  1. Some may get their knickers in a twist over what I am about to say, but I hate sharing the road with a bicycle. They are an endangerment as bikes aren't solid enough to handle certain road conditions. They can't keep up with traffic, so you have to slow down until you can pass them. They dont have to have any of the licenses or plating or insurance that we do driving cars or motorcycles. I know folks like to ride bikes, there are a crap load down here in Texas. If a bicycle wants to share the road with me, then share the tax burden of the upkeep of the road.....thats how I feel about it
  2. This is mine before I widened it to accommodate trikes, been the same treated 2X8 planks for going on 8 years now. Trailer is solid as a rock, carriage bolts through the frame and bolted tight, I have hauled dozens of bikes on it and it has atleast 30K miles on it. 11000lb D rings to lash the bike down, bolted right through the frame as well...Last 4 pics are after I extended the width, Gunboats '99 and DragonRiders '93 trikes
  3. Ride Herb.....A LOT!!!
  4. Yes it will make a mess with 7 lbs of air in it, before you drain the fork oil make sure all the air is released. Your last statement should tell you what you probably should do. If it's a new to you bike, and you dont know the exact maintenance on the bike, then I would put fresh fork oil in it. This way you have a base of when it was done and you dont have to be concerned when you really want to "depend" on it down the road.....
  5. I suppose I'm like some of the others here... My handshake is my word, and my name, both my Grandfathers told me that. Give a firm handshake and look them in the eye. Dont disgrace your family name. "Stick to your guns" my stepfather (a Marine) told me this and I have followed through with it since I was a young man. If you believe your right dont let anyone talk you into changing your mind. Be honest, and try your best not to impose on others. Give back more than you take. I suppose if I can help 1 person to be better than they perceive themself to be, then thats what I would want to be remembered for. I know there is a LOT of things that I definitely dont need to be remembered for
  6. Y'all just slobbered a bibful there, I do miss the rides we are able to take all the members on in that area
  7. I wish I had his time problem, an idle mind can be a dangerous thing
  8. Yes, thats is correct
  9. Thanks for your efforts Mike, maybe at some point I'll try to make some again....but thats not in the foreseeable future.
  10. If you have some time to have the bike apart, send your rearend stateside and do the swap out http://rmsportmax.com/gateway.html As far as I know, it is a direct swap. I dont know how mechanically inclined you are, but the lash has to be set on the gears if you try to change the ring and pinion yourself. You can also use the rearend out of an FJR, it has the same gear ratio as the Vmax ones.
  11. SWEET!!!
  12. Ok Folks, The poll closed and it appears that we have roughly a dozen of us from the site going. hal will be our chef as Cathy (Don's Girlfriend) asked if he would smoke some brisket and such, which he agreed to do. If anyone that was thinking about coming could get with Lonna (Sweetnothing) and was going bring something, please let her know. Thanks again for all the support...
  13. Thats a great ride up into Port Huron and further North. Lonna and I would always head along the river and up to PH for supper in the evenings. There's a small Ice Cream parlor (if they are still in business) in the 1st portion of St. Clairs strip mall, always used to be a stop on my M&E's. Have a great time and take some pics if you can.
  14. Paul, I would love for you to come over, but I do know how tight it is for you. If you do make it we have a place for you to crash regardless. Let me know if I can help you with anything.
  15. Happy Birthday Mate!!!
  16. Yeah, after you redid them
  17. Have you checked the gear oil in it? If you just got it, you probably haven't had the time to take the rear rim off and check the splines on the hub, or the driveshaft. This is routine maintenance that folks dont necessarily do, especially not dealers. There is lots of info on the site about greasing the splines and driveshaft, thats what i would be checking 1st
  18. Whoopsie!
  19. I would have an issue with someone wanting to trade a BMW touring bike, for a Harley Sportster. Just doesn't really jive well with me, I know BMW's are an expensive bike to fix, and they are over engineered. They can be great, except when they break and you have to take them to a dealer. I dont know that I would be chasing after that, just my opinion...
  20. Thank You Wayne, we appreciate our Canadian Brethrens support
  21. Y'all have a great time and were looking forward to living vicariously through you both
  22. Great job Darrin!!
  23. I wanted to mention also that if you or your SO are going to make a dish, that you get ahold of Lonna. Her email is mrsweldman66@yahoo.com or PM her here Sweetnothing so she can know what will have to be covered. I'll put a poll up top so we can get an idea of how many folks from the site will be coming and how much food we'll have to provide for....Thanks.
  24. Sweet! Welcome back home
  25. Unless you were buried in the red, your fine. The gauges aren't "Super" accurate and there is a big leeway. Pretty much all my 1st gens have skirted on the red line with the temp gauge. If your really concerned with it, take the metal temp sensor housing off and sandblast it all clean. Clean the sensor as well, there's actually 2 of them 1 for the gauge and 1 for the fan. This will give you the best possible chance for an accurate reading of the gauge. I live just north of Houston and I just gutted my thermostat as we are now into the 100 degree days. Even with fresh coolant and a gutted thermostat I still run right at that red line on the gauge. As long as it isn't buried, I'm not going to sweat it....
