Jeff, Have you ever ridden a (3rd generation) Triumph Thunderbird? It doesn't have the vtwin vibration but a relatively low seat height and enough hp to pull you and a trailer down the road. I test rode one a couple of years ago and thought it was a good ride. It might be worth looking at. Used ones can be found at a decent price. This bike was off my radar, but I looked at a few of them and I like it. I can't decide whether or not to get a downsized touring bike, or just stick with putting around on my Suzuki Dr200 which is fine for short afternoon rides.

Hey James, I wondered where you disappeared to? We haven't had a Georgia group ride in quite a while. I can sympathize with the arm problems after an accident and am in much the same position. I was able to ride for a couple years after my rt arm surgery, but as time has progressed, I've lost the strength in it and have to give up the heavy bikes. The Venture/RSTD cruise control enabled me to do ok on highway riding for a while there. Don't be a stranger.
