New 2006 RSTD Break - In
RandyR replied to GOINtoHELL's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I probably had the ideal breakin. It was 500 miles from the dealer's location to my home. Mostly a 55 mph 2 lane road thru numerous small towns with slow downs and stop signs so the rpms were varied up and down a bit and there were a couple stretches of 65mph speed limit. I just never grabbed the throttle and twisted it open, easy acceleration up to cruising speed generally, but a a few fast accelerations as dictated by normal traffic flow and passing other vehicles. +1 on changing the rear drive gear oil frequently while the bike is new. I got a LOT of metal particles on the magnet at the end of the drain plug the first 3 times I changed the gear oil. And of course, use a new filter with each oil change. There are several articles here which list the compatible filters and some pros-cons of each. And spend a few rainy days at the computer reading the 2nd Gen and Tour Deluxe tech articles and library. Find the online service manual for the RSV posted here and download it. Register at https://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/myyamaha/login/ and you can download or access service guides for your bike. And don't forget to get your 2010 Star calendar... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=43344&highlight=calendar See you at some of the M&E's -
A good looking son, I'm sure you're proud of both of them. Well. Ft. Leonard Wood can be quite cold in January-February (been there, done that). Is he going to engineer advanced training there? Social life near Ft. Leonard Wood is a bit limited, the local town Waynesville is pretty much a dive. Rolla is 30 miles away, and doesn't have much to offer, while its a college town its a predominately male college with little social life outside the fraternities there (I went to school there). Best bet for a weekend off is Springfield, Mo about 80 miles west.

The Clymer book for Royal Stars 1996-2003 covers the early Tour models and RSVs. It shows up used on ebay frequently. I just checked, it covers both 4 muffler and 2 muffler configurations. I bought it so I could have a hard copy to keep in my tool kit even though there are several areas that wouldbe incomplete for my new Tour Deluxe.

Thanks. I ordered mine. I wonder if the new 1600cc Fuel injected venture will be the December 2010 picture of the month?

Molson secretly bought LoneStar Beer and has actually been bottling their lager in Texas. Its fun to hear the Texans say eh with a southern twang.

Welcome Frank, You'll love it I'm sure. Yep, that V4 is a great engine. There's going to be a Meet & Eat near Jacksonville in the spring for Georgia and Florida riders, plus others in the SE if you can make it. Pics.. got to post some pics when you can.. RandyR

It'll be gone tommorrow I expect, like a bad relative. Unlike the **** some of our friends get that stays for 5 months which you might not be so happy to see. That cold/storm front is supposed to pass thru Georgia Saturday with the same forecast here.

I was just posting the news, since this happened locally and is in an area where many of us ride (near Vogel and Helen). Just wanted to remind everyone to ride safe and be observant, because the unexpected does happen.

yesterday's paper held a followup story. my synopsis of the news story. Following the dismissal of the case by the grand jury on criminal charges, the family of the biker obtained a lawyer and sued the State on civil grounds. The lawyer argued that if you or I had caused this death in this manner, we would be in jail for manslaughter. They won their lawsuit and the State of GA has paid the family an undisclosed settlement. The newspaper article states that GA has a 1 million dollar cap on state paid civil claims.

I've found most of the dealers in this area friendly and with a good stock of motorcycles and parts. Closest is a Motoguzzi/Aprilia dealer; if I were to buy another MC now I would likely buy one of the NOS Guzzis he has some great deals on, also a good selection of accessories, and large selection of used bikes of all makes, also has a snack bar/ice cream shop with a cafe' on premise and a tire store out back where I'll be buying my tires and installation going forward. There are 4 Yamaha dealers within a 40 mile radius so I can find just about anything I want, including Ventures, but they don't discount much around here, I'm in the corridor between Atlanta and the mountains, with lots of bike traffic and business is good despite the prices. The mechanics at the nearest Yamaha dealer Moto400. about 10 miles away seems to have knowledgeable mechanics and a friendly parts dept with a good stock(so far).

adhesive backing and requires a hole drilled in the mounting surface... My experience with adhesive backed MC accessories is that the adhesive lasts about 2-3 years in the Georgia summer heat.

Rode about 100 miles sunday. It was in the upper 60's fahrenheit. I'm in north Georgia, not far from Vogel. We do get several snows, but it usually only stays around for a few days at a time then there will be a few days of near 50F where I'll get out and ride a bit. The downside is I have to drive quite a ways to find good skiing...

I saw it too. Looks like a good bike. The next bike I buy though will need to be one that gets 50 miles per gallon of regular gasoline at 75mph, bags, trunk, frame mounted fairing, adjustable windshield, seat height not to exceed 30 inches, comforable to ride 12 hours a day on either highway or 2 lane twisties. cassette player optional.. I don't need a bike with a 170hp engine, just one that will pass safely and quickly on the US 2 lane roads.
