  1. I was a duty manager at HP. One of our support engineers was on the phone with Cantor Fitzgerald when the plane hit their tower. He called me and wanted me to do something about it. I brought up the news on CNN. My first thought was, this is war. All I could do was pray.
  2. good one.
  3. http://venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=50187&d=1284251504 Now that is a serious desert...
  4. amen.
  5. If you were all on 1st gens, you could make to Rome, GA for the annual M&E there at 11am.
  6. I'm surprised that one of the bright machinists on this forum hasn't come up with an adapter for some commonly available shock to fit onto the 2nd gens.
  7. Good to hear it was an easy to find fix.
  8. ugly mess..... again, glad you're ok
  9. Many of the generic drugs that I take from sources like Walmart are from non-US manufacturers.
  10. I will admit to not being too bright to even think about pushing on the trunk of any motorcycle.
  11. Yep. Apparently all the vets are now required to take business classes before they can graduate and get their papers. The vet hospital in town was owned by a lady vet when I moved here 20 years ago. She did excellant work, and saved one of my dogs life twice. I trusted her implicitly. Her prices were very reasonable. She decided to retire 10 years ago and put the business up forsale. It was bought by a young couple of vets just out of school. Over the next year, prices doubled, and have since doubled again on many things.
  12. Thanks, You just saved me a $100 I just ordered a years supply of heartworm preventative for my 2 dogs. I used to buy it at the local Farmers Coop, but they won't sell it anymore over the counter.
  13. shhh !! don't let them all in on our secret.
  14. beautiful, so, should I bring my skis, just in case?
  15. Remember, those staying at Ponderosa Campground are right next to The DAIRY QUEEN, the unofficial gathering spot.
  16. Just missed you Barend. DragonSlayer and I were about 3 miles from Helen Saturday afternoon. But we know what the traffic is like, so didn't go thru the town, went around it on some side roads. Try the wiener schnitzel at Hans next time. Also saw a white RSV with 2-up heading south on GA 60 just south of Suches about 3pm.
  17. Bob, I hope I didn't cause this when I started to push on your trunk while we were turning you around in that gravel on Saturday.
  18. The carb sync screws for the early Royal Stars are not in the same place as the RSV and 2005-on RSTD's. There was another thread just a week or two ago with pictures of how to do the early Royal Stars. I suggest getting one of the Clymer Manuals for the Royal Stars, they are cheap on ebay and other sources.
  19. welcome to ventureRiders. There's a big get together at Oberlin late spring every year, join us next time. (Maintenance Day at Freebird's)
  20. So, I looked for myself. These fit in our automotive style fuse base without modification it would appear, except for height. There are several styles of small breakers (I almost said mini breakers...) here's the link to all their styles. Maybe we have ATC type ? http://www.bussman.com/6/BladeFusesandAccessories.html
  21. 08, the fastest year...
  22. The peak power of 160 hp is given at 7500, with 70 percent of the peak torque of 129 ft.-lb. available from 1500 rpm upward. Thats incredible low end torque. I had a K1100 and said I'd never have another BMW (mostly because of the dealer). But I do like the looks of the K1600. I'm not sure I need or even want a 160hp machine though. Hmm. An adaptive headlight... just like the Tucker automobile.. Wonder if one will be at Daytona Spring Bike week for demo rides? I'll bet thats going to be a long signup line if they do. here's a BMW website dedicated to the new K1600 http://www.tourer-2010-en.com/index/the.future.of.touring
  23. You could probably sell kits of these for 1st and 2nd Gen bikes here on the forum and ebay if they weren't too expensive (not sure what the pain $$ threshold would be).
  24. Not so. The faster you go, the wind resistance on the windshield increases exponentially, and takes more and more HP just to buck the wind. Thats why mileage starts to fall off at 65-70mph. The bike already has overdrive gears in 4th and 5th. Lowering the gearing is more likely to lower your gas mileage in any situation other than a long downhill run, in which case, just drop it into neutral... My Mercury Marquis (big rear wheel drive car) has a small block V8. I was extremely surprised to see it running at 2000 rpm at 70mph on the straightaway highway (26miles per gallon). But if I push the accelerator, the transmission downshifts right away and rpms go up.
  25. Its getting to be about time to get my crossbow sighted in ...
