  1. Matt, There are 2 1300's in the classifieds, perhaps this could be an option for you. If your going to part it out and eventually sell whats left on ebay wait until the spring as it will bring better money. I know that you will get a lot of our members that would be interested in parts. They are pretty fair with what they will pay. Good luck in whatever choice you make BTW...Black Owl might still have his 1300, I believe he was going to sell it...might shoot him a PM
  2. Terry, It all depends on what your looking for in a bike. Are you looking for a full touring machine? or just something to put a few hundred miles on at a time? The Venture is made for the long haul and loves the highway, but there is a price to pay. The machine is VERY big, and somewhat top heavy. It can be cumbersome at slow speeds. The reason I mention this is if you are looking for an around town machine, perhaps the Venture won't work as well. Now if you are riding 2 up and are looking to take long rides and be very comfortable doing just that...then this is the rig you want. It's a totally different machine being it's a V4 instead of a twin, that takes a bit of getting used to. It has all the toys and bells to make long rides comfortable, like cruise, sterio/CB and the full fairing. They are extremely reliable and are a blast to ride once you have gotten used to them. You will get many responces to this post I'm sure, but this is just my take as I'm not sure exactly what your looking for in a bike. As always ask questions, as there will be many answers
  3. Oils There is many opinions on the subject and we have seen many posts. What you looking for is something that isn't energy conserving. Personally I have used Shell Rotella T 15W40 in my bikes with good results. The Mobil 5000 I believe is an energy conserving oil as I had some clutch slippage when I used it. If you go up top to the search bar and type in oil...you will be overwhelmed with the posts on it. That might help you, or scare you, but give it a try and see if you can make sence out of it for you
  4. Matt, As mentioned it's all somewhat in your mechanical abilities. If your handy and mechanically inclined then maybe you can try to fix it. But, you could jump into it and really wrap up lots of hours trying to fix all the "little things" that could be hiding. Not trying to be preachy but if you dont have a great tool selection and aren't used to how things sometimes can be a buggar to get apart...I would look elsewhere for help or another bike. There are deals to be found and it seems to me that if your wife loves to ride also, then perhaps a 1300 Royale might be the trick. Then you wont have to worry about 2nd gear and there is lots more room in the saddlebags and trunk. Probably not what you wanted to hear, but some food for thought just the same
  5. Thats a drag, I haven't purchased anything from Bike Bandit, but I would surely keep the pressure on them and explain your a member here with 3000+ potential buyers. Too bad that some places drop the ball and seem to really not care
  6. Took the words out of my mouth Jack I see the old buggar has a beard now...gives him a look like "I have many stories to tell"....and he always does
  7. It is fun getting up like that, my last ride was in the Persian Gulf on our H2. That is a real trip hanging out the door with a gunners belt on Glad you had a good time
  8. I expect nothing less from you folks....good job
  9. Thanks for the update Terry It will be interesting to see what he ended up getting
  10. Very Nice Jess! Good to see your getting your daughter into the sport, not enough kids going that route. Thats VERY cool in velvet Got a lot to be proud of there....good on you both PS. thats definitely worth missing a M&E
  11. In a word....Yep!
  12. For what these bikes are, they are rockets. A properly tuned 1st gen can keep up with anything in it's weight plus some. It's always fun the 1st time one figures this out with a bit of rightwrist itis
  13. Always interesting to see the inner workings of your mind Chuck
  14. Larry, If I'm not mistaken today is the day that your going in for your ear surgery. My best wishes are with you my friend and I'm looking forward to a successful posting . Your in our thought buddy, be safe and we'll talk with you soon. (and if I'm mistaken on the date...then this will be the good luck post for when it is )
  15. I do make the brackets, but some folks like to save a bit of money and do it themselves with the couple of different ideas that are on the site. As far as the mufflers if I'm not mistaken the '05's and up have the converter due to the FI.
  16. Sorry about the hijack Joe Richard and Mini...it's going to be a fast and furious weekend to be sure. We'll be leaving out of Detroit Friday the 28th after I get out of work and drive basically till we drop. Next morning finish the trip and unpack the 20 ft trailer that we will be hauling, then turn around and head north. I have no timeline and there wont be much time for socializing unfortunately. I'll give you folks a call on the way there, but it's a hell of a ride just to come over to see us unpack a trailer and then leave. We'll see how the cards fall and go from there
  17. This is the one I have in the trunk of my RSV and I just bought the thicker 3M double side tape to put it on...has been on the bike for 4 or 5 months now with no problems http://www.smarthome.com/46152.html?src=WG1011039
  18. Its noisy if Charlies head is in it :rotf::rotf:
  19. Tom, You might want to put on what you think is worth parting out. Also put the parts in that classified section on the site, there probably wont be a lot left after the 1st gen sharks get through with it
  20. Ed, They do not frequently break, so I wouldn't loose sleep over it It is a 20 + something year old bike, so unfortunately these things are to be expected...you'll be fine
  21. Joe, I'm not sure if we'll be able to make it or not, we are getting ready to help Lonna's niece move to North Carolina. I'll know more in a few days, but there will be plenty of folks there that can help you with the bike
  22. I know how you feel bud, you 2 are in our thoughts...but you knew that. Send our hellos and we'll catch up with you soon
  23. It's an interesting idea, but I'll come out and say it....I wouldn't like to see the official logo changed to something different. Perhaps we could embelish something else as a limited edition, but I dont want to not have the original design available or changed to something different. I'm all for ideas, and please believe me I'm not trying to squash anything that anyone has in mind. But I want to keep the logo as it is as the official trademark of this group. It's part of our history and I would like it to be passed on like that. Just some babbling out of me, but I'm open to hear others ideas and takes on this
  24. You guys are going to win the contest of who knows more about a Hondas on a Yamaha website
  25. What a wiseass
