RSTD Exaust tips- 2006
RandyR replied to GOINtoHELL's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Bottom line. They should come with the new RSTD you are buying. -
http://www.davismotorcyclerally.com/ 2010 Davis Rally next September on the 10th, 11th, and 12th, in New Hampton, Iowa! This dovetails with the VR West Rally at Durango CO that is being planned. Might make for a fun trip in 2010

be wary of some user review web sites. Mostly the only people who post are those having problems, those who don't have problems are busy doing other things.

its an 07 model year RSV, not an 08.

I was going to guess that it was RoyalstarJack's 07 that he dropped in the rain not too far from Canton last month. But the ebay ad doesn't say anything about salvage title.

Starting Relay....Redux

Could have been a previous battery, is my guess. Assuming the current sealed battery isn't leaking somewhere... I'd make a solution with some baking soda and spray & wipe everything down in the area good. -

Well, I turned 10,000 miles today on the Blue/Black RSTD I picked up new on April 3rd of this year. I would have to say I'm very happy with it. Its about the same weight as my ex-BMW K1100. I like the seat height, and would call it perfect for me, as is the sitting position. I was able to pick up a glove I dropped while at a stop light today without dismounting, that wasn't something I could have done with the seat height on the BMW. Gas mileage could be a little better, but its not terrible. I like being able to remove the windshield easily for short rides in good weather. The saddle bags are spacious and its easy to strap a big bag on the rear seat or luggage rack if I need to carry more stuff. This is the first bike I've owned with floor boards, I like them. I've got some farkles ready to go on this winter when I feel like a project: chrome bag guards, driving lights, and a small LED bar for the top of the license plate. And I'm back to doing my own maintenance, like I used to do to my Hondas and Triumphs in the 60's and 70's. This site gets a lot of the credit for that. Its been a good year for riding, and I've made a number of new friends thanks to this forum. So let me be the first to wish everyone a happy and healthy and safe Holiday Season. RandyR

I wouldn't call our V4 engine out moded. I would say that the V twins engine is more outmoded. But I'm one of those in the minority who doesn't equate bigger with better or more modern. It really wouldn't take much in the way of improvements to keep this basic engine and package around for a 3rd gen venture.

Sounds like you found what you were looking for. The Vision certainly has the amenities and is supposed to handle very well. Bring it to maintence day next year so we can take a look at your new ride.

I just read the complete article, and don't think there were too many surprises. I am a Tour Deluxe rider though, not a Venture owner. a few comments on the article. The biggest negative ding the Venture got (in my mind) was the front end handling. I note that the Venture was the only bike with a 150 width front tire, all the rest were 130 width front tires. Replacing the stock Bridgestones would have much improved that situation. The writer commented that the V4 was really solid and the only bike with a 5 year warranty and ought to get 50,000 miles before a major overhaul... Everyone here gets a good laugh because we all know these engines will get 150,000 or more. The V-twin guys just aren't used to that kind of reliability, I think. The Venture had the highest compression at 10:1 but was the only bike spec'd to use regular grade gasoline. We did have the lowest gas mileage, but only slightly. But burning regular vs high test, the fuel cost per mile works out about the same. The electonics and gauges got dinged. Easy fix, throw away the cassette deck and stick in a set of gauges and a tach in its place as Ponch has done. The only semi-fix for the top heavyness is to lower things, and that may not suit riders who like to scrape their floorboards in the twisties. But the Venture got a + for biggest top trunk, so ya gets what ya pay for I guess...? Despite the brakes on the Venture being called old-fashioned, I didn't hear them say that they wouldn't stop the bike ok. ABS brings a whole new set of maintenance issues in my experience, so again, ya gets what ya pay for, but I understand the attractiveness of improved braking in the rain. Old fashioned carburators vs FI. yep. But simpler maintenance too and fewer things controlled by a computer.

RSTD Exaust tips- 2006
RandyR replied to GOINtoHELL's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
They are supposed to come with the bike, but not all dealers put them on. One dealer I know about puts them in a saddle bag. On my 2008 they were on the bike. -
I suppose the easy 1st thing to check is the clutch lever itself. make sure its lubed right, and that you don't have big tassles attached to it flying in the wind. There have been a couple members who suspected the worst - new clutch needed - when just making sure the lever was fully disengaged/closed was all they did to fix it.

Good it be the dyna beads? Any chance there was something like Slime in the tire besides the Dynabeads? Or maybe the tire is too far out of balance for the beads to work?

Carlos, May your son continue to get stronger each day and be with you soon.

May this be a day of thanks for everyone here. This is a great group.

Always be thinking about what you would do if the unexpected occurred. Is there a soft grassy median or one with barriers. ditto on the shoulder. How long will it take me to stop on this pavement? Can I swerve left or right if needed? What are the people around me doing? anyone acting in an unsafe manner? Am I giving the other drivers time to react if something goes wrong? and so on.

The factory must be reading this forum.. I just changed my rear tire for the first time on my '08 RSTD with 9k miles. There was much grease oozing out of the hub pins. I just wiped it off the outside .

Tell her we're looking forward to seeing her at Maintenance Day... So are you cooking the turkey this year?

since no one has posted pics of a black and silver 1st gen, I'll post pics of my ex-BMW which was that color scheme. It also had a trunk and side bags which were off when I took these pics. http://randyrick.us/motorcycles/BMW/K1100.htm http://randyrick.us/motorcycles/BMW/K1100right1.JPG

Eat too much, and give thanks for the blessings bestowed upon us. An extra scoop of icecream is ok too.... And remember those who are serving outside the country. God Bless.. :happy65:
