First thing is check for spark, you could waste a lot of time worrying about fuel if you dont have any, fresh plugs for sure. Drain the fuel and run a gallon of fresh fuel through the tank to help clean out and debris. Drain the carbs and pull the bowls to see whats inside them. Let the bowls fill back up and see if you can get it started, if so take some starter fluid and spray around the boots. This will help you to find out if they are cracked and need replacing if the engine rev's while spraying. Just some places to start, let us know if these work and if we need to do some more troubleshooting. BTW I had a 750 triple...they will scare the hell out of you

May the family find some peace in this tragedy, Tom...you have the highest respect that I have for anyone in uniform. God Bless you Brother as I don't know that I could do what you did with breaking it to the family. Your a leader among men...thank you for your selflessness with handling the situation...Semper FI

Dan, You can buy a base coat/clear coat system in any color with or without metal flake. You might want to go to your paint supply house (auto color or auto parts store) and talk with them a bit to get some ideas of whats available.

Redneck hit it right on the head...just takes practice and good prep. 1 trick with metal flake that I learned is to put a ball bearing or a marble in the gun cup (if your using a standard bottom cup gun) and keep shaking it around inbetween spray lines. This will keep the flake evenly distributed and uniform as your spraying. Paul...I would love to get to your place and see some of your work, that would be a great day to see all those tricked out fiddles

cb antenna
Squidley replied to Roy Hoffman's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Roy, This isn't an uncommon problem and the dealers wont warranty it. I would just go and purchase a different antenna. I have used Firesticks on my '86 and my '99 and have been pretty happy with them. For about the $100.00 the dealer wants to charge you, a complete set of dual antennas and new mounts can be purchased. The firesticks are tuneable and a good product...just an option to look at. -
Sure looks like you twisted that one Mark A bit of a country boy now, but a hell raiser when I was young Sorry about the Hijack there Paul...keep us posted with the paint, I know it will be awsome.

You do some exceptional work Paul, very, very nice. I think that with your talent the bike will look very trick...looking forward to seeing it PS Great pic of George Lynch, I always loved Dokken and he is one of the best there is.

Ditto on the Stabil or Seafoam and a ride to fill the carbs with it, I keep the battery in and have a Battery Tender JR hooked up to it so it stays charged all winter long. http://batterytender.com/default.php?cPath=11_3

Safety: Motorcycle Fatalities Are Increasing
Squidley replied to Starpuller's topic in Safety and Education
I agree with Skid on the gas prices, also too the baby boomers are retiring and have lots of spendable income and breaking all the old rules of how to be retired. Many people do not have the skills to think fast and on their feet, it's just not in their nature. This doesn't help anything and everyone busy with a cell phone glued to thier head is another strike. Bottom line is we all have to be incharge of our action so we can have a fighting chance....OK off rant- 10 replies

God Bless you Fred....she still watches over you my friend

Did you clean the connections real good when you installed it? I would bypass the start solenoid and see if the starter turns over directly. Also with sitting that long maybe the starter switch's contacts are dirty or corroded. Being it's that old and sitting that long I would be cleaning all the wire connecting plugs and whatnot, you could be chasing it for a bit.

He was thinking of Lost in Space & Buck Rogers at the same time Besides we needed this kind of post after the BIG crash

It was explained to me that running higher octane is not worth it. 87 octane actually burns hotter than 91, the higher octane is for engines over 11 to 1 compression, the Ventures are 10 to 1. I run 87 in all my bikes and NEVER have any problems with it....I wouldn't waste your money on it.

DOH.....I hate when that happens!

I had posted up a responce on a thread in the watering hole about stopping a crack in your windshield. As far as stopping the crack, you need to get a very tiny drill bit and locate the end of the crack. Take the drill and drill a small hole through the exact point at where the crack ends. In the service we did this to aircraft (called stopdrilling) It relieves the pressure on the crack and stops it from traveling more.

Wayne, Rick at Buckeye is a good source for the braided lines and EBC HH pads are a real good set to use, have 'em on the '99 and I'm very pleased with them.

Gary is right the Royal Star and the RSV covers are different. I had a set off a RS and they will not work on the RSV

I might be wrong but they look like the drivers floor boards for a heel/toe setup, personally I would let those pass as you will probably never find that rubber missing for the one.

Definitely a drag John, never a good time to hear anything like that. I will say that it's good to hear that you were able to spend some time with him before he passed. I remember my grandmother telling me how much it meant for my Grandfather to spend time with me when I came home from the Gulf in '91. Keep those good times in your head, we never realise how fortunate we are until it's too late. .....Semper Fi my friend, and be safe if you ride the scoot out there

Randy...your always full of good practical info Bud! That would be a steady hand to drill that small screw...glad it worked out for you!

Clutch Bleeding
Squidley replied to 93 venture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You can try the gravity bleed first by tying the handle open overnight. If you get no results then do the standard bleed, I did the clutch on my '99 while we were in Vogel this year with Freebird and Eck in no time. Personally I would say to bleed it out and replace all the fluid as it's more than likely been years since it has been done. Another thing you might want to think about is replacing the clutch springs, not hard stuff, let me know if you need help. -
I have the Kuryakyn Trunk bag that is depicted in this ebay auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GOLDWING-1800-GL1800-KURYAKYN-TRUNK-RACK-BAG_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35580QQihZ010QQitemZ200027738115QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW If you have a reese reciever on the bike then you could also put a small platform on like this one from Diamond R http://diamondraccessories.com/saddlemate/proddisplay.php?name=Saddlemate Other than that your at the mercy of how light you can pack...good luck in the quest!
