Chris, It's good to see that YOU are telling us this story, any crash you can walk away from is a blessing. I do hope that you folks can find this puke and get some justice out of this. As always if you need something let us know, even if an ear to chew on....we'll be here. Take your time and heal up, you'll get back in the wind soon....be safe.

That a good idea also, I have a set of lights on my '08 right now that have H4 bulbs in them. This meaning that they are low/high beams and I have them hooked up to the headlight so all 3 are switched low or high with the handlebar switch. I always run my driving lights on when I'm riding, day or night. I'm all about being seen and more lights up front is better

Need a carb question answered
Squidley replied to Squidley's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
No worries my friend, thank you for thinking of me on this one -
It's interesting of the responces here, and let me add that I am not saying to ride with your high beams on day and night in traffic. I hear a lot of mention about more lights, sorry to say that if they dont see 1-55 watt halogen light, they're probably not going to see 3. I'll add this too that I have totally missed a bike with LOW beams on and I look for them. I didn't know their lights were on until they were a few feet from me. Properly aimed lights are a big problem too, look at all your new vehicles and tell me how bright their low beams are. I too have been instructed by teachers of motorcycle saftey courses to run with your high beams on during the day. I have done that for 20 years and unless there has been some huge change in their thinking, I will continue to do it. I'm all about being seen on my bike, and I will use every means available to make that happen

There are replacement 35 watt bulbs to be had as I swapped over when I installed them on my 1st gen. I used them as additional lighting on the 1st gens as there wasn't enough light for my liking. It will impact the charging system a bit, but nothing drastic unless you have tons of extras added on. I always had the ones I installed on a separate fuse with a direst connection to the battery and a relay installed.

PCW racing in Schenectady NY, John Ganey is the man to talk to http://www.pcwracing.net/ I have installed his clutch kit in a dozen or so 1st and 2nd gens, less than $100 and can be installed in about an hour on the 1st gens. I'll never use anyone else and his service is top notch

Sorry to say that I disagree... I run with my brights on all day everyday, and when people flash me I kindly wave back at them (no not with my middle finger) as the high beam has done it's job. I would much rather piss someone off than have them tell my widowed wife "I didn't see him"

I know we have a lot of smart cookies here, and I need a question answered. I am currently working on an '86 for one of our members and need to know is there any difference between the 1200 and the 1300 cc bikes carburetors? I need the #2 carb as I can't get the Air/Fuel mixture screw out as hard as I have tried. So my question is can the 1200's carb be used on the 1300 engine

gas mileage question
Squidley replied to slick97spirit's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Gas mileage is such a subjective question, you'll get many different answers, and yes the choke didn't help your at all. The bike will also run lousy after sitting for a while with Seafoam in it. I always, after it's been setting all winter, run the hell out of it and get the old gas and Seafoam out of the tank. That 1st tank will be lousy gas mileage. Lots of variables go into fuel economy, where you live, strong winds, rightwristitis....ect I get a consistant 38 mpg with my '08, I DONT baby my bikes as I like to play with them. Make sure the carbs are synced and ride it to have fun, thats why we bought them right -
Josh, The controls are very futuristic looking from the stand point of when the bike came out. It was ahead of it's time when it came out and was designed to go head to head with the Goldwing, which it did very well. Now 20+ years later the majority of the folks that own 1st gens are chasing some sort of issue. Understandable with any machine that is that old, just ask SWIFTY how many times he has had his '86 tore apart in his living room There will ALWAYS be debates when it comes to the 1st and 2nd gens. Some just dont like the G2, they say it looks like a Harley. 1st gens look like a Goldwing, always have, always will. It's all about what YOU are comfortable on, I can never go back to a 1st gen for touring as my G2 is WAY more comfortable for ME and my wife. I have had 3 of each gen and they were all fine bikes, but I got very tired of HAVING to fix issues on the 1st gens, thats why I changed over. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and to me both bikes are beautiful. They have totally different styling and handle very differently, just like everyone on this website

Those are the exact lights that used on my 1st gens, for the money they can't be beat....good article, thanks for putting it up Boss

What a Ride!!!
Squidley replied to Kurt827's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Kurt, The Left front is the linked brake to the rear petal. I have had the rear caliper hang up on one of my 1st gens. I would take a look at the rear brake reservior and see if it is clean. Many times, as Randy mentioned, the return oriface in the reservior will be clogged. If you have too much fluid in the rear reservior it can cause this as it will expand causing the caliper to compress. Check your fluid level in it and start from there. -
There you go, a dilusional 1st genner that decided not to let the whole truth out If he was on his bike he would have been able to sweep right around all that and get closer....For shame
