  1. I have to do that too Larry...Thanks for the reminder
  2. You have to use a very sticky grease, regular wheel bearing grease just doesn't cut it. Here is a pic of what I use on my bikes, it's a Valvoline synthetic with Moly in it and it works well for me.
  3. You can't go with a bigger tire on the back, it will rub the driveshaft tube. Only problem with the 880 Metz is there has been problems with chunks of the tires coming off. I had a set on my 1st '99 and were happy with them as far as performance, but I know of a few folks here that had the rubber coming off problem. I run the Avon Venom X's with the narrower front tire on my 2nd '99 and I love them! I have used them on my '86 also and was VERY happy with them on it. Not trying to sell you on a different tire, but I am leary about the 880's and the problems they have had with them. Whatever tire you choose I would strongly suggest that you use Southwest Moto Tire for purchasing whatever you decide. They are a contributing vendor and have just about the best price you'll find anywhere on the internet. Besides that they DONATED a set of Avon Venoms for our E-Fishin-C bike project last year. They are great to deal with and this is who I buy all my tires from
  4. Orrin, You can absolutely use a battery tender, I use the Jr. on both 1st and 2nd gens. Hook it directly to the battery as it is already fused and on the 1st gen I ran the pigtail out the front by the radiator. I have my G2 hooked up to one right now in the garage. If your bike's battery is starting to give you problems then I would suggest a new one. I installed a PD 680 Oddessy in E-Fishins bike and it seems to be a very nice battery. Freebird has one in his '99 and has been trouble free for 5 years if I'm not mistaken. Here's the tender I use http://batterytender.com/product_info.php?products_id=4
  5. I know where your coming from Jack, unfortunately it's a nitche market and your not going to make the money on volume...so they will kick the price. You already know this as your a businessman, this is why I make the vast majority of the parts for my bikes. I agree with the apple to oranges, unfortunately there's not a lot we can do. Plenty of americans will pay outrageous prices to keep up with the jonses...I just bring the jones down to my level
  6. You pay for the R&D and all the upgrades I agree that it is expensive, but how many Aholes do you think sue trailer mfgrs when they are in an accident? This is why I dont try to go big with any of my products that I make, there are too many folks that will try to screw you out of every dime you try to make. I look at my trailer that I sold Marcarl, I had $850 in parts in it and I built it myself. If I was going to sell them made like that, I would charge $1250 as I would want to make a profit. Obviously the cheaper I could come by parts I could take the price down. Just my ranting
  7. FWIW I had a set of Irridiums in my '86 and saw no real noticeable difference in peformance or fuel economy. I wont be spending $10 per plug for them again, thats just my observation on them, others may have had better results
  8. Buzz....welcome to the circle
  9. An interesting read for sure, but I would like to get 1 thing out in the open here on what I have just read. There are Many Many Americans that do realise what Canada has done with all the world conflicts. Many of us on this site just believe that when we talk or do things that Canadians are equals here. Whenever I host gatherings and post something up for Michigan it is always in my mind that our Ontario bretheren are just part of that mix. Not saying that your not appreciated for your own culture, just that your part of a family that know no borders. I have met many former and active Candaian military folks, they are every bit as trained as all the folks I knew in the service when I was in. I still remember hearing all the stories about Canadians taking in folks stranded after 9/11. So I'll say it too, I'm very proud to call all of our Canadians here my friends, and hopefully I present myself that you can consider me one of yours.
  10. Dave, I have both the baffle plates drilled out in mine completely, making it technically a strait pipe. I used a 1 1/8" holesaw and a long drill bit and removed all of the plates on the inside. It really isn't that loud while cruising, I hear the air passing more than the pipes. When I crack the throttle thats when she barks and I really love the sound of it.
  11. Thanks for posting it up Steve, they seem like a nice unit to have
  12. That sounds very close to what mine are like, but that doesn't include a good fly-by which is when they really sing and sound the best in my opinion. I'll try to get some audio of that soon....but no promises on mother natures help
  13. That doesn't sound too bad, I'll have to see if I can get a soundbite of the R/K's on and then folks would have a better comparison.
  14. Jon, Many folks just swap over to the Roadking pipes as they have a nice bark to them. I believe that Big Mike drilled his stock pipes out and wasn't happy with the sound. I personally love the sound of my drilled out R/K pipes and just put a set on my 2nd '99. I'm sure you'll get a lot of responces to your question
  15. Probably not
  16. It's funny that you post this as I was going to try and figure out how to recalibrate my speedo also. I too hate not knowing exactly how fast I'm going, whether I'm speeding or not. I'll be looking into buying this cool little gadget and getting mine strait
  17. Rick, Thats great info and as soon as Paul gets back from holidays I'll give him a call and see what we need to do. I'm not going to be riding for at least 3 more months and I could supply him with the stator off my '99 for rebuilding and some R&D. I'll let you all know what I come up with
  18. Very good post Goose, lots of info to be thought upon. In my mind it begs the question of, did Yamaha build in the capacity to increase the charging system? or is there another company that has a larger stator with more charging capacity? I like more lights just for the fact to be seen and it's somewhat of a drag to have to start changing over non essentials to LED's to ease up the burden on the system. You would have thought that when they redid the RSV that they would have learned from their past mistakes with the 1st gens charging system
  19. Bigin, Some folks have had similar problems with being in 5th gear at slower speeds. These V4's like revs the 1st gens easily spin up to 8K on the r's. Dont be afraid to run those RPM's up high, it wont hurt anything. Drop a gear or 2 when roliing power on hard, all my 1st gens became rockets after the 4K mark and pulled hard to 8K. It might be just a getting used to how the engine works problem and not actually a mechanical thing as it sounds like you have gone through all the fixes that would be mentioned here.
  20. I put a 680 in the bike we did for Charlie and it worked out pretty well. I know Freebird has an oddesy in his '99 for about 4 years now with no problems
  21. Good job Bud...it looks real nice Thats on the list for my '99 also
  22. I would recommend that you get a trickle charger and hook it up while in storage. Sometimes it doesn't take much to kill much of your battery life when any vehicle is sitting. And yes you should let it warm up, if not it could carbon up the plugs...the Seafoam or Satbil in the gas is a definite
  23. That is a replica of the Kuryakyn bag that I have almost to a T. The front of my bag attaches with Velcro and the rear has a buckle. You have nothing to worry about, mine stays exactly where I put it, it's not going to fly off. Just be sure when you attach the velcro that engage as much of it around the rack tube as you can. I have driven 90 mph with one of these on the back and it didn't go anywhere
  24. I dont think that Buddy is that dense to say that would be the weight with "His Wife" in the trailer but instead how many "Treasures" she would try to cram in it...your welcome Buddy
  25. I like mine because it's simple and cheap! I dont drink coffee so it works great for me. It will fit an insulated mug as you can bend the holder being it's Aluminum.
