My wife and I suffered the same thing as out tire blew out at 75 mph in Louisiana on I 10....I know we are fortunate to still be here. I have always kept a good eye on my tires and dont push the limits when it comes time to replace them. Always good to keep this type of thing in your minds before a trip or ride.

There are a few folks here that have installed different mirrors on their 1st gens. Go mup to the search bar and type in mirrors and it will bring up all the threads that pertain to this.

I haven't heard any big negatives on the wings either. I do know that denden had one right about the year your talking about, might want to PM him and pick his brain. If the price is right...do it PS tell mom we say hello

Fuse box upgrade question
Squidley replied to Gdserlin's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Gerry, here's a pic of my '86 whereI changed it over to spade fuses. Here is where I bought it, they also have a 6 position but I liked having the 8 one for additional uses. http://terminalsupplyco.com/Store/Product.aspx?pc=ATO-FB8 -
New tire, caliper now over-heating....

Front wheel George....but thats great info for doing the rear -
I'd like to take a minute and hopefully shed some light for some folks perhaps. Now I know there are a lot of folks here that have met me or know me personally. It's hard on the internet to trust someone that you really dont know, especially when they come on asking for money donations. I dont expect folks to trust me because I am a moderator or that I post a lot, thats not reality in this day and age. There are many folks that will attest to my character in the fact that I keep track of every cent that is donated for whatever. I keep detailed records of all the trans actions, and I have and never will screw folks here out of money. This being said, I can understand folks not necessarily wanting to send monies out to me for this donation....you dont know me, and I appreciate that. What I would like to suggest is if you do want to donate, and you just dont feel right sending money to me for this event. Please feel free to go to Mark Stills Tribute page http://stj.convio.net/site/TR/Events/Tribute?px=1618382&pg=fund&fr_id=1341 at St. Judes website and donate directly, all we are looking to do is help St. Judes. None of us that are involved with this will benefit monetarily, we just believe in this cause. I have mentioned it earlier, if you have questions or concerns, by all means get ahold of me either through email or PM. To all that have donated thank you again for your trust, and for those that will donate.....thank you too

Honda did a much better job of marketing the Wing back in the '80's, Yamaha didn't do squat. The 1st gen Venture was WAY ahead of it's time, there wasn't an era wing that could keep up with it. The new Wing is an awsome machine, I have rode a few, and there is no comparison between the 20 + year old technology and the new Wing. Sorry to say, the 1st gen wont outperform one, but they can keep up pretty well.

Squidley replied to timgray's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Tim, I'm north of Detroit, if you want to shoot over I have a carbtune and would be glad to sync the bike for you and show you how it's done. -

Check and make sure that your pads are in correctly, yes they can be put in wrong...dont ask how I know that and yes there is some soft noise after installation until the caliper centers itself out. -
Very Sad, very sad.....Lonna and I know what it's like to loose a child (granddaughter for us) You folks will be in our thoughts, it makes no sense to us, but the maker obviously has a reason...all the best to your family.

It's been said that when you attend a function, be it M&E or a rally, you'll be addicted. We went to the 1st PIP and it was a Hoot, laughed so hard it hurt! I'm glad to see that you had a good time and made new friends, thats really what it's all about

Brads on the right track, if you haven't done a COMPLETE tune up, dont waste your time with anything else. Get that done 1st and then start troubleshooting, clean all your connections and then start with thermostat and so forth....

Just for reference, a properly tuned 1st gen WILL scare the hell out of you. How old was your Beemer? I have had my 1st gens with the wheel off the ground both in 1st and 2nd gear, so there is plenty of power, you just have to get yours tuned right. Remember to keep in mind that your talking about a 20+ year old machine, there are lots of upgrades if you want gadgets. Enjoy new to you ride and check in often

What Would Happen If?????
Squidley replied to keikat02's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Allen, Sounds exactly like the sync is wrong, thats typical of a bad sync. You might find that one of the members close by you may be willing to come over with a carbtune for perhaps an Ice Cream -
Jack is right on track, I'm thinking right at that 13K mark but when someone pulls info up, it will tell that it's been in an accident. That will scare many people off, good luck in selling it
-
Sounds exactly like what Lonna has...and is Carpal Tunnel. You need to go get it tested and they will do the surgery. Her symptoms are just what you have described to a T.

Well I am getting older by the minute Jim....but I wasn't expecting Mike to come up with that. Good thing it was an almost pee'd

07 RSV midnight Warranty , mechanical Warranty only?
Squidley replied to Brian D.'s topic in Watering Hole
If you bought it new with 1 mile on it, there's no way it was bought from an auction. I bought my '08 at Toledo east, it's a full warranty, I'm sure the dealer you took it to either did paperwork wrong or is trying to see if you'll cave. Their probably mad that you didn't buy it from them and are seeing if they can squeeze more money out of you. Give them 1 chance to make it right and apologize for what they are saying. If not then I would absolutely let them know that your contacting Yamaha and will be pursueing a formal complaint against them. And by all means DO THAT! dont let an unscroupulous dealer get away with anything. -
Thrust washer inside the case, not a fun job, but many of our members do it. As mentioned there are many write ups on it and if your mechanically inclined, you should be able to make it happen

Let 'em go, if they wait for you then you know where you stand. If not, say a prayer for them and enjoy your ride.
