  2. Plus 1 pint in the carb bowls...
  3. Thanks for the update Jean. I think about Earl daily and wish him a speedy recovery. Others will have to comment on back injuries and operations...
  4. I saw a Triumph Rocket III with fairing at a local demo day recently. It looks like the fairing is made by Corbin.
  5. Here's the reply from Avon tech support: The V rated tire is designed for the Yamaha V Max. It has a stickier compound so it gets a bit less mileage and has less of a load rating as that is not as crucial on this bike as it would be on a tour deluxe. V speed is 149 mph vs H rated which is 130 mph. The handling of the tires is the same for agility and easy turn in. At lower speeds load could be quite similar but I don’t have test results for that so I can’t quote you anything. For your bike I would stick with the H rated tire, especially since the front is H rated so you have a match.
  6. She was told to take off everything except her jumper and was patted down. Then she was fingerprinted and photographed. Quote from her statement. Thats not a strip search. btw, if someone is taken into custody, even briefly, for any reason, they are always searched to make sure they aren't carrying a weapon. While I don't like it, it makes sense from a LEO point of view. If she had been in a private vehicle, the vehicle would likely have just been turned around. The fact that she was on a bus that would continue on without her, means she had to disembark within the US customs station.
  7. Just checked a few web sites. SW Moto has the best prices for the Avon Am41. $126.95 shipped for the MT90HB16 #2805012 less $25 rebate thats $102 plus mounting. I'll see if my local shop will come close. They charge $25 for mounting if I bring in the wheel. AVON AM42 150/90HB15 VENOM REAR $142.95 re: H vs V rear. I'll have to see what kind of mileage I get. I didn't realize I was getting the V rated tire until I already had it via a private seller off ebay. If it has better traction, then I'm ok with a lesser tire life. I'll ask Avon what they think.
  8. http://www.avonmoto.com/products/cruiser-touring-custom/venom 71=761lbs , 74=827lbs, 80=992lbs 2848912 150/90B15 80H 2848913 150/90B15 74V H is rated for 130mph V is rated for >149mph I 'think' the V tire has a lower weight rating because its rated at a higher speed. I have a '74V' rated rear tire on my RSTD with 2,000 miles on it. No problems so far. For the front I see: 2807412 150/80-16 71H 2805012 MT90B16 74H (narrower tire) Any of these tires are rated in excess of what even a heavily loaded bike should put on them. btw. here's a $25 per tire rebate for Avon's bought this month.
  9. Good to hear you're mostly on the mend. How's everybody else doing?
  10. So what did you use to refill it George? Just asking since I presume my 10 yr old new ride needs changing. I remember reading the detailed post by Goose about removing all the plugs to get every last drop of old fluid. Being lazy, I was thinking, drain it, then fill with distilled water, run it a bit, then drain again. That should get all the old fluid out of the hidden recesses. I run a dehumidifier in my basement that gives me a gallon of distilled water every day during the summer.
  11. http://www.bikebandit.com/ try this.
  12. Mr. Yamaduck, have fun in The Barbados while your son is working....
  13. Honda ST
  14. Oh Boy.... Jean, thanks for letting us know. Tell Earl that we're praying for a speedy recovery. We miss him, he's been a friend to us.
  15. Some good pics.
  16. If a car/truck driver has trouble seeing a motorcycle, then they must be blind to a child riding a bicycle or chasing a ball, or even crossing a street in a crosswalk...
  17. Just a comment from an observer. All 4 carbs seemed to behave exactly the same way. If it was cracked diaphrams or hoses one would expect some variation in behavior from carb to carb, I would think (not knowing First gens specifically). Is there a common point for all 4 carbs that could cause this?
  18. Thanks for the pix Bobbie... It was good Gumbo..
  19. For those who missed it, we need a detailed cheescake report.... sounds like everyone had fun...
  20. There are some otherwise beautiful twisty roads nearby here in Georgia which are filled with tar snakes. They are double bad when wet.
  21. I suspect there won't be a 2011 Venture. The economy is still bad, and possible higher gasoline prices could cool the demand for big displacement machines of all kinds. If fuel prices look stable and the economy picks up, and bike sales pick up, then maybe in 2012. If seat height isn't kept at 30inches or less, then a lot of buyers will be sized out of the market. The Vmax is too high for me and many others to ride comfortably. I also suspect that many of us who are spoiled by how easy the 2nd gen ventures are to work on, will be dissappointed by the increased difficulty of maintenance of the newer technology.
  22. I wear Bohn armor under regular jeans. They are light weight stretch material with pads.
  23. Ponch. Thanks for doing all this for us. Lots of options it would appear. Well, I'm packing for a three day weekend in Jacksonville for the M&E there. I'll eat some fish & crabs, drink a few brew, and discuss the possibilities with the other VR riders there..
