Bought tires today
Squidley replied to DANJ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have a set on my '99 and I'm happy with them. They are a bit loud in the corners but seem to perform well. Freebird swears by them and from what I gather they are a good mileage tire. I will go back to Avons after these are done, I just wanted to try the Michelins so I could know what they felt like -

It's like anything tech based, some work great and some dont. We looked at getting one for the prizes at Ft. Collins but was informed that many have been returned. Marks is nice but he is a geek and knows how to tweak them....hope yours is just as good as his

Need your help with a used Venture
Squidley replied to WIKD's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
To be quite honest, if it's an '06 it has a 5 year warranty, so you really have nothing to worry about as far as problems. Just make sure the Radio/CB and other components work well. There really isn't a whole lot of problems with the G2's and basically your looking at a new bike -
My Avons lasted (on my new '99) about 15000 miles, but like it's been mentioned everyones wear will vary due to riding habits and in my case being heavily loaded pulling a trailer.

Thats a drag about the Pyles...but atleast they didn't cost you a bunch (wonder why?) I have always heard good things on Polk audio, I might have to look into them as my speakers are starting to sound bad

Anybody know the price
Squidley replied to Scoots's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I can appreciate that you had good luck with them Jerry. I, on the other hand, had a disaster with them. My stator wasn't installed right in the side cover when it was returned and I had to redo it. They didn't ship the regulator with the rest of the parts and then it was haphazardly tossed in a bubble envelope and sent to me. It arrived in non working condition and then the one that was sent to replace it died in less than 90 days and started to fry my wiring. I had called them on several different occasions and have never had a responce back. Dray commented to me in a phone conversation that they didn't do right by the Delphi forum on the 1100 Vstars. Just way too many coincidences of bad workmanship and lousy customer relations for me not to warn folks. This is absolutely my opinion and I dont expect folks to take my word for anything. They will have to see what works best for themselves. ....Thanks for the rant, I needed that -
Melting Fuse box
Squidley replied to tiny84's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Tiny, Here's what I did when my '84 crapped out. It's an 8 spot holder that uses spade type fuses. I bought it from my local electrical supply house, if you can't find one, I do have one here at the house that I could sell you.- 10 replies

Whatever you do DONT buy anything from Electrosport in California. I have had nothing but problems with their products and customer service. -
1200 Vs 1300
Squidley replied to Venturous Randy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have heard that you can punch this V4 out to 1600 cc's, but I dont know how thin that would make the cooling walls on it. Can you imagine the power from a 1600 cc Venture -

Rear Brake Proportioning Valve- Butler Mod
Squidley replied to Freebird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'll be interested in this too as I just smoked a set of new rear pads in less than 5K and chewed the rotor up...looks like I need to send Rick a PM -
VMAX Rear for RSV ordered
Squidley replied to Freebird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I dont think it's going to dent the fuel economy at all, the engine will be in a better RPM for the powerband and it's "sweet spot" I have been wanting to do this for about a year now and I just never got to it. Looks like I'll be sending that spare G2 rearend I bought for it in and have it done -

Looking forward to hear how the new rearend "feels" Keep us updated -
That is good advise and I know that many folks here have done just that. When I had my 1st gens that exactly what I did and loved every minute of it

Steve, The sound is one of the biggest things as you can drill them out quite easily for a nice bark when you get into the throttle. I personally like them better than the stock pipes as the slash cuts match the angle of the rear saddlebags perfectly. I have never been a fan of the 1st gen mufflers looks, they're ok but nothing that I go crazy about. These H/D pipes are much better looking on the RSV's as they are a nice fat look. I think they flow better with the lines of the RSV...just my .02

Me thinks there might be a problem there....I have never heard of that one before
-
Nate, If your bike doesn't have a CB on it, then I would scrap the stock radio and buy a CD player aftermarket radio with an auxillary jack in it. This way you can plug your MP3 player in it for the best sound quality and use CD's also should you choose to. Put a different set of speakers in it that match the power output of the radio and your good as gold

Can I make these fit?
Squidley replied to tiny84's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You'll have to make some brackets and do some modifying to the pipes coming out of the collector. It has been done by a few of the members here and there are some posts on it. Go to the search bar above and look for Muffler brackets or Roadking mufflers. -
