    I got 42 per odometer during my breakin trip, get less at 70mph+. The speedo is off by about 10% though, so its not as good as you think, if thats what you're using to compute by.

    It seems to vary greatly, maybe more so than the question, how many miles do you get out of a set of tires. Initially I was expecting to have to put in new rear pads at 10,000 miles, based on some comments I read after joining the forum. But it seems that is the low extreme, with others claiming upwards towards 30,000 miles. Checking the pads every oil change and rotating the inner and outer rear pads every oil change or so seems wise. There was a recent article about using a shim with the rear caliper mounting bolts to even out the uneven wear.

    Also, no relationship between the petcock and the fuel gauge sensor. the sensor is just a float. The sensors have gone bad on a few bikes. See tech article by Freebird where he had to derust the tank on his bike using Kreem, it has a picture of the fuel sensor.

    Both the reserve and main run off the left side of the tank. The main is taken off a tube that sticks up a couple inches, the reserve draws at the bottom. There is no tube between the right and left side of the tank, so if the bike is perfectly vertical with no sloshing back and forth, you will go empty with some gas left in the right wing of the tank. There's a picture of the fuel switch floating around the tech section I believe. Also read the numerous articles on the fuel pump. The pumps seem to go bad on a lot of bikes with 40,000 miles or so on them. There was a recent thread where v7Goose described how to listen for the pump ticking to determine if its bad. Apparently a generic low volume 12v fuel pump from Autozone can be used. Fuel filters also clog up. There's a tech article about this too with owners relocating the filter so they can change it more easily.

    The igniter coil tells the computer that already. Or am I missing something... this is a sidebar, I know... btw. there is still the new (0 miles) old stock 2007 Midnight Venture for sale off ebay in Laredo for $11+ with 0 bids. I don't believe someone isn't buying this...

    Welcome Hunter.. I also bought one of the NOS 2008 RSTD's back in April. I love it, its a great machine. Maybe someone else has experience with that fairing. There's another thread going on about fairings, and I don't recall any mention of the one you took off.

    A bicycle pump would work fine. One that has a pressure gauge is good, otherwise check it after each pump or two unitil you get a fell for it. btw. welcome to the neighborhood.
