  1. So who will be the first to log 1 million miles on a Yamaha V4? probably not me....
  2. Good to hear its working so far. A number of Triumph triple owners are now running their TCI's, some straight factory settings, and a couple people have played with reprogramming them successfully. The Hinckley Triumphs don't have a vaccuum advance, but one of the Ignitech buyers has added a vaccuum advance, so I know that can be done if for some reason its wanted/needed.
  3. Nice bike. congrats on the 100%
  4. he must have wanted to make sure he didn't leave any finger prints, I mean bear prints, behind...
  5. Thx Steve. A web search of that bulletin number turns up a prior post you made 2 years ago pointing to: http://www.nopork.com/tsb.asp?action=showrecalls&make=Yamaha&yr=2002&model=XVZ13 If I go there it indicates the tech bulletin number and the text: SUBJECT REGARDING ENING WHINE FROM CLUTCH AREA. *TT But I can't find the details of the tech bulletin. Does anyone have the complete text?
  6. [quote=SilvrT;380359 Now, let me elaborate on information I have devulged from the mechanic that replaced the clutch basket. He told me that this problem goes way back to the mid 90's and was occurring on models other than the RSV. He told me that in those days, they had to take dial gauge readings on the gear lash between the basket gear and the primary gear it meshes with. They would then send those readings to Yamaha and would receive a basket that provided a better gear lash, reducing or eliminating the whine. He told me that it is because neither components are manufactured as a "unit", subsequently, in many cases the gears don't mate 100% correctly, which causes the whine. . I think that we need to find out more about what tolerences this mechanic was measuring and what spec changed when Yamaha provided a new basket. That gives us a goal. Better yet. Yamaha must have issued a Tech Bulletin telling the mechanic what and how to measure. It would be good to get a copy of what Yamaha wrote.
  7. The only good chirp is a dead chirp..... I think Ted Nugent said that...?
  8. I know how to drink Crown Royal. What else do you need done?
  9. I think I'll go for a ride.....
  10. I smell a put-on.....
  11. I'm actually surprised that the noise isn't really an indication of something-somewhere wearing at an elevated rate. Noise is caused by vibration. Vibration causes wear (or vice versa), and metal fatigue, which I would think would lead to component failure. Maybe thats happening, but just takes so long, that its not something the normal owner is going to see because the engine is built so strong.
  12. I want to be able to invoke my warranty if needed. It helps to have a dealer feel some ownership and be on my side if needed. A little over mileage wise probably isn't going to hurt. But the first oil change & gear oil change is where most of the metal particles get flushed from the system. Plus, tightening all the nuts & bolts that are loose...
  13. one possibilty is the needles in the main jets (slider) are a bit worn and you're getting more fuel from one or two carbs vs the others at some openings. different size needles might cause this too, I would expect. I see where v7Goose says there are different jet sizes in the 2nd gen carbs. I will guess thats to make up for some difference in the air flow to certain carbs. So I'd guess air flow issues might cause an unexpected inbalance. Others who have worked on the 1st gens a lot are likely to have better ideas.
  14. have you looked at the needles to see if those on the left might be worn a bit?

  16. Bill, I notice you are using 'energy conserving' oil which is contrary to Yamaha's recommendations. So how does one know whether or not the additives are starting to reduce the friction bonding of one's clutch. It may take a while. It appears that 2nd Gen engines may need new/stronger clutch springs at 50,000 miles anyway, but it takes awhile.
  17. Bike Bandit is in San Diego.....
  18. hey Bob... Dragonslayer, Its time to practice. I should be ready to site in at 40 yards in a couple days. Maybe Thursday or Friday. There's an archery range in a WMA just east of Ellijay. Could practice there then go to Pooles for some BBQ. The Rich Mountain WMA has an archery only section which might be worth checking out while we're there. http://www.n-georgia.com/pdf/rich-mountain-wma.pdf
  19. We call that trolling here. What do you call it up north?

  21. I have one of the kits in the US. There are several. I think there's one in Canada, but am not sure who has it. I'm going to be using the kit I have in a few days, but could send it or a partial kit to you when I'm done. You may get into customs/VAT issues though.
  22. Looks like a good ride and meet....
  23. Glad you're ok Charlie.
  24. It went for $6300, trailer included. It was tempting, but I like my RSTD.
