1st gen throttle cable replacement
Squidley replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Dave, I will mention, from some headaches, that you want to be able to get at everything. For me it's easier to pull the front fairing as the junction point is buried behind the left side inner fairing panel. There might be a way to sneak your hands in there, but I want all the room I can get to play with something like that. If your bike has the factory cruise control, pay very close attention to how it all comes apart. Take your time and if you get frustrated, walk away from it for a while. If you run into any issues and need some help, my number is in my profile. -
It was in Houston Texas with a bad top end!!!, what do I win!?

which would you choose,I need a new seat

Mike.....They are NOT cheap, they are custom fitted for your height and weight. The website has it in the $600 range for leather, but arguably could be the last seat you ever buy... http://www.day-long.com/seat_prices.html -

I have removed all the duct work associated with the vents on the dash. Surprisingly you will get reasonable air flow through them without all the duct. You might want to try that 1st before you try to make cubby holes out of them...

You dont know how hard it was for me to bite my tongue

If you wonder why that is Donnie, I'll give you a insight. The rear brake calipers on the RSV and TD's are constantly dragging. This is why you'll hear some of the members talking about flipping their rear pads around, the inside pad is always dragging on the rotor as the caliper doesn't completely pull the pistons back in on the rear. Usually 2 rear sets to 1 front sets from all the ones I have worked on.

If I were going to buy one of the 2 you posted Larry, it would be the Bolton just for the fact that it has a 3/4 hp motor vice a 1/2 hp on the Grizzly. I agree with looking for a decent used one, anything built these days are cheap and just dont seem to hold up....

If money is not an option, I would try the Russel Day Long. Every person I have talked to that have used one love them, Corbin is a crap shoot, some love them, some dont. -
If you have a vacuum bleeder, you can suck it dry, take a lint free cloth and clean the bowl out and refill it. Then go to the bleed port and suck the clean brake fluid through and whala, your all good to go......but a turkey baster with a small tip would work.

Personally I would go the route of rebuilding the master and replacing the slave cylinders. I actually did that earlier this year on the '86 I own, as well as a complete clutch rebuild with new friction discs and steel plates. It's great piece of mind knowing that it's taken care of and you wont have to worry about it again.

My bet would be possibly the master cylinder if you completely bled the system last year. If your going to keep the bike, and you dont want to screw with it again. Buy a new clutch slave cylinder and rebuild the master cylinder and your problems, will more than likely, will be gone for many years....

Happy Fathers Day....GRANDPA!!!

The G2's are somewhat notorious for loosing the coils to the rear cylinders. I remember in '07 in Ft. Collins at the International Rally Stardbog lost one of his coils and he still rode it around for the rally till the replacement coil came in. I still laugh thinking about when his bike would backfire going through the canyons

It was great having you here JP, I'm glad the bike left better than it arrived. We'll get together again and work on some of the other issues, enjoy riding it- 40 replies

Chris, Some things to think about here... Have you changed out the plug caps, wires and plugs recently, or at all since you have owned the bike? Sometimes the TCI's will be intermittent, there are fixes for the circuit board in the TCI. If you haven't done a tune up since you owned the bike, I would absolutely put one on it. Thats the very 1st thing I do unless I see a receipt that it had been done very recently to me purchasing it. This will be one less thing to have to worry about in troubleshooting a spark issue...
