Squidley replied to Squidley's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I love you guys! Y'all are still wanting to help me after 4 years Seriously though, for those that chimed in and put up information, it is very much appreciated. You can never tell when someone else will need info and this brings it back up to date with good information -
Thanks again everyone, I ended up calling off on Friday and took a 3 day weekend (didn't hurt my feeling that work ticked me off the day before)

Thats interesting to know, I have never heard of anything past an '87 (Canadian Model)

Lewis, Something I ran across when I switched over to the delink system on the front of this '86 I have. Depending upon if they used different lines and/or banjo bolts. Not all banjo bolts are the same. The ones on the original Venture have a strait shoulder and the fitting is channeled. Newer lines have a strait surface on the ID of the line fitting and the banjo bolt has a channel in it. Here is a write up I did on my findings. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=65356&highlight=Banjo+Bolt

George, I am almost positive that the G2 coil is a molded unit, 1 piece. I dont think there is any way you can screw a plug wire cap onto the body. I have coils on this '99 I have in pieces, but I dont know that any of them are bad. I can send you some pics of them if that would help you at all?

Thats the same color combo BradT had with his 1st Venture. It was a Canadian issued color and didn't sell in the states. It also sounds like its the one of the last made standards. If I'm not mistaken all of the US based MKII's starting in '86 were royals with all the bells and whistles.

We know how you OLD guys need your naps...there is a nice hammock underneath 2 shade trees here if you change your mind.

Bring em with you, I'd like to see how that deep frier works

Andy, Flyinfool has it down with what he mentioned, if you extend the tongue it will tow lots better. A cooler on the front is also a great idea, I did that on my 1st custom one I built. Use a good quality grease and I would strongly recommend installing bearing buddies on the hubs. Before I would use mine I would jack the side up and pump the bearing buddy full of grease while spinning it to insure there was plenty in there. The LED tail lights are a must to keep the load to a minimum on the charging system. When you do tow it dont fill the tires up to full pressure, 15 to 20 psi is PLENTY in them. They wont bounce as much and with what your going to be hauling in there. There is lots of good advise in the trailer section.

You'll have to pay attention to the rim width and the swing arm width.... -
That will work just fine, I built one and sold it to Hazenson before we left Michigan. Pulled great and it's so much more convenient on trips not having to load the hell out of the bike.

Thank YOU Patti, it's folks like you with great ideas and intentions that make this site what it is

Thanks for the clarification Lewis, the old rememberer isn't what it used to be. Regardless I'm in for both

Happy Birthday!!!

Hang tough big guy, I know it's a pita, but your only doing yourself a favor by going through with it.....all the best to you my friend

This is a nice idea, and I am in for it also, but if I'm not mistaken aren't we as a group working on getting the $10K donation for a Mark Stills (Mean Dog) plaque? My memory isn't what it used to be, so I can be totally off base here

I haven't heard of anyone wanting to change out tires. I do need to put a set on the 1st gen, so here's what I'll do. I will show anyone that wants to learn how to change your tires on a 1st gen without using a motorcycle jack. I have done this several times using just the centerstand and it's pretty strait forward. So if you'd like to see how it's done stop by and I'll show y'all. I'll see if we can video it as well as some pics. Looking forward to seeing everyone

The splines are identical and how they fit into the rear end, the fingers that fit into the hubs are the same style also. The difference is the wheel design, it very well may fit from 1 bike to the other -
I have built a couple of trailers with that kit, put a car topper on it and it worked great. Pull the trigger, you wont have any issues

Good to hear your recovering at home Buddy! Take your time and heal up well, give it time, you have all winter to decide what you want to do. If you decide to fix the trike, let me know as I am going to start to part out the '99 I have down here.

Sean, Some good advise here, personally I dont have a switch on my driving lights. They are hooked up directly to a relay that comes on when I turn the ignition to the on position. You'll more than likely have to pull the fax gas tank cover and see where the wires are hooked into? If they have an inline fuse hooked directly to the battery or something to that effect. Some pics would be helpful in helping you trace it down.
