  1. Happy Birthday Dan!!!
  2. Ventures, both 1st and 2nd gen are very hard on batteries. The charging systems are marginal at best and when you start adding lights and all the other electronics we like to use, it taxes the charging system and thus the battery. As a rule of thumb, for me this is, I change them out after 3 years no matter how good they appear to be. I have had several be absolutely fine and then the next day are junk, no warning, no nothing. 4 years is a decent run, and for this bike I believe you got your monies worth out of it...
  3. The one Brian mentioned above looks interesting....
  4. Whoopsie!!!
  5. Mark, Are you looking for a compressor to put on the bike for trips? I know I have seen several threads about tire repair kits on the site...
  6. I wish you all the best Paul, I know there were a few of our members that lived through Katrina. Kbran is in Bogalusa and he was socked pretty good. Y'all be careful and we'll say a pray for all of you.
  7. The paint really matched up well, I remember talking with you about 5 weeks ago or so and didn't expect it to match as well as it does. Good fabrication job too, out of the box thinking at it's best. I noticed the rear looking lean of the seat too, just an optical from what you mentioned. As long as y'all are comfortable on it thats all that counts....Good job my friend
  8. Congratulations Lew! I have been looking at the pics and it looks like it's in pretty reasonable shape. I'm sure it will give you and Charlene many years of enjoyment
  9. Brant, Your the one telling the story, so this is a good thing. Take your time and heal up as well as you can. The bobber has been done, Zagger (a member here) is the 1st one that comes to mind when I think of a 1st gen thats been customized. Take care of yourself and let us know if there is anything we can do to help you out.
  10. Just talked with my younger brother who is in Rotunda West just south of Tampa and they are getting a lot of rain. I know folks in NOLA are a bit edgy with this one as it could take a path towards them. Y'all be safe and do what you have to do, hell it may swing far west and hit Houston for all we know
  11. Thanks for the heads up Jeff, I hope they get all your money back
  12. Trust me, dont think about it...DO IT! You will have a blast and the folks up there are some of the best this site has to offer. We went to the 1st one in '06 and have trying to get back every year since, you wont regret going, besides your guts hurting from laughing at all the foolery that WILL happen
  13. RSV without the trunk...
  14. This site is a pretty cool place...
  15. Happy Birthday!!!
  16. The product is actually called B12 Chemtool, it's made by Berryman http://www.berrymanproducts.com/ I have used it for years, but make sure that you dont let it sit over a long period of time as it will eat up lots of stuff like orings. I usually put it in and let it set for a day or 2 and ride the tank out.
  17. Mike, This is just my experience, and isn't the gospel, but I have found that trying to rebuild a rear brake cylinder or clutch slave doesn't always work out so good. If you decide to go this route, make absolutely sure that the inside bore and all machined surfaces are spotless, zero pits or defects. I have done a couple and it seems that the material that was used is one step above pot metal. I have only had a 50% success rate with rebuilding them and have attempted 6. If a new one can be had, I would spring for a new one. I replaced the clutch slave on my '86 with a new one because of all the failures I have had in the past with them...
  18. I agree with your statement there Bob, 20+ year old seals probably wouldn't hold up very well.
  19. Speaking from experience, you dont want to find out what can happen if a tire lets loose. I did at highway speeds and many will tell you it's a miracle that my wife and I survived....
  20. If memory serves me right, the class would let it fill to 20 or 21 psi....
  21. I would check out all the switches and make sure that they are all clean and free moving. Give that a shot and come back with your results, we can do a little better troubleshooting with some basics performed if more is needed
  22. ...but mostly we talked about you! Glad to have you back on the site
