  4. I have had USAA auto and home insurance for 30 years or more. I discussed insuring my motorcycles with them a number of years ago and was told that USAA recommended using another company. USAA is expanding their customer base, they aren't much different than any other commercial company any more. I should probably shop my home and auto policies for a better rate.

  13. Its one of the early Royal Stars with the V4 engine. But has the small carbs and small air boxes (and no lower wind break) which limit the horsepower as noted. See the history page here on the forum. Several forum members ride them as is. Some mod them to increase the HP. If it were me, I'd probably ride it as is, but I don't ride over normal interstate speeds. Probably a left-over sold new in 2000.

  15. I think what this 'linked to Paypal' is about is that ebay can now automagically debit your paypal account for any ebay fees they feel you owe them. They seem to now offer that as an option to sellers as a safer class of clientelle to ONLY do business with. And it forces buyers to maintain paypal, even if they might not otherwise want to, or may wish to pay ebay fees manually, even if with paypal.

    Triumph

    I took one of the Triumph demo rides of about 15 miles on the Rocket III 2 years ago. I was surprised at how easily it handled considering its shear mass. I'm not sure that it wouldn't make a good tourer for the right person though. I think the right person would be a big fella, bigger than I am. I've seen a posting from a pair of Brits who each bought Rocket IIIs and went coast to coast accross the USA on them, and seemed satisfied with the comfort on a long trip. I decided to buy the Tour Deluxe over the Rocket III. I currently own a 2001 Triumph Thunderbird (water cooled 855cc triple) and have previously owned 3 60/70's vintage Triumph twins.
  17. A 1964 Honda 90cc. The older pushrod version of the 90cc.I put 30,000 miles on it in the 3 years I had it before upgrading to a used 305 Superhawk in 1967.

  19. A 200-250cc class machine will be easier to learn and more forgiving of mistakes. A 350cc and up machine will have a heavier chassis and better top end if you think he would tire of a machine with a 65mph top end too quickly to make it worthwhile. My 200cc Suzuki does everything I want it to do, handles ok on dirt and gravel, and can get me home quickly on the asphalt if needed. I wouldn't want to get over 100 miles from home on it (although when I was a teenager I rode a 90cc Honda 125 miles back and forth to school several times a year). There's an online travellog of a guy who rode a Yamaha TW200 from the mid west all the way to Alaska and back carrying camping and fishing gear.
  20. I bought a Suzuki DR200 last summer. It would be a good choice. Its a 2006. I bought it off Craigs List for $2300 with 2,000 miles on it in near-new condition. It's good on the gravel roads and dirt trails, as well as being able to run on the 55mph local highways if needed for short distances.   24. I bet it would be easy to add an accessory hotdog grill to the firebox...
  25. has anyone tried just turning a new can of (opened) brake fluid upside down on top of the open reservoir? as the level of old fluid goes down, the new fluid would be fed from the can? I think this should work????
