Do yourself a favor and run a dedicated powerline from the battery to the relay. #1 It will give the passing lights all the power they want and they will be as bright as they were designed to be. #2 You wont have to do any splicing into factory wiring, I hate doing that as it can turn into trouble later down the road. I have run driving lights without switches on the last 3 bikes I owned as I want them on at all times. Good luck with the install

Mark, I personally haven't pulled a camper, but there are a few here that have. Some of the set ups are pretty sweet, even set up with a hole for an AC, which for me would be a must have when riding in the summer. I can't "Tent" camp anymore, my back wont take it, but some of the campers have queen sized beds and that would be nice. My biggest caution on pulling a camper (and folks will argue with me on this) is having a set of brakes on the trailer. I've heard it all, and I have several friends that pull without brakes, but in that oh chit moment when you have to stop quick, you really will wish you had brakes on that trailer. I have built many trailers, and pulled them for well over 30K miles behind various Ventures. If you really think your going to get into it, and you can afford it, get a camper. If your not sure and want to tent it, buy a trailer.....

Your a good man brother, I still look back at all the folks I have met here, and smile at all the friendships I have. I am a very rich man with all the excellent quality folks I am able to call "Friends" here You know, were this much closer to LV....I really should see about getting over that way and seeing you and the missus

Jack, The headlight assembly on your '86 is a rigid mount, meaning that the casing doesn't move, the reflector inside the housing is what is adjusted. There is no right to left adjustment, the housing is centered in the fairing. Sometimes it's a bit of a bear to get the pegs in the bottom and tweak the upper bolt ears behind the fairing and into place. You have to push with a decent amount of force to seat the top posts as the spring inside the reflector is pushing against you. Now that this is clear as mud, do you have another question

Rodney, Have you taken the rear master cylinder and reservoir apart? If not I'll bet dollars to donuts that your rear master cylinder is full of crap and not letting the expansion hole in it do it's job. Usually it's the rear that locks up, due to the brake line being so close to the exhaust and heating up. Thats where your thermal expansion will get you, the relief hole is plugged and the expanding fluid is going to go somewhere...to the rear caliper and lock it up. It happened to me trying to head to a M&E trying to outrun a storm. Was only about 15 miles from home so I headed back right into that rain. The rear master is a bit of a pain to judge on it's fullness, I usually get it to about half an inch from the top. I take metal hanger and dip it down past the top lip, mark that spot and pull it out to see where it's setting at.

I have gone up against a Vrod, with a 1st gen. Now yours Gary, is not a normal 1st gen, but a relatively stock one didn't have a chance. I got beat pretty badly, they are vicious off the line and run up the hp pretty quickly....but what do you expect from a motor that was built by Porsche
-
Thats one of the best examples of how a 1st gen should perform. I know Dennis tweaked it perfect and it was one of the scary fast ones, it ran that good. Been thinking about Vicki and him for some time now. Glad to see there still about and kicking, hopefully still enjoying that Miata they bough a few years back. if you see him again, tell him we say howdy from Texas

I have heard both sides of the story with Dyna Beads, some claim it's better than sliced bread, others hated it and went back to hanging weights. I personally have never used it, I may one day just to be able to compare apples to apples. Both posters before me here have mentioned some good points, and ones I would agree with and check. I could be wrong, but I dont think the rake for the sidecar would screw with it that much, I may be wrong, but if it didn't do it with the hack on, probably not betting it's doing it without. I would make sure the tire is absolutely seated, put good old fashioned weights back on it and see how it plays out. If it's good, and you want to play with the Dyna Beads again, take the weights off and dump in the beads...

Enjoy the new ride, yamaha will continue to loose the touring market share until they create a new touring platform. There are many on this site that have decided not to buy another yamaha because of it

Hey I have an idea....why dont you come to TEXAS!

Les, If someone other than yourself had the carb bank off from the top portion of the intake manifolds, they might not be all the way on. I have taken several carb banks completely off 1st gens and you really have to put some downward pressure into push them down onto the tops of the manifolds for them to completely engage. I dont have picks of it, but there is a shelf on the bottom of all 4 of the carbs, that when it's installed properly will sit flush on top of the carb manifolds. I have fixed many of them where the previous owner didn't have them pushed down all the way. If this isn't right it will screw all sorts of things up. Hopefully Dingy will see this thread and have pics of a set of carbs sitting correctly (he has more pics of naked 1st gens than Carters got Little Liver pills)

You'll get there bro, I still remember celebrating your Bday with you in '07 at the Ft. Collins Rally and the '08 Kitchener Rally...that was cool
