2011 RSV on Yamaha web site
RandyR replied to DONATALIE's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Lower rpm's does not equal better gas mileage, IF you have to have the throttle more open to get the hp/torque you need. I'd be ok with a new bike that looked more like a first gen, as long as it was as comfortable to ride as a 2nd gen. I expect Yamaha is going to have to do some streamlining to improve fuel efficiency. High on my wish list is an adjustable windshield. -
50 weight is heavier than a water cooled bike needs.

Gary, A prayer has gone out for your mother-in-law. May the circle, be unbroken.

2011 RSV on Yamaha web site

I like the 2 tone blue. They used that in Canada for 2010 on the plain model. I'd buy one if I was in the market for a new bike and had the cash. -
Just saw this today. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Your-Own-Hot-Spot-and-nytimes-362333608.html So for $40/month, unlimited internet accesss via a wifi hotspot with built-in cell network connectivity. From Virgin. Thats what I'm paying for DSL and it isn't very portable. I'm already using voice over internet for my telephone service and just have a pay per usage cell phone for emergencies.

I've had my 08 RSTD forsale for a week here and on Craigslist for $8000 and not even a spam email about it. Maybe I should have put it up forsale in April when I bought the RSV. I was torn about selling it, so it won't bother me to wax it up and put it in the garage for the winter and ride it once a month to keep it fresh. The RSTD is a superior machine to any of the Yamaha Vtwins in my opinion. Maybe the used market will catch on.

Ken, I looked and didn't know what to say. I wish you and your wife freedom from your financial problems and hope you find someone to trade with. These times will pass.

The schematics should have that info. I should have looked first, Dingy's schematics don't have any detail on the connector to the CD unit. I'm not sure what the Yamaha database might have. will look at Partshark... nope, not there either

its already that way in Georgia.

Yes. You did good to grab that one, it would appear. Hopefully the mechanicals are reliable for you.

I'm with you Ruffy. The few things mentioned above would be nice to fix, but not at the expense of the reasonable cost, and ease of maintenance, and overall reliability that we have. The gear whine bothers me sometimes, but other bikes have noises too. If straight cut heavy gears are what allows Yamaha to give us a 5 year warranty, then howl away. If the first gens were still being made, or weren't at least 20 years old, I might have gone that route, as I do like the frame mounted fairing. But the comfort of the 2nd gen is important too. Slightly better gas mileage at highway speeds is what I would most like, and I suspect that better aerodynamics is what is needed to accomplish that.

The local Yamaha dealer has announced they are cutting back their hours and closed Monday-Tuesday. So I guess the business isn't there right now.

Thanks for posting this. There had been a thread at one time about tying the audio units ability to display and select tracks to an mp3 player, but suspect that is more complicated and may require a specific type of mp3 player,

Glad you and the Mrs Squid are mostly ok. These bikes are so comfortable that its easy to let ones attention drift for a moment.

I like the android phones a lot, they are the wave of the future, for sure. I'll have one one day.

I presume you've paid for unlimited edge connections (internet data service) for your Droid?

I also like the 1 cup filter papers and small cone that fits over a mug. I have used a percolator or more recently a french press, but if you're concerned about cholesterol, then unfiltered coffee (which includes french press and metal permanent filters) needs to be avoided as its high(er) in cholesterol. I think the paper filtered coffee tastes better too.

Tinman, I'm 63 and 5'9" and 190lbs and I can handle one. Like you, I've been riding since the 1960's. If you can't get a demo ride at a nearby dealer, let me know. I'll fix you up for a brief ride. I'm in Dahlonega. I have both a Tour Deluxe and a Venture.
