Mk II vs Mk I Stator
Squidley replied to Trader's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The early Ventures, '83 and '84's had a solid bolt that held the flywheel/magnet on the crank. Yamaha devised a kit that had a retaining bolt with a hole in the center of it so it could sling oil over the stator thus keeping it cooler. If I'm not mistaken '85 and up had this stock on the bike, it was just the early ones that had the issues. I had pics of the kit and instructions, but lost it in my last reload of my computer. It's on the site, go to the search bar up top and type in stator cooling kit and it should bring them up. -
Mk II vs Mk I Stator
Squidley replied to Trader's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yep... I have a stator out of an '85 charging my '86 as we speak until I can get a new one from Buckeye. -
what's up with this?
Squidley replied to venture83_98's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have never seen a set of them on any 1st gen, I have owned 7 of them. Now were both befuddled -
How fast do you need the Rich? I have a stock set I am taking off my '86 to put the larger foam ones on, but I need to get them leather wrapped 1st. I may have an additional set of foam ones if your interested in those....let me know.

mystery fork leak
Squidley replied to mike042's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Seeing the anti dive on your '83 is connected to the brake system I would look at the banjo bolts for tightness. Spray it down good with some brake clean and try to pin point it that way. If memory serves me correct, there are O rings that seal the AD to the forks. -
Russell, The fluid may indeed be too high, but in many cases it is because the fluid hasn't been changed in 15 years. It will collect moisture and gel up, this will cause the return oriface in the master cylinder to clog. When your riding the bike the fluid will heat up and expand as it is supposed to do. That oriface is supposed to let fluid go back into the reservoir, when it can't go there it goes the only place left....to the rear caliper and lock it up. I have had it happen a couple of times on different bikes. Make sure if you do take it to a mechanic that he ABSOLUTELY cleans the master cylinder out. If you were closer I would gladly show you how to do it.

Thats just like when Lonna and I did our month long trip in '06 and were going to the 1st PIP in Minniesoda. We stalked a 2nd gen in Lusk Wyoming on our way to Susanville Ca and talked with them, parted way and did our trip. Night before we arrived at Gary's place in Bemidji I came out from the hotel we stayed at packing the bike to finish getting there and here is this officer looking my bike over. I head over to him and ask if there was something wrong? He looked at me and says you dont recognize me do you? I looked at him funny and he said to me...."Lusk Wyoming" I just about fell over! the same guy we stalked is right there in front of me. He was a local cop in the town where we stayed and on Saturdays he and several of his sheriff buds have breakfast at the Perkins restaurant right next door to where we stayed the night....talk about odds

Glad your safe and bedded down for the night buddy, get some rest!

Thats right in the range of the Ventures both 1st and 2nd gens. I have gotten as low as 35 on a good running bike, and as high as 42. This is owning 3 2nd gens and 4 1st gens that saw lots of miles between them.

The G2 engine is a bit toned down, the rev limiter is set at 6500 rpms stock. A Vmax or FJR rearend and a Dyna 3000 ignition module to advance the timing and bring up the rev limiter and you'll see a whole different beast out of the 2nd gen

Hell bud, your that far down just run into Florida and go back north to Vogel and see the brethren

Ok Folks, We have had some VERY different responses to this thread, and it's really taken me by surprise. Abdul, I hope there is some tongue in cheek with your statement about this being spam. I personally dont see it that way, but I'll be more than happy to check with the other moderators and get their input. The bit about waving to other bikes has got me a bit befuddled as well. A simple nod if someone waves at you is sufficient as well. No needing to take hands off the bars. I see it as if someone is that apprehensive about taking their hands off the bar for a second, maybe motorcycle riding isn't quite a good past time for them. If you have to feel that every second your on a bike you have to worry about everything, it's not fun....

Just an educated guess, but probably towards Texas as in 2 weeks we'll be having Gunboats memorial ride

R1 Brake Upgrade?
Squidley replied to Ventureless's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have the R1 calipers on my '86 and love them, I just purchased a set of SS brake lines from Skydoc 17 and love them even more. I didn't have to change out the master cylinder, there are plenty of arguments on the site about that either way. They stop excellent and the quality of Earls lines are fantastic. I dont regret spending the money on them as it's that last set of lines I'll buy for this bike. He has a set for the G2's also in the classifieds... http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=4052&title=second-gens-sbrake-2fclutch-5-line-set-21&cat=22 -
Lewis, Thank you for all you and your crew do to make Vogel happen year after year. I have been fortunate enough to be able to attend 3 of them, I wanted to surprise you and make this year 4, but work changed that plan. Y'all have a great time and be careful

Dont go used, you never know what they have been through. I will 2nd the Shinko's, they ride well are inexpensive and stick like glue. The mileage I have got with them isn't great, about 8K on the rear of one and the front went close to 13K. This was on a set of the 230 Tourmasters, I have a set of them on an '83 I have right now. I am trying a new set of Shinko's on my '86 the 777. So far I like them, quiet, handle a curvy road great and they cost me less than $170 shipped to my door (I change them myself) I have no issues promoting them and letting folks know the drawback is less mileage out of the tires.....

Just want to throw some person experience/wisdom in here. Changing the fluid was the 1st and easiest thing to do. It will work pretty good for a while. Get some green backs up and purchase the clutch upgrade kit from Skydoc 17. You will have to change the spring out, it's just a matter of time. I can almost guarantee you that the steels are glazed over. So dont be surprised in the not too distance future you start to get the slippage in 4th and 5th gear. It's not a hard job and the bike will lock up a lot better with the upgraded clutch in it....enjoy your new scoot

whats this plug for?
Squidley replied to Black wing's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'm almost certain that it's for an emissions add on for the California model bikes. I asked the same questions several years ago and if memory serves me right, that was the answer I got.... -
Happy Belated Birthday Bobo!!!

I know we chatted a bit at MD and you were mentioning that. I'm glad it worked out for you and you can stay with TVA. Had we been able to swing Tennessee, I would have been all over getting into TVA, just didn't work out that way. I know what a pain it is to move, so best of luck to you Bud, I wish I could help you out.

Joe, It is simply called "Plug" 90338-11152-00
