Clutch Up Grade Ordered
Squidley replied to T.J.'s topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Jeff, It all depends upon how the bike was ridden before you got it. If it was 2 up and hauling a trailer, that puts a lot of stress on the clutches of any Venture. Best way to tell is in 4th gear at a decent RPM get into hard, if you feel it slip a bit as your going into 5th more than likely it is getting weak. Less than $100 and about 1hour time and there will be no more worries.- 21 replies

Fuse Box Upgrade!
Squidley replied to skydoc_17's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I dont keep the plastic cover over the fuses as it just slightly pushes the cover up. Without the cover on there are no clearance issues. Depending upon how you install it that might not be an issue for you, but if you go like I did mine (back on the plastic strip where the old one was) it will more than likely push up a bit. -

Real easy TJ, put it on the sidestand and you wont loose but a few drops of oil. I can have one done and back together in about 30 minutes. If you run into any problems give me a call.- 21 replies

Just reread your 1st line, the tank badges are easy to pull off, the eyebrows or "Whiskers" are not so easy. The chrome piece will come off the tape, but the tape sticks like nothing you have ever seen. It took me 3 days to get the residue off the fairing, so be paitent and use the WD40

Joe, Hang in there my friend, I have gone through it and my ex and I split amicably. There is nothing worth fighting over to make a lawyer rich, there the only winners in a divorce for the most part. I do hope you can get out more, M&E's are great food for the soul, let us know if we can help you with anything

If it does come down to the cabins are for a week, we'll deal with the dates accordingly. The poll reflects individual time periods as far as I'm concerned, not just specific dates. We can be flexible with all of this and iron out wrinkles as they need be. Remember this is the sites rally, not just the planners, if you have an idea or suggestion dont be afraid to toss it out.

The Mon thru Wed is so folks have a few days to get there and a few days to get home. They would only have to take a weeks vacation and not have to push their ride in either direction. Not that it was initially in the equasion, but lodging is cheaper during the week days.

Do you turn the fuel off...
Squidley replied to yamadawg's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have never turned the fuel off unless I was removing a fuel line or the tank. I always keep them on the reserve setting and pay attention to the fuel gauge. I believe that was old school ways when riders turned off their fuel when shutting the bike down for an extended period. -
My pleasure Art.... It was great to be able to spend a little time with you and get that Midnight running better. Besides, I got to take it for a ride and that made me VERY happy Glad to hear that you made it down in 1 piece, enjoy yourself and we'll catch up with you at some point

Barend, I haven't found work in Houston yet, figure it's better to be able to present myself to them in person if they want an interview. There's nothing here in Michigan and I'm tired of being here. I figure that I can just as easily be on unemployment down there than up here freezing my rear off. Folks, Thanks for all the offers of help, we'll play it by ear and see how it goes. I know I am excited to get down there and get life back to a somewhat normal state of mind. We'll keep you abreast of the details as they come...Thanks again

You are correct Randy, the International is going to be at Potato Creek State Park. The poll is to decide what dates it will be held on, here's the link to the poll. [ame= http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41146]http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41146[/ame] Just for clarification, there is only 1 place that we pick to be the international each year. This is the one that all our vendors contribute to as having regional IR's would be rude of us as they might feel obligated to donate prizes to 2 rallys. I know some folks want it out west, I can relate to that and would love to head back out that way. Perhaps for the 2011 IR we can start to look at options for moving it westward.

Same here, full choke out to start and then push it in to idle it down to about 1500 rpm while I suit up. Once I get rolling down the road I push the choke off completely.

thanks to those in chat last night........................

I can absolutely relate to you David, the 1st few times I got back on after our accident I was very nervous. The 1st Highway run left me exhausted as I was so tense that it fatigued me after about 30 minutes. I still think about while I'm riding, but I'll be damned if I'm going to give up the only thing I love to do. Keep kicking those demons in the arse, you'll come through. -
