Oil and gas in exhaust
RandyR replied to thoward's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'm going to go out on a limb and say look at the AIS. Do you have a California model? -
ok...
-
Earl (skydoc_17) has it and is waiting on new gaskets to arrive. So I expect he'll be done with it soon. TartanTerror was next on the list, he said he wanted it in January, I'll see what his schedule is. The shim tool is with the kit. as well as an extractor that Dingy fabricated.

The yellow arrow points to the stepped collar. I don't think this came out of the wheel when I removed mine recently to have a new tire installed. I'll note the Clymer Manual says removal of this collar is optional. I'll wager a guess that the collar was jarred loose when transporting the wheel to the shop that installed the new tire. Look for it in your car's trunk or where ever you transported the wheel, or call the shop that changed the tire.

Merry Christmas Lewis.

ok. Threre are 2 ahead of you, so it may be a while. For those wanting to borrow the shim kit. I think the rules need to be that any shims used get replaced where there are less than 2 or 4 of that size per origonal kit. Your own shims should be moved around to make fit where ever possible. Any extra shims left over, please put the extras in the kit for the next person.

I have a set of the TLCProducts bag liners. Very sturdy and no problems with them.

another possibility is your torque wrench is out of calibration. One more thing to check.

Good thought. My rear brake (shoes?) wasn't seated quite right after removing the rear wheel, and at first I thought I'd messed up the re-installation. But after a short ride and gently applying the brake a few times, it returned to normal.
-
I have to run mine with the choke on for several minutes. Always been that way since 0 miles.
-
No not normal. I used the factory spec of 111 foot pounds when I changed mine last month. The wheel doesn't spin easily though. It has to move the drive shaft and gears in the hub, so there's a lot of stuff to turn. This should probably be in its own new thread...

Welcome to the forum Fred. Yep, these are great bikes. Try to make Maintenance Day at Freebird's next summer so you can meet a lot of the members. re: back brakes. Well, you can lock up the rear wheel if you try hard, so I just think the design isn't quite what it should be. But rotating the pads is a 15 minute job, so is no biggy.

The easy way to check wheel alignment is to lay a yardstick or other long straightedge accross two spots of one side of the wheel/tire and see where it points.
-
Do you know if it does it without the hack?

I just created an account username=venturerider, password=venturerider seems to work ok, I'm downloading now. Got a message about doing 3 uploads, which I ignored and came back to this link and started the download ok.

Dave, I think the numbers you gave for reserve mileage are pretty close. A FAQ on the differences between the RSTD and the RSV would be good. The question comes up frequently. 1. fairing with CB, tape deck, speakers, intercom, and CD on 09 and later in side bag. 2. Top box with enhanced passenger seat w/ armrests and rear stereo speakers and antennas. 3. Pillow driver seat on RSV with different seat mounting bolts 4. Cruise control on/off on dash of RSV vs rt handlebar for RSTD 5. Gas low light on RSV, only flashing F and mileage count on ODO LCD for RSTD 6. 5.3 gallon fuel tank on RSTD vs 6 gallon tank on RSV 7. RSTD has removable windshield, Rear fender painted with removable rear seat and sissy bar. 8. handlebars are different

Could you provide a link to this 2-stroke Atkinson cycle design please? I looked and couldn't find it. I know Oak Ridge is experimenting with Atkinson cycle engines. Thanks RandyR
-
Ditto for my RSTD. The odometer switches to the "F" trip meter which starts flashing, which is what Dave is calling the count up.

This post makes me wonder if the spark advance for the 2nd gens is right? The only good reason to have to use high test gasoline is if one has a higher compression engine than the 2nd gens have. There is little difference in energy content of regular versus premium gasoline. They both contain about 111,400 British Thermal Units of energy per gallon. Octane is defined as a fuel's resistance to knocking. There is no benefit if the octane is higher than what the engine needs. Engine knock occurs when fuel in a combustion chamber ignites before it should. http://www.consumerenergycenter.org/transportation/consumer_tips/regular_vs_premium.html Has anyone with a Dyna3000 played with the high speed spark advance vs gas mileage?

Brake Resevoir Dumb, Dumb, BRAND NEW DUMB!!
RandyR replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
There is a line of colored brake fluid, comes in a couple different colors, so you can tell when a line is flushed with new fluid.. There was a post here about it earlier this year. http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/accessoryDetail.jsp?ID=21 -
NEWBIE Tech Questions
RandyR replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
A couple answers from an RSTD rider 3. The Yamaha specs for our engine says regular gas. Thats what most people use. re: a FAQ. There is a Tech section for the 2nd Gen and a general Tech section and a Tech library. Those are pretty much equivalent to a FAQ
