Jack, This can be an issue with some of them, the only fix I have found is to remove the brackets from the angle bracket they sit on. You have to make a gusset for that small bracket and weld it on, bolt it all back togetrher. As far as the valve cover gaskets, I thought you had your mechanic in Ft. Collins put a set on? If not the only way to keep them from leaking is replace them....thats a job. Have you swithched over to synthetic oil? if so that is most likely your culprit as older gaskets will tend to start to leak once synthetic is installed. -
Cool story, I am looking forward to getting a good ride in on the '79 Electra Glide I just got from my neighbor. It's never been about the brand to me, this actually is my 2nd Harley, the 1st one being an '86 1200 Sportster with an evo motor. Thats a beautiful stretch of road too, did hwy 1 on the left coast all the way up into Oregon. That was a VERY sweet trip

I would agree with the tounge weight, unless you weighed the tounge (and you might have) there's no real way of knowing. When I load any of my trailers I make sure that I lock everything in so it can't move around during transit. Perhaps this is what happened and you weren't aware of it Another thing, what was the tires on the trailer inflated to?

This is really too much Randy, you and Marcie have been through the ringer. Keeping good vibes for you folks and hoping all turns out well...all the best my friend.

It's amazing how big those are, makes the tractor pulling it look small. I used to do onsite welding repairs for many different heavy machinery, rebuilt cat 992 loader buckets and portable shaker decks. I always loved doing that stuff.....hey I still do

I'd be all over that one, 'specially in Canada

I'm definitely with Jack on this, missing lower fairing legs and if it's been sitting outside you never know what the electricals like, I'd offer $300 and let him know why.

I was hoping that we would have been gone before this weather hit...nothing like mother Michigan sticking it to me again Glad to hear you got a ride in though

Good to see you posting Mel, I'll add that if it's been reasonably maintained and washed...there wont be an issue. Good luck with the deal and here's hoping you ride home on a new Venture

Craig, Many of them are Calcium buildup, I have had 2 of them and as many put it it's the male equivalent of childbirth. Mine were no exception to anyone elses here, never been in that kind of pain before Drink lots of water so it flushes your kidneys out and that usually is all that I have heard to take away the likelyhood of them occuring.

Thank you my friends, I didn't think you'd throw me to the curb It still really hasn't sunk in that this bike is really mine, but it will be the one bike that I will never get rid of. As some of you know Ron was a very special friend to me, we clicked right off and I have very fond memories of our conversations, we thought alike and I truly loved him. I have also decided ( actually from right after the accident happened) that I wanted the bike to be a memorial to him...Now I will make that happen. I have to tell you all something, we all rag on the Harleys in fun, but when the 3 of us Rick, Myself and His cousin Bob set it up to try and start it...it fired up on the 2nd try after sitting for 15 years. It sounded really good and no it doesn't have strait pipes I am excited to get it road ready and take it for a spin. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts with me, I am very happy that I have the opportunity to have a piece of Ron and his family with me

....I have been very humbled today as one of the nicest gestures in my life happened to Lonna and myself. I know that some of you have been following whats been going on with us and our trek to Houston. We have been delaying our departure due to my good friend Ron Gaskill being killed in an auto accident almost 2 weeks ago. We have been helping his wife and daughter get things in order and largely getting his '79 Electra Glide running so I could sell it for her. I wont be selling his Harley to anyone....because Nancy and Amanda gave me Ron's bike. This big fat bastard doesn't cry very easily or is speechless very often, but I did both this evening as they came out of the blue with Nancy's brother (who helped me get the bike fired up) and presented me with the paperwork to put the title in my name. I am very overwhelmed and dont feel worthy of such a piece of their family. I also know that besides Ron, there isn't anyone on the planet that would love this bike and bring it back into shape. So now I have 2 bikes, 1 Yamaha and 1 Harley....looks like I will be staying busy fixing antiques
