Interesting. I had to look up info about the Brave browser. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brave_(web_browser) The concept of a browser with a built in ad blocker is interesting. I realize that a lot of internet content I look at has to be paid for by someone. I'm very dissapointed in the volume of garbage that has flooded the internet, and appears to be poisoning peoples' minds and actions. I do use an ad blocker. I do make a contribution to wikipedia every year.

Sure, why not?

I wonder if the heads on that Toyota where designed by Yamaha? Several of the early Toyota engines had heads by Yamaha. If I recall correctly.

I'm not sure that's totally correct. I seem to recall reading a lengthy technical article that included specific information about some of the oil molecules breaking down when subjected to mechanical stress. Modern synthetic oils containing molecules less prone to that happening. That said, I know over the road diesels get -lots- of miles between oil changes.

Did he offer you some slightly stale rum balls?

When in doubt, I scratch my dog's ears, and we're all happy.

Yes it happened to me. I just walked away from a BMW k1100 after a dealer used up all the insurance for a repair the insurance company negotiated to bring the bike to original condition. But then only fixed/repaired 50% of the items and the engine was massively leaking oil. Rightly or wrongly, I decided that if I sued, I would gain very little and the only winner would be a lawyer vacuuming up my money. I should have just taken the offered insurance buy-out and walked away in the beginning. The markup on BMW MC parts and service is quite high. Yamaha is almost as bad. Take a look on Partsshark for the list price of similar items on a Venture. A gas tank, a few pieces of chrome and plastic will almost cost more to be replaced by a dealer than buying a new bike.

The 45-70 is a punishing cartridge. I say that having owned and shot an old US Govt Trapdoor for several years.

I will admit to being skeptical about the dealer getting the bike and it being ready for pickup the same day. Unless it had been prepped by the previous dealer who shipped it. Still, I would want the bike to get a total checkout after being shipped which takes time, and it would be the first time the 'local' mechanic would have one.

+plus for the Carbtune. I bought one after my first Maintenance Day at Don's. Its been used dozens of times since then with success. Funny, but I was just thinking about how much easier it was to tune the carbs on a twin cylinder MC (or any MC) with individual exhaust pipes - just by feeling the exhaust with my hand and getting things balanced. Don't laugh - I did that for many years.

Am I missing something? Amazon wants to charge me $2.99 to watch this video or otherwise signs me up for Amazon Prime, for which I believe there is a monetary charge. If I had just clicked [watch video] without paying attention to the fine print, my credit card would have been charged and I would have been signed up for a recurring monthly charge.

Thanks for sharing your trip with us. Its great that the new Venture really is a tourer of epic proportions.

The laws are not consistent from state to state, and even within the same state from local jurisdiction (city/county) to the next jurisdiction. I say this to let you know that there is no uniform answer which applies accross the USA. But, I'm with Don in his response. I seldom carry, even though I feel competent to do so.

Make sure to point out that this club's idea of touring usually means, until the next icecream shop?

I've been shooting a bow since I was about 8 years old. Never shot competitively. My family moved to Grayling, Michigan the original home of Bear Archery. We moved to Grayling because a friend of my step father's lived there who was a conservation officer. The friend hunted with Fred Bear occasionally. And my mother worked in the accounting dept of Bear Archery. I didn't shoot much archery while a teenager, but after Army and college, moved to Maryland and I took up archery again for deer hunting. If it wasn't hunting season, I usually shot every weekend for several hours with a Bear Whitetail hunter compound (low cost) bow. When I switched jobs, there was an indoor archery range in an old bowling alley that I used to stop at a couple times a week on my way home. I bow hunted (new Bear compound bow) and practiced for several years after moving to GA, but stopped after injuring my right arm. I have a compound crossbow now, and have practiced with it once in a while, but haven't been hunting with it yet.

9,000 miles is barely broken in. Re: leaky shock. I wouldn't worry about that for another 30,000 miles, and imo is more likely to happen if you heavily loaded, pulling trailer, etc etc. The stock seat could be more comfortable, but is more comfortable than many other stock seats I've sat on.

I enjoy shooting, but in general am leery of used guns with high fps magnum cartridges because of their short barrel/throat life. That said, thats a beautiful gun with the best of everything.

Single Track and old dudes. anyone over 50 still doing this?
RandyR replied to CaseyJ955's topic in Watering Hole
I picked up a Suzuki DR200 a few years ago for riding the Natl Forest roads nearby. I've gotten into a few spots where the road ended and a mule trail continued, and I continued on, in a few cases riding a 0 trail. Nothing like riding in the Rockies though. And the DR200 is about as fast as I feel like I want to go. Was able to ride from my house to Vogel Rally a few years ago with only a mile or two on paved road. No prize for that though? -
Ahem... That looks like one might find an emergency replacement tire at the John Deere dealer? Would we still call that the darkside? or what?

Adventures on the road: Cherry and I are gone fishing.

3 days of fishing away from the internet sounds like a good thing. There's nothing better than fresh fish cooked over an open fire. -
Good luck Jack. There seems to be a number of members here who have gone thru this kind of medical procedure and now are much healthier for it. I know that staying positive can be hard, so keep talking to us. The only bells tolling are the VR bells.
