jest.
  10. hmmm... I used it recently on recommendation of several on this forum, and didn't see that kind of problem.
  11. Bon voyage Jeff. I know you'll stay in touch and tell us what you can.
  12. Hey hey...
  13. I did just what you told me to do.
  14. Most of what you said you would like to see is already here in this Tech Talk section. Just look around or use the Search tab
  15. I could bring my CarbTune to the rally in Arkansas in 10 days.
  16. I got the same email. I'll still order a lesser number of shims so will have a kit and tool here in Georgia. The 25mm shims are also what my Triumph uses.
  17. http://www.northerntool.com/ Seems to have the best prices on trailer tires that I can find. I'm refurbing my trailer and the 990 lb load rating new wheels plus tires are priced better than most stores 880 lb tires only. Check both the online prices and store flyer specials. $44.99 each for the 990 lb 4.80x12 with new wheels, in store special.
  18. A lot of people use the Sears MC jack. It seems to be on sale a couple times each year. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32067&highlight=sears+jack
  19. mend fast Vic...
  20. I bought a Suzuki DR200 today. A very clean 2006 with 1900 miles on it. A local fellow had it on the Atlanta Craig's List. And he gave me a good price on it after I took it for a short spin. Not a lot of power, but ok for putting around in the local woods I expect. I'll go back for it with my trailer in the morning. http://randyrick.us/motorcycles/Suzuki/SuzukiDR200.jpg
  21. I'm glad I saved my Whitworths.....
  22. The web page programmer is probably going to lose his job, in case any one here is looking for a job themselves....
  23. I ordered 2 kits and extra 2.55 and 2.75 which weren't in the kit. I also ordered a set of passing lamps and mounting brackets which I have been wanting but I thought were too expensive... but since I'm getting the shims at such a good price, why not buy something else?? Ps. I received my shim tool from Old Bike Barn, its the correct K&L 35-3462 tool. So thats a good source. Old Bike Barn is in Quebec, so is a good alternate source for our Canadian members. Cost was less than a dollar more than the source V7Goose posted.
  24. While I haven't actually done this, it shouldn't be all that difficult to calibrate a torque wrench as opposed to comparing two torque wrenches to each other. I just checked my socket sets and a 15mm 12point socket seems to closely fit the 1/2inch square socket attachment on a flex handle or torque wrench or ratchet. So. exactly one foot from the center of the attachment on an 18inch flex handle, tie a rope or wire and hang a 25 pound barbell weight. With the 15mm 12 point socket on the torque wrench to be calibrated, attach the flex handle at at right angle. Pick up the torque wrench (running vertically) and with the flex handle perpendicular, lift the 25lb weight off the ground. The torque wrench reading should be (about) 25lbs.
  25. James, Thanks for the lengthy reply and good information for me to consider. I'm leaning towards a bike to ride in the woods, as opposed to riding great distances on the highway. I have read a couple stories of guys doing multi-thousand mile trips on their TW200's, but I doubt I'll get more than 100 miles from home on it. Probably not true dual-sporting. I like the reliability of the Hondas, but their price seems a bit much. Guess one gets what they pay for? I did briefly look at the Kawasaki Sherpa, and saw a couple references to them on other forums as being a very good value. I have a lead on a new-oldstock 2007 XT225 Yama that I'm thinking about. I'll take another look at the Sherpa 250 before I decide. I don't think I want more than a 250cc. Light weight is good, but riding comfort is a consideration. Riding the Forest Service roads is mostly what I envision, with maybe a little trail riding to get to some secluded trout fishing spots. oh yes. I'm a 30inch inseam'r, and I'd prefer to be able to get both my feet on the ground if I have to.
