Ross, I purchased my parts and rebuild kits from Yamaha Sports Plaza http://www.ysppart.com/ Their prices are very competitive and I have had great customer service from them. Pioneer in NY http://www.pioneermotorsport.com/default.asp also do very good by us, they actually had a display stand at Freebirds 2011 MD in Ohio.

Dont laugh, I have worked with one of my best friends who is a master plumber and we HAVE tore floors out because it was pretty much the only way to get at a problem.

Hal, Take it to the dealer! it has a 5 year warranty so dont let them skirt their responsibility. It's a known issue and this way you have a track record of it. If you still have it when it goes out of warranty, then we'll put an aftermarket in it. Like Eck mentioned, listen for the clicking when you 1st turn the key on. If you dont hear it, pull the left side cover off and tap on the fuel pump with a screwdriver handle and see if it starts clicking. If it does then your pump is going out. If you want some help with it give me a shout, I'll be more than happy to help you with it.

Thats what we did to the HF I bought, took it to Doodles and drilled/anchored it to the garage floor. If he needs to move it we can unbolt it and move it out of the way. Been bolted in the floor about 2 years now and the Houston crew has probably changed out 40 tires on that little machine

Harleys are great machines, I have one and I like the nostalgia of it. The newer ones have a lot going for them, they beat out an RSV in many areas. I still love the RSV, no bike I have ever rode fit's me better, but I have a few gripes about it. Thats a great looking machine that I'm sure you'll get much enjoyment out of. I'm glad to hear you'll stick around, I hope you'll try to visit some of us at the rally's from time to time. The H/D's are always welcome wherever we go

Not that you folks in NC weren't good to them, but we'll gladly take them here in Texas and treat them good

The clunking, to an extent, is somewhat normal. All my RSV's have done it, even the new '08 I had with 1 mile on it when I bought it. As long as your not hearing any additional noises from the gearbox (less the whine of the clutch basket if yours is so inclined) you'll be fine.

I agree with Thom on the fuel pressure matter. If you have more pressure pushing against the float needles (they are rated for a specific psi) then they will open and you will bypass them. Kirby has very valid points also, your '98 carbs should be similar to the 2nd gen carbs, only smaller. The floats have a measurement that they are set at, and that might not be right. Unfortunately if your not comfortable taking them off yourself, finding a reputable mechanic is your only recourse. I wish I was closer to you as we could go through them in a day.

Congratulations to both of you, not a small accomplishment either. I wish you both many more years together

Bill, The 1 1/2 times the width is correct, even a little longer is not going to hurt. Now you mention about this being a dog type kennel. Are you actually going to bring dog(s) in this trailer? The 1st thing that comes to mind is if your going to haul dogs, and the dogs are allowed to move freely through out this enclosure. If this is the case, then you need to rethink the geometry of the trailer, as a moving animal in it will throw off tongue weight dramatically. Now if your not hauling an animal in it, then there's no real issue. Make sure the box's center point is slightly fwd of the axle for a bit better weight in the front. You can actually narrow the frame to the width on the box and give it custom look. Here's a few pics of one I did somewhat to the dimensions of the box you bought.

Here it is again, June 21st, 15 years ago we took the plunge and decided it was time to have the same last name. Lots of drama and hard times, but lots of great memories. It isn't perfect, but I'll take it, and I'm glad that were still proving some folks wrong. Happy Anniversary I Love You Kiddo!

I agree with Jeff here, if your battery is a little bid heading south it will screw your charging capacity all up. Charge the battery up to full and have it load tested, thats the only way your going to know if the battery is good. Check the 3 wires coming from the stator into the wiring harness. Many times the plugs will get some dirt in them and start to corrode and get hot, this will prematurely kill the stator over time. Many members will remove that plug and solder the wires together to have optimal charging capacity.
