We have a WADDLE
Squidley replied to Marcarl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If I'm not mistaken the '83 was the one with the majority of the frame issues. I dont believe that would be an issue...but it's a good thing to bring up. I'm sure this problem will work itself out, I really dont see the tires being the main culprit here. If there was a flaw in the workmanship I would think that the issue would rear it's head at slower speeds and progressively get worse. -
Good to hear you got it on the run Carlos, sometimes the easiest things are the last that we think of

GW, I tend to disagree, I believe that this an isolated incident. There are MANY folks here that run Avons on 1st gens with zero issues like this. I have had 4 sets of Avons on 1st and 2nd gens with none of this problem occuring. Seeing as Wayne and Carl both had there tires balanced at the same place leads me to look heavily in that direction. It was mentioned that Carl had the tire rebalanced and the weight came out minimal due to spinning the tire on the rim. A good tire man will do that if he sees that a tire is taking a lot of weight. I think this problem will come out in the wash as Carl has run Avons on this bike before. -
Craig, If it's any concellation I would love to ride with you, but having a bike that needs a little TLC and Bronchitis is making it hard....you have a great ride

86 Trunk to replace 83 trunk?
Squidley replied to windrider1983's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Other than ebay, the only other thing I would mention is to put an ad in the classifieds under the wanted section. Perhaps there would be a member that has one and would be willing to part with it. -
I'm looking forward to seeing it this year Bob

Carlos, The ignition switches fail and do strange things, it seems like it might be pointing in that direction. Sleeperhawk had a problem a few weeks ago with the bike just dying and they got it back going by spraying the hell out of the inside of the switch with WD 40. Give that a try and I would look into replacing that switch soon.

Fork Brace List
Squidley replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I kind of figured that was it, but I wanted to be sure. Some folks here on the site get very upset when a mass email goes out, even though they have the ability to control it through their settings. .....thanks for thinking of my health though...pops -
86 Trunk to replace 83 trunk?
Squidley replied to windrider1983's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You will have to swap over the trunk bracket also but it can be done. Matter of fact the '85's had the same style trunk (space wise) but the backrest wasn't adjustable like on the 1300's ('86 and up) and if I'm not mistaken they are still removeable like the '83 and '84 trunk. Marcarl has an '85 and I'm sure will chime in and pass on his .02 worth. You can do it and to me it's a great improvement as there is a decent amount more space in the 1300 trunk. -
The upper fairings will absolutely fit all the years, they are interchangeable. The headlights are different on the 1200's '83 to '85 The 1300's, like yours, is styled different, but that has no bearing on the upper fairings. The best bet for finding the handlebar remote is Ebay or a cycle salvage yard. Perhaps there might be a member that has a spare and would sell it to you. You also can put up an ad for it in the wanted section of the classifieds. The hard start issue, now is it turning over slow or spinning without starting? If it's the latter then a tune up sounds like it's in order. I would suggest that you go completely through it and put a new battery in along with atleast wires plugs and caps. Start with the basics and then you can narrow down any future problems. The 1st gen tech library is a great source for info, and never be leary of asking questions, we'll answer them as many times as it takes....welcome to the club

If you could post a pic of it we could figure it out fairly quick I imagine.

Lowell, So sorry to hear of your grandson, as hard as it is to see a little one go so young, sometimes it's for the best. Your family are in our thoughts, be safe my friend.

Need help/advice....FAST!
Squidley replied to BoomerCPO's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks for the update Boomer...glad it all worked out for the better -
I can appreciate you coming on and informing us about the legality of all this. Unless I'm mistaken a patent is good for 7 years, how long has the superbrace been made, and is the unit we are buying an exact replica? Your issue would be with the mfgr of this and not directly with us. I am open for dialog and feel free to privately PM myself about this issue.

Help!!!!! - No Power
Squidley replied to StarRider07's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes it does Boomer, all the G2's are the same -
If it looks like it has been taken care of, and the mileage is right, he'd better snatch it up at that price. The issues that may arise wont be much, I would get on that right now.

Very Nice, that blue is a beautiful, wish they would have made the whole bike that color

Boomer, Make sure that all your vaccume lines are in good shape on the intake manifolds. I had the same thing and it turned out to be the vaccume line that went down to the ais that I forgot to plug when I removed the AIS. Seeing your AIS is plugged now I would just install the little nipples on all the ports on the intake manifolds. -
We have a WADDLE
Squidley replied to Marcarl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Carl, Perhaps you didn't torque the rear pig correctly when you reinstalled it. I know that they can get a bit out of alignment if you dont do it right. Here's what I do when reinstalling... 1 Install pig in tube and stick driveshaft, install the nuts on the studs and just snug them down. 2 Install rear rim and tire onto pig and assemble all the brake components and install rear axle. 3 Tighten the shaft bolt (12mm) so the axle bolt can be torqued, torque the nut and then release the 12mm shaft bolt, the swing arm will spring into it's proper formed shape. 4 Loosen the 4 pig nuts that are snug and then torque them down in a criss cross fashion. Everything should be where it normally sits. This is how I have done ever single one of my Ventures and I have never had any problems. Some others may chime in and add or detract from what I have mentioned, but I have never had any problems doing it this way with over 80k worth of riding. -
It appears that we'll have enough to make a sizeable order Jack

It's small, I have seen one but it didn't seem to fit the bike. I would look for a used Venture trunk, it would match much better. Come to think about it, Lone Eagle installed a HD trunk on the back of his RSTD and it looked real good.
