  1. Stardbog bought his Strat back and installed a front fairing on it. Looked pretty good and offered fair wind protection. If you have sat on it and taken it for a ride and like it...do it. They are very torquey as I rode Stardbogs when we installed his car tire on it, it's impressive.
  2. Steve.....still wiping tears from my eyes A way with words is an understatement and just what I needed to get me rolling at this ungodly hour
  3. Dick, You put the right oil in, every 10W40 oil I have ever seen isn't energy conserving, and that is what I ran in my '08, same exact stuff. You may need to pursue a different clutch basket for the whine. The oil drain plug shouldn't have a "Gasket" if I am understanding you correctly. It should be a crush washer and no you dont have to change that out everytime
  4. I know about going down Bob, glad to hear you and Karen are doing OK
  5. Sorry but I have to go bleach my eyes
  6. Jonas, Even though I didn't get to spend the kind of time I would have liked with you, I thoroughly enjoyed the time I did get to chat with you. It's great to hear that your trip was more than what you expected. It was our pleasure to have you in our country and hope you will come back again. Be safe in Greenland right now and here's hoping for a safe and quick return home to Iceland. Just remember if you need anything, just ask it of us....take care my friend
  7. Thanks David, I know that Dave is going outta his mind not being able to ride, and I dont blame him. Do appreciate all your help with this
  8. The fuel filter sounds like a solid guess, I would also have liked to know if you pulled the tank gas cap off. If the vent in there is plugged it wont breathe properly and will kill the bike until the vaccume is relesed. I would look possibly into cleaning the vents out in the gas cap.
  9. Semper Fi.....Thats all
  10. Good on you Jeff Your gonna love the bike and you obviously got the deal you wanted
  11. Make sure that the vaccume hose is hooked up on it and in good shape. The module is behind the right front fairing up high and the vaccume actuator is on the left hand side of the bike.
  12. Avon Venoms or Michelin Commanders
  13. Thanks Matt, Were still in the testing phase and need a good TCI to troubleshoot Daves bike. If we narrow the problem to it, then we'll have to start to search out a good used one to install on his bike.
  14. If you can get that car for $2K I wouldn't hesitate, that 3800 is a great motor and the mileage will be decent also
  15. Interesting.... But here in SE Michigan they charge you more for gas if you use credit. I'm not sure of the debit, but I dont believe that if you use debit that they charge you the higher rate. I could be wrong on this, all I ever use is my debit card to fuel up. I have never had any issues at all with using it, and I always use it right at the pump
  16. Hey Folks, Dave Pankow can't seem to get a break with his 1st gens. I am helping him work on a no spark issue and it's looking like it's a TCI or in his case being a '90 VR a DCI. It appears that '90 was when they went to the different control system for the spark, so anything before '90 wont work on his bike. MICarl has been helping us with this problem and is of the belief also that this may be the culprit. What I need to know if some of you pack rats out there have a good spare TCI (DCI) that we can test his bike against. This would only be to verify if in fact this is the problem, if anyone can help him out it would be greatly appreciated. You can PM me or Dave (Jus monkeyin around) and let us know...Thanks in advance
  17. When replacing the front springs they need 1 to 2000 miles before they are properly broke in and seated where they want to be. Give it some time and if it's still harsh go to 10 wt oil
  18. Cindy, Like they have both mentioned, dont loose your cool, this is one more nail in this guys coffin and you can do it. You keep remembering that your in control and like mentioned if he interrupts you just let him know it. You'll be just fine and will do what you need to do, were all behind you kiddo....you have the phone # use if you have to
  19. Gary, Lonna and I were married at Tehquamenon Falls in the Upper pennisula, I would definitely recommend that, also Whitfish point. 119 north of Petosy is called the "Tunnel of Trees" (I believe) and is a ride that I have heard about but never done. The western lower is a great place no matter where you ride. Wish we could accompany you along part of that trip.
  20. You beat me to it by 60 seconds...I was just about to post one up Happy Fathers Day to all you Muthas ( and those that aren't Muthas) out there
  21. Considering how much new vehicles go for, $535 and dads time are cheap...Happy Fathers Day there pops
  22. If I had to use it on gravel I would put a sheet of plywood under it or a sheet of steel. I dont know that I would trust any MC jack on gravel
  23. Dick, No need for a relay on the LED's just a fuse inline. If your game for a road trip your more than welcome to shoot up here to Michigan and we can wire them in. There is a spare room here and your more than welcome to it
  24. That looks very similar to the craftsman jack that I use. Can't hardly go wrong as they are all made in China anymore so they perform basically the same....I'd go for it if your looking for one.
  25. Do you have a backrest? I can tell you and many here will attest that without a backrest 2 to 300 miles is all you'll get out of an enjoyable ride before fatigue sets in. The 1st 2 things I put on every bike I get is a backrest and highway pegs. There is lots of good info here on this thread, I have heard great things about Rick Butler and the magic he performs on seats. He makes a tailbone relief in them and I know several people here that say it's night and day as far as long range comfort. I wouldn't throw in the towel yet, if you dont have a backrest....get one, and PM Rick to get your seat modified
