  1. Merry Christmas to you and your Rick
  2. Many have hit very good points here Brian. If the battery is over 4 years old or you dont know when it was replace last, and you plan on keeping the bike, buy a new battery. It will take that out of the equation and you wont have to worry about it. 1st thing I would do is clean all the battery connections, positive to solenoid, solenoid to starter, negative to engine ground. Make sure they are clean enough to eat off and tight. Upgrading the fuse block is another very good idea, and should absolutely be done if your going to keep the bike or use it regularly. The slow starts when hot is very common, the original battery cables are too small, and the original starter is only a 2 brush. A cable upgrade to 4 gauge is what I have done in the past and either a Vmax or a 2nd gen starter is a direct bolt on replacement and is a 4 brush, you wont have a starting problem with one of them installed. My number is in my profile if you want to chat.
  3. ...but your still here with us brother, and thats a great Christmas gift

Nice looking El Camino '69 or '70 there abouts? The RSV is sharp too :-)
  5. Santa's workshop seems awfully familiar to me
  6. VERY highly unlikely....nice try you pot stirrer
  7. All the best to your son Bob, I know what a drag it is to bounce down the median. Glad to hear that it's not a life threatening deal.
  8. I had this issue on Zipcodes bike when I had it while he was in Joplin Missouri with FEMA. It actually turned out to be the adjusting screw on the brake lever. It had worn into the push plunger of the master cylinder. I disassembled the brake lever and cleaned all the surfaces off. Then filed the adjustment screw smooth again as well as the mating spot on the plunger. Lubed all mating surfaces up again and reinstalled and it worked like a charm....
  9. She'll do just fine James, we'll keep y'all in our thoughts.
  10. Whats that white stuff on the ground!?
  11. I rode to work last week, it was 25 degrees when I left the house...that will definitely perk you up
  12. :banana:Happy Birthday Kelly!!!
  13. Thats where it goes, it doesn't touch the actual rim
  14. Dont beat yourself up Karl, life can and will do that all by itself. Your doing what you have to do and Abby is in a far better place than where she was. I can understand where your coming from, having lost everything we worked for, albeit not to the extent your at. It's hard, at times, to listen to the cliche statements of hang in there or it will get better, when your living it and it doesn't seem to ease up. Never loose hope, not to be preachy, but the spirit upstairs has a plan and it is working like it is planned to. My heart aches for you my friend, I know you and your not a person to be lazy. Life has just thrown you some very hard curve balls and your down on your luck a bit....it will get better, just remember that you have Abby, and after all, she is the best gift you can have....All the best bro.
  15. Thanks again for all the info fellas
  16. Welcome back to the asylum my friend....we've missed you
  17. It's not bad, but the house hasn't been lived in for a couple of years and it became easy pickins for the undesirables. The folks were buying it from said they would split the cost so who am I to argue with that Believe me, anyone coming into our house unannounced, will meet the business end of several fine manufactured firearm companies products
  18. I just installed a PIAA xtreme white anti vibration bulb in my '86 tonight when I got home from work. I ordered it from Amazon, the twin pack was $65 shipped to my door. I installed it as soon as I saw it in the house and went for a short ride HUGE difference, got flashed on lowbeam 2 times in 5 minutes and I know it's aimed right. Changed it out in less than 5 minutes, can't get much cheaper or easier than that....
  19. I noticed the flyer paper you have inserted says it's a Brown and Sharpe, those are still some of the best precision machinist tools you can buy.
  20. Thanks Fellas, I appreciate all the input and I'm looking at a couple of options. It's not that I'm really worried, but meth is everywhere and they have broke into this house before to steal copper wire. I know that a loud alarm will scare off 99% of would be burglars, I just want a little peace of mind...Thanks again for all the responses
  21. All the best to you Robin, way better to catch it early before serious damage could happen
  22. Not a bad idea...especially when it works and is cheap
  23. Bill, Welcome to the group, 65K is nothing for a maintained Venture. As mentioned 200K is not uncommon with no major work. I sold an '89 2 years ago with 110K that we rode up to Freebirds Maintenance Day in Oberlin Ohio (outside Cleveland) from Houston Texas with no problems. That same bike would eat many muscle cars should I have wanted it to. If the price is right and it is in good shape, dont be worried about the 65K on the clock....
  24. That is definitely a drag, I hope that his recovery is as swift as possible.
