Mike, For the most part, the majority of the ventures, both 1st and 2nd gens that I personally have owned or helped work on, didn't need valve adjustments before 50K miles (thats our K not yours) I know others may come on here and say "I had to do mine at 30K and 4 were out of spec" That may be true, but in my experiences with this bike, anything before 60K is somewhat a waste of time in my opinion. Now if you had leaky valve covers, I would say look at them, but just to open it up to "Check" them, I wouldn't, and dont. It is a very time consuming job and you have to rip a lot off the bike to get at them freely....

Brian, Your here to tell the story, and really, thats all that matters. I totalled out a '99 with my wife on the back, not a good time, but we survived. I wish you all the best in a speedy recovery, dont push it, our bodies once were past 40 do not like to be pushed to heal fast. Your question on your bike about the value, as beautiful as it was, your probably only looking at $4200. I dont say that with any malice, but any 1st gen venture, in this day and age isn't worth more than $4500 in a practical way. They are worth much more to us, but market wise, not so much I'm afraid. I hope that didn't ruffly you up, it was just what I honestly believe it's probably worth....

I have rode a few hundred miles, in front of, beside and behind that bike. It's a very nice machine and the ghost flames are very trick. Wish I had the money to get it, Lonna loves RED!

fast idle on a hot engine.

Phil, Have you done a carb sync on the bike since you have had it? If you haven't done it already, replace the vac line from #2 Cylinder to the boost sensor, and replace the other 3 caps on the vac ports in the manifold boots. This way your not 2nd guessing those components being good or not. -
Dont they have a set that is set up for the RSV?

lockable large top box for '97 Royal star
Squidley replied to Lowellrider's topic in Bike Accessories
I have no experience with that trunk, but it looks like it's got lots of room. If you like it, I would jump on that, for under $200 thats a steal.- 6 replies

Where to put a Shindengen R/R
Squidley replied to camos's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I bought the charging kit from Earl and I installed that R/R back in the original spot by the swingarm. I'll try to get some pics of it and post them up. -
Could it be the synthetic oil???

Holy Cow! You had me believing that you knew what you were talking about there. I never knew you had a double jointed tongue Walter -
Just some info about Gasoline Boiling Point "The boiling point of gasoline varies. At atmospheric pressure, it's between 100 and 400 oF. A primary cause of this variance is the various additives in the gasoline from different refiners designed to meet different octane requirements." If you haven't I would drain the tank and try some fresh gas in it. I personally have never heard of gas boiling in a tank or a carburetor. Thats not to say it doesn't happen, but it seems very unlikely to me that this would cause all your troubles. I'd still wager that it's in either the floats, needles or the seats. That is what controls how much gas gets into the bowls.....

Degraded Charging system effect Fuel Milage?
Squidley replied to etcswjoe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That doesn't really surprise me, if there isn't enough juice to fill all the power needs of the computer, coils and such, I could see the bike working harder which means more fuel consumption. Kind of a nice gift to get back isn't it -
Could it be the synthetic oil???
Squidley replied to BigLenny's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Maybe....I haven't heard of anyone trying to get it replaced under warranty, but you could be the 1st one If it's not, for less than $100 and an hours time (I can do one in 20 minutes while talking) you can have a top notch clutch. Hell you dont even have to drain the oil as it can be done on the sidestand. -

Squidley replied to BigLenny's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I highly doubt that it's the oil, I would like to think that Yamaha knows the majority if not all of the bikes they make are wet clutches. It sounds like you have a weak clutch spring, very common in the G2's. Skydoc 17 makes a complete kit with a heavier spring and a full friction disc replacement. I have done dozens of the upgrades and they work great, here's a link to his classified ad... http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=3763&title=second-genheavy-duty-clutch-spring-upgrade-kit-21&cat=22 -

Keith, If you get a little time and want to come up to the country, swing by the new place and we'll see how well they synced your carbs. -
Thats not PEX Froggie, it sounds like polybutylene that they put in mobile homes. There was/is a lawsuit going on with that stuff. You can't buy it as it has been banned for use. Your only other choices are Copper, Pex or PVC to replumb with. I know some plumbers who love the Pex on new construction, but it will somewhat suck to try and retrofit the entire house with it all at once.
