I'm Confused..need help
Squidley replied to lowflyer07's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
All of the oil isn't removed when you do an oil change. There is still a bit left over in the middle gear case. It ususally takes about 3.5 qts to do with the filter change. No worries, you didn't hurt anything and it's just another goof that is in the manual. BTW Good to have you with us, never any dumb questions here...so if you have questions, just ask -
I more than likely could handle it, but they wouldn't be cheap as there would be a lot involved in making them. A better bet is looking for a set on Ebay, besides I dont have the time to do what I need to do .....but I appreciate the vote of confidence

Slow Starter - When warm
Squidley replied to SuamicoBob's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
They do work well on most of the bike that they are installed on, but I can't give a 100% because Swiftys bike is posessed! Dave here is my only disclaimer...but I still love him -
I ordered the rear light for the 1st gen we gave E-Fishin-C last year and was pretty happy with it, I had no problems with it or their service

Thats the only place I buy tires after they donated a set for one of our members bike project

I'm running the Michelin Commanders right now to try them out, so far I have no complaints. I have usually run Avon Venoms and I really like them, have had 3 sets between 1 1st gen and 1 2nd gen I got about 13K out of the last set on my '99 and that was going cross country pulling a trailer and loaded heavy with 2 up. We'll see if the Michelins will stand up to that

Ian, On the G2's the coolant overflow is behind the right side cover under the drivers seat, the fill spout is under that seat. It should be fine since it's new , but if you want to check it thats where it's at. I run my rear shock at about 40 lbs loaded and 2 up we too are "Cuddley" the front shocks I run at about 3 or 4 lbs. Make sure your tires are aired up properly, I would suggest to almost the max pressure if your going to be abit heavy. The CB is just that, turn it on and press the talk button, the owners manual would be a good idea to brush up on as if your not familiar with the radio it can be intimidating....have fun and be safe

Yes that is the factory Yamaha light bar, and I too like being a bit different (that will open up a can of worms I'm sure)

Carbon Ones lift adapter is the best thing going, I have one and love it. I also have that jack from Sears and it works very well. All the advise given is right on the money
-
Both my '99's needed greasing but it's a crap shoot with who puts them together and if they know what they are doing PS Avons are great tires...you wont be disappointed

Scotty's advise is very good, I have used both the EBC pads and installed the Oddessy batteries.

RSV trunk removal

To be honest I would leave it on, doesn't hurt anything and once you take it off you will find that you actually did need it at some point -
RSV Electrical Capacity Info
Squidley replied to V7Goose's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Back to fill you all in on the progress, the bike is finally rideable. The problem turned out to be the Regulator/Rectifier. I called Paul again after I found out I had no charging and even though I got his voicemail within 10 minutes they called me back. They walked me through checking the stator legs to be sure there wasn't any problems there, they were all good. Mind you this is on a Friday night on the east coast about 6:30 PM and when I got through talking with them they were packaging a new Regulator to ship it air overnight. It actually arrived at my house by noon Saturday and I reassembled the bike and took it out Saturday evening for a 20 mile shakedown run. Today I took it out for better than a hundred miles and had no problems. What is going to happen now is Paul and his crew are going to make an upgraded Stator using all the info the obtained from my charging system. It will have a bigger capacity than the stock ones, but I might have not totally understood how much exactly. It sounds like at highway speeds turning 3500 rpms it will be an extra 200 watts. I will get all the actual #'s from Paul when they get the prototype done and shipped to me. That will take 6 to 8 weeks from what Paul had said. It has been a big mess at times, but atleast we will be able to have a better charging system due to all of this. I have learned some valuable lessons here and have a few more smarts about the charging system under my belt.....and the journey will continue -
Thanks for the pics Rich and all that you west coasters did...you make us all very proud

RSV Electrical Capacity Info
Squidley replied to V7Goose's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Ok.... Quick update, I FINALLY got my charging system back To only find out that now I'm not pushing any current I recieved the stator and magnet/flywheel 2 days ago, and they forgot to send the regulator with it. Then the overnighted the regulator which I got yesterday. I assembled the bike last night, started it up, and found that I was only pushing 11.6 volts So now I have to troubleshoot the system, I'm hoping it's just something like a regulator. Paul Brent has talked with me and says he can make an upgraded stator for the RSV. I want to talk with him some more but he was saying about 4 amps at 1500rpm and about 9 at 3500 rpm. I'll get back with him and make solid on the #'s. To be quite honest, this has really sucked, I wont ever do this again. A job that supposedly was suppost to be 2 weeks turned into about 2 months. Now I have to troubleshoot my charging system, this hasn't been a good experience. Paul has mentioned that it would be about 6 weeks before the prototype stator will be done. I'm not sure that I want the hassle of installing it on the bike As I know more, you will know more. -
Always hard to know what to say at a time like this. Many of us have never met eachother but feel a bond because of this place. Sherry, nothing can be said to ease your pain, I am so very sorry to wake up to hear this news. Both you and Tom have many friends here and it saddens us to know your having to go through this. Let us be your crutch in these times, if you need something just ask it of us. I will leave you with this.... Irish Tombstone Prayer Death is nothing at all, I have only slipped away into the next room. Whatever we were to eachother, that we are still Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you always used to. Laugh as we always laughed together. Play, Smile, Think of me, Pray for me. Let my name be the household word that it always was, let it be spoken without effort. Life means all that it ever meant, it is the same as it ever was, there is absolutely unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of your mind because I am out of your sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well, nothing is past, nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before...Only better, infinitely happier and forever we will all be one together with Christ

Go with #1 Jack, remember we are going to be in the mountains and the twisties. The Avons will stick like glue and it has the better clutch and brakes...seems like a no brainer
-
Sounds like a very full life, always sad to let someone go but we will see them again eventually. Our thoughts are with your family Jeff and Margaret...god will help you find the peace you need.

80/90 or 75/90 is just fine, and even though it is overkill, I swap my rearend dope out every spring when I lube the axle and rearend.

I hate to say (no I dont) but the eyebrows are just plain UGLY! I know some of you folks like them and thats all cool, but I just think it makes the fairing look too buy. The lights may have a different effect on me but as soon as I can paint my upper fairing mine are coming off like on my last one.

I have the saddlebag ones that I purchased off ebay and I like them a lot, dont have the one for the trunk though. $80 isn't bad but I recall I paid right at $50 shipped for the 2 saddlebag ones.
