    As much as I hate hearing of you guys putting 100 lbs of air in a tire to seat it, lube the hell out of the bead and the rim. That is the only thing that is going to make it go on easier. Like Forrest mentioned, clean the rim to as smooth as you can get it.....good luck

    That is a great idea TJ...maybe your sis can make a few extra bucks doing that on certain other bikes

    I have used both these oils and they are great to use. I wouldn't switch to the synthetics, you will start to leak, I had that happen on my 1st '86 and just went back over to the dead dinosaurs.....dont waste your time. Steve, I dont know about all cases, but everyone that I have done or personally seen done has turned out the same, they leaked oil. This could have been the fact that the condition of the gaskets were less than perfect, and on a 20+ year old machine that is usually the case. Synthetics are great tools, but proper oil changes on any machine will extend the life of any engine.

    I dont think you damaged anything, the forks are pretty stout. As far as changing the oil in the forks if I understood you right you said you were pulling the retaining bolts under the fork tubes. If thats the case your draining them from the wrong area. There are 2 phillips head screws on the back side of the lower tubes that you drain the fork oil from. Pull that one out and see what drains out, let us know how you do and we'll get you in the right direction.

    Make sure that if you fabricate something like that, make it bomb proof. Your asking an extention to hold the entire weight of your passenger upon getting on the bike. Thats not meant to be a smartassed statement, just keep in mind that the floorboard mountings are made to support LOTS of weight...just wanted to toss that out

    Stardbog bought his Strat back and installed a front fairing on it. Looked pretty good and offered fair wind protection. If you have sat on it and taken it for a ride and like it...do it. They are very torquey as I rode Stardbogs when we installed his car tire on it, it's impressive.

    Dick, You put the right oil in, every 10W40 oil I have ever seen isn't energy conserving, and that is what I ran in my '08, same exact stuff. You may need to pursue a different clutch basket for the whine. The oil drain plug shouldn't have a "Gasket" if I am understanding you correctly. It should be a crush washer and no you dont have to change that out everytime

    Jonas, Even though I didn't get to spend the kind of time I would have liked with you, I thoroughly enjoyed the time I did get to chat with you. It's great to hear that your trip was more than what you expected. It was our pleasure to have you in our country and hope you will come back again. Be safe in Greenland right now and here's hoping for a safe and quick return home to Iceland. Just remember if you need anything, just ask it of us....take care my friend

    The fuel filter sounds like a solid guess, I would also have liked to know if you pulled the tank gas cap off. If the vent in there is plugged it wont breathe properly and will kill the bike until the vaccume is relesed. I would look possibly into cleaning the vents out in the gas cap.

    Make sure that the vaccume hose is hooked up on it and in good shape. The module is behind the right front fairing up high and the vaccume actuator is on the left hand side of the bike.

    Thanks Matt, Were still in the testing phase and need a good TCI to troubleshoot Daves bike. If we narrow the problem to it, then we'll have to start to search out a good used one to install on his bike.
