Have you checked the gear oil in it? If you just got it, you probably haven't had the time to take the rear rim off and check the splines on the hub, or the driveshaft. This is routine maintenance that folks dont necessarily do, especially not dealers. There is lots of info on the site about greasing the splines and driveshaft, thats what i would be checking 1st

I would have an issue with someone wanting to trade a BMW touring bike, for a Harley Sportster. Just doesn't really jive well with me, I know BMW's are an expensive bike to fix, and they are over engineered. They can be great, except when they break and you have to take them to a dealer. I dont know that I would be chasing after that, just my opinion...

I wanted to mention also that if you or your SO are going to make a dish, that you get ahold of Lonna. Her email is mrsweldman66@yahoo.com or PM her here Sweetnothing so she can know what will have to be covered. I'll put a poll up top so we can get an idea of how many folks from the site will be coming and how much food we'll have to provide for....Thanks.

'90 VR runnin' hot
Squidley replied to norsk1's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Unless you were buried in the red, your fine. The gauges aren't "Super" accurate and there is a big leeway. Pretty much all my 1st gens have skirted on the red line with the temp gauge. If your really concerned with it, take the metal temp sensor housing off and sandblast it all clean. Clean the sensor as well, there's actually 2 of them 1 for the gauge and 1 for the fan. This will give you the best possible chance for an accurate reading of the gauge. I live just north of Houston and I just gutted my thermostat as we are now into the 100 degree days. Even with fresh coolant and a gutted thermostat I still run right at that red line on the gauge. As long as it isn't buried, I'm not going to sweat it.... -
You dont have to change the fuel lines out on the road. Many times if you have issues with the fuel pump a few taps will get it going again. If you do start having issues, you'll want to keep the tank over half full so you have some head pressure to keep the carbs full. I know of several that have done the Mr Gasket 42S fuel pump, works like a charm and you can find one at every autozone or oriellys auto parts.

Bridgestone or Brickstones as many here call them, are a tire that comes on the RSV from the factory. In my opinion they suck! the Dunlop 404's were the other tires that came on the RSV from the factory, they aren't much better. Many of us have used different tires when it comes to the RSV, Avon Venoms, Dunlop E3's, Michelin Commanders. If your going to chenge them out those would be the ones I would look at. You'll be amazed at how the handling characteristics c hange with a set of good tires.

Hey Folks, This is the responce that I posted in Gunboat memorial ride thread... "It appears that we are in for a ride from the responses in this thread. Lets call the date Saturday August 31st, respective states post up in separate threads where your M&E will be and we'll do this. When all is done on the 31st, we'll either come back to this thread with the pics we took or we'll place them in an area where all can view them. Thank You all again for jumping on the wagon with me here, this will be a very cool thing I believe and we will celebrate Gunboats life the way it should be celebrated, with wind in our faces BTW: If folks want to do multiple M&E's in the same state due to the states size, please do this." This will happen on August 31st, I know there have been a couple others that have already started organizing rides of their own in their respective states. I want to Thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for making this happen. I am looking forward to hearing of all the various M&E's and seeing the pics....Thank you

Ok Folks, I finally have the information on Don's funeral arrangements. The date will be Saturday July 13th, this is due to next weekend being the 4th of July and Cathy didn't want to have to try and compete with that. There is no funeral home viewing, Don was cremated 48 hours after his passing and it takes about a week to get the remains back. Instead we are going to celebrate his life at the VFW post # 1839 in Cleveland Texas, I'll leave the addy at the bottom of this post. This is going to be a dish to pass deal. What we would like to ask of those attending, if you could make a specialty dish your known for, or something that you knew Don liked, that you please bring it with you. We'll handle a main meat dish like chicken or such, but all the fixins would be great to have. This VFW post is a cash bar, there is no outside drinks of any kind allowed, that includes sodas and soft drinks. This is the policy of this VFW post, and it would be appreciated if we can follow that rule. They gave us the hall for free due to Don being a veteran and Lonna and I paying for the hall for Heathers wedding in November. I think we can help support them with the drink thing. This is a very casual affair, if you want to get all dressed up, thats cool, but if you want to show in your jeans and riding vest that would be even better, that is how I'm going to show up as thats who Don was. In lieu of flowers being sent, it is asked that if you want to send something, that it be sent to The Wounded Warrior Project https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/Default.aspx?tsid=167&campaignSource=CDRO&source=B100108 We will have the hall from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 pm. This will all be played off the hip, there isn't going to be a "Service" per say. I will be giving a eulogy and will more than likely draw upon some of us and family for memories of Don. Although this is a sad occasion to have to get together for, this will also be a blessing to share time together and celebrate Don's life and how he touched all of us. If you have any questions please feel free to ask them here in this thread or PM me directly. Looking forward to seeing y'all. VFW Hall # 1839 18 CR 396 Cleveland Texas 77328

Sad news from Dan Monday
Squidley replied to Freebird's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
This is terrible news, I remember working on Dan's bike at MD. His son had a V45 Magna there with them if I recall right. I wish there were words to say, but I am so sorry for your loss Dan. All the best to you and your family getting through this. -
Hey Folks, Quite a lot has been happening at VRO with the passing of Gunboat. The Houston crew is still soaking all this in as it's hard to put into words what Don meant to all of us here. There has been some talk about a memorial ride, and one of our members in Ohio (Campfire12) had mentioned about "people all over ventureland can make the ride in there own neck of the country and report in" I think this could really be a very cool thing. Now I'm not going to jump right into this, I want to see how y'all feel about the entire VRO country having a M&E in their own state on a chosen day to celebrate Don's life. This would be a pretty good undertaking as we would have to pick a day. I want to mention that Aussie Annie has asked that when we do it in Texas, she would like to be here for it. That would be late August and I know she would appreciate it if we could accommodate her for that as she and Don had a good relationship. I'd like to hear what the members think and feel about this. Regardless of the date, we in Texas will have a ride for Gunboat while Annie and Alan are in our state. I would love to see if we can all pull it off together...so what say ye brethren?
