  1. Remember, those staying at Ponderosa Campground are right next to The DAIRY QUEEN, the unofficial gathering spot.
  2. Just missed you Barend. DragonSlayer and I were about 3 miles from Helen Saturday afternoon. But we know what the traffic is like, so didn't go thru the town, went around it on some side roads. Try the wiener schnitzel at Hans next time. Also saw a white RSV with 2-up heading south on GA 60 just south of Suches about 3pm.
  3. Bob, I hope I didn't cause this when I started to push on your trunk while we were turning you around in that gravel on Saturday.
  4. The carb sync screws for the early Royal Stars are not in the same place as the RSV and 2005-on RSTD's. There was another thread just a week or two ago with pictures of how to do the early Royal Stars. I suggest getting one of the Clymer Manuals for the Royal Stars, they are cheap on ebay and other sources.
  5. welcome to ventureRiders. There's a big get together at Oberlin late spring every year, join us next time. (Maintenance Day at Freebird's)
  6. So, I looked for myself. These fit in our automotive style fuse base without modification it would appear, except for height. There are several styles of small breakers (I almost said mini breakers...) here's the link to all their styles. Maybe we have ATC type ? http://www.bussman.com/6/BladeFusesandAccessories.html
  7. 08, the fastest year...
  8. The peak power of 160 hp is given at 7500, with 70 percent of the peak torque of 129 ft.-lb. available from 1500 rpm upward. Thats incredible low end torque. I had a K1100 and said I'd never have another BMW (mostly because of the dealer). But I do like the looks of the K1600. I'm not sure I need or even want a 160hp machine though. Hmm. An adaptive headlight... just like the Tucker automobile.. Wonder if one will be at Daytona Spring Bike week for demo rides? I'll bet thats going to be a long signup line if they do. here's a BMW website dedicated to the new K1600 http://www.tourer-2010-en.com/index/the.future.of.touring
  9. You could probably sell kits of these for 1st and 2nd Gen bikes here on the forum and ebay if they weren't too expensive (not sure what the pain $$ threshold would be).
  10. Not so. The faster you go, the wind resistance on the windshield increases exponentially, and takes more and more HP just to buck the wind. Thats why mileage starts to fall off at 65-70mph. The bike already has overdrive gears in 4th and 5th. Lowering the gearing is more likely to lower your gas mileage in any situation other than a long downhill run, in which case, just drop it into neutral... My Mercury Marquis (big rear wheel drive car) has a small block V8. I was extremely surprised to see it running at 2000 rpm at 70mph on the straightaway highway (26miles per gallon). But if I push the accelerator, the transmission downshifts right away and rpms go up.
  11. Its getting to be about time to get my crossbow sighted in ...
  12. I have an upwind cabin at the Ponderosa by myself if anyone wants to share.
  13. Lower rpm's does not equal better gas mileage, IF you have to have the throttle more open to get the hp/torque you need. I'd be ok with a new bike that looked more like a first gen, as long as it was as comfortable to ride as a 2nd gen. I expect Yamaha is going to have to do some streamlining to improve fuel efficiency. High on my wish list is an adjustable windshield.
  14. 50 weight is heavier than a water cooled bike needs.
  15. Gary, A prayer has gone out for your mother-in-law. May the circle, be unbroken.
  16. I like the 2 tone blue. They used that in Canada for 2010 on the plain model. I'd buy one if I was in the market for a new bike and had the cash.
  17. Just saw this today. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Your-Own-Hot-Spot-and-nytimes-362333608.html So for $40/month, unlimited internet accesss via a wifi hotspot with built-in cell network connectivity. From Virgin. Thats what I'm paying for DSL and it isn't very portable. I'm already using voice over internet for my telephone service and just have a pay per usage cell phone for emergencies.
  18. I've had my 08 RSTD forsale for a week here and on Craigslist for $8000 and not even a spam email about it. Maybe I should have put it up forsale in April when I bought the RSV. I was torn about selling it, so it won't bother me to wax it up and put it in the garage for the winter and ride it once a month to keep it fresh. The RSTD is a superior machine to any of the Yamaha Vtwins in my opinion. Maybe the used market will catch on.
  19. Ken, I looked and didn't know what to say. I wish you and your wife freedom from your financial problems and hope you find someone to trade with. These times will pass.
  20. its already that way in Georgia.
  21. Yes. You did good to grab that one, it would appear. Hopefully the mechanicals are reliable for you.
  22. I'm with you Ruffy. The few things mentioned above would be nice to fix, but not at the expense of the reasonable cost, and ease of maintenance, and overall reliability that we have. The gear whine bothers me sometimes, but other bikes have noises too. If straight cut heavy gears are what allows Yamaha to give us a 5 year warranty, then howl away. If the first gens were still being made, or weren't at least 20 years old, I might have gone that route, as I do like the frame mounted fairing. But the comfort of the 2nd gen is important too. Slightly better gas mileage at highway speeds is what I would most like, and I suspect that better aerodynamics is what is needed to accomplish that.
  23. I can't believe I'm going to miss the pig roast. Y'all have fun.
  24. Maybe my favorite bike of all time. I had a 79
  25. sorry to hear the news. John is a great guy.
