Bernie, I wouldn't look any smaller than a 750cc for the youngest, he will out grow a 650 VERY fast and there's no use having to look for another bike so soon. The Suzuki Volusia is an 800cc bike that is very nice, the 750 Shadows are nice bikes too and very light and maneuverable. A cruiser sounds like it would be a good choice due to his size, as it would be lower to the ground. Enjoy having your boys with you on the rides, I am patiently awaiting the day I get to ride with my Dad

bike dies, dead battery

Check all the connections, especially where the ground is attached to the frame. These bikes are very finicky with the electrical systems if they are dirty. -
Harbor Freight tag along trailer question

Best bet is to pull your bearing cap off and take it with you to measure and match it. This way you'll absolutely know it's right. -

JP, Where abouts in Houston are you? There are quite a few of us here in the Houston area. I live Just outside of Cleveland, East of Cut and Shoot off 105. Your more than welcome to come out to my place and we can run through your bike and get it where you want it to be. I have plenty of space and a 1200 sq ft garage. My cell # is in my profile, give a call and we'll see what we can make happen for you.- 40 replies

Vince, I installed a chain on one of the Michigan crews bike who rode with us. It was a VLX 600, I dont recall what chain mfgr I used, but I went with a sealed o ring chain. It was a little more money, but worth it not to have as much maintenance. The $300 quoted may not be too far out of line as a good quality chain can run you over $100, and it's every bit of a solid hour or better for the install as you have to completely remove the rear wheel assembly. Not that you dont know, but make sure that you true the wheel assembly to the bike when reinstalling it...

My intentions were good on trying to make it, but moving one of the guys from work turned out to be an all day plus deal. I didn't leave them until about 7:30 last night, and then met Monkey Boy and Lonna for supper in Cleveland. Monkey Boy was kicking himself as he thought it was next weekend Good to see you had a good turnout and hopefully the next get together will not be so hectic for me

How did the drawers feel when they slid out from the box? I know your not going to get great quality with a $300 box, but did they feel solid when they slide?

Rich, One of our Texas members, oldschool, has had Ace High do some leather goods on his '03 RSV. He was extremely happy and the workmanship was great. I saw the tank bib they made and it really looked good, I dont think you'll have any worries with them. -
Harbor Freight tag along trailer question
Squidley replied to midnightrider1300's topic in Trailer Talk
Donnie, Something else I install on every trailer I own is bearing buddies. The beauty of them is before I get ready to head out on a long trip, or atleast once a year I jack each tire off the ground and spin it as I pump grease into the bearing buddy. When I get a little grease out of the weeping hole I know that my bearings are fully packed -
BigDawg, There are lots of variables that go into tire wear, personal riding habits, area in which you live, air pressure that you keep the tires at are just a few. It appears that you still have a reasonable amount of tread in the center as it doesn't look slick to me. Another thing too is if you do a lot of slab or strait away riding it will obviously wear the center of the tire faster, this is where the tire pressures come into play. I'll be quite honest with you, if I can get 12K out of a MC tire I am pretty happy. I know you hear of folks getting 18 to 20K out of a rear tire, and not saying that I am doubting the folks that make this claim, but I have NEVER gotten close to that on any MC tire I have owned, but thats just me. Biggest thing is to religiously check your tire pressures, on the rear I keep them within 2 lbs of max sidewall pressure, the front I keep 4 to 5 lbs under max. E3's are decent tires, and many folks here like them. Some get great results others not so much. In my mind your about 3500 miles away from what I expect out of a rear tire. If at 10K the tire is completely shot, then I might get a little cranked up....
