My RSTD custom project (Caution, nekkidness inside)
Squidley replied to Sunman's topic in Watering Hole
The bike turned out VERY nice Sonny, your friend has extraordinary talent. I hope to get to see it before we head south, enjoy all the new attention it gets -
....and now you went and changed your name, are you having a midlife crisis
-
I have heard of this one and it comes highly recommended by quite a few of the motorheads I know
-
Nice avitar change there Skinny Squid

Good advise has been given, but I'll drop this in. If it's been kept outside, I would seriously lowball on price. You dont want to chase electrical gremlins on this bike and it doesn't sound like it's been well taken care of if it's been left outside

$50 and you can send it to me...I'll make sure she gets it No really honest!

Has anyone used this Kuryakyn trunk rack on a RSV?
Squidley replied to ToolmanRR's topic in Watering Hole
I have had the one that Boo mentioned here on my '99's and it's worked out very well. The one you have mentioned for the HD I dont believe will work on the RSV, Harley trunk is too flat and square. -
Welcome to the club! Jump right in and ask questions, this is a very tight knit place and you will probably be very surprised how easy it is to make friends and get info on your bike. Hope to see more of you here

Bob, Depending upon which way you took to Sturgis could be a factor. I know when we headed across I90 heading west. I was in a 50mph head/side wind, mileage sucked. Lots of variables go into the gas mileage thing. At 70 mph your bike should be running about 4K rpms, every 1st gen I have had or know of run that speed. Personally my gas mileage on the 7 Ventures I have and do own have gotten on average between 38 and 42 miles per gallon. I am NOT easy on the throttle as I love to play with the bike. It's possible that someone swapped out the rear gears with one out of a Vmax. This would bring your rpms up about 500 in 5th gear. I have never heard anyone changing out 5th gear, the 2nd gens are very long in the tooth and I never switched ito 5th gear on them until about 65 mph as it is a true overdrive. You might want to look into tweaking the bike a bit, could be that the carbs aren't up to snuff. Put a carbtune on it and a complete tuneup with plugs wires and caps, put in a new fuel filter too. Get a solid starting point as far as your maintenance goes and it will be much easier to troubleshoot the bike should problems arise. The bike should average about 40 mpg +/- a couple. Also run some Seafoam or B12 Chemtool through the tank, many times this will help straiten out the fuel system. Welcome to the club, were glad your here

Thats a great price for the package, and the miles aren't an issue at all. I just picked up an '89 with 102K on the clock, runs like a watch. It's good to see you jump right into the site, there is nothing better on the web, this is a family and you will find that out. Best of luck with your new ride and welcome to our little piece of the web, take care of yourself

Those are very similar to what V7Goose uses, thats a decent price. I have a Carbtune and for what I do it works perfectly, I did about 40 carbtunes at maintenance day this year, so it was well worth the investment

Bobby and Tom, Thanks for being there and supporting the family, still hard to find words. God Bless you fellas and the family

Can a Brother get a hand?

The steering head bearings are pretty strait forward. Loosen the center retaining nut on the top of the triple tree and take a small punch to the bearing retainers underneath. Tap it lightly until snug and check for resistance. I will put this disclaimer in, this is a temporary repair as if they have loosened you will probably need to take them all apart and clean and repack the steering head bearings. That would be a MAJOR job and a huge pain in the rear. The oil filter is behind the chin spoiler which will need to be removed to access the front of the motor for the cover removal. It's not a spin on, but a cover that encases the filter. Not a hard job, just a bit more time consuming. -
Damn! That was cold blooded...."Shortcake"
