Long hard 24 hrs,, my Dad passed away an hour ago,
Squidley replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
Scott, Never easy to see the ones we love go to the other side. At the end of the day, we need to see the simple things, that of which they are home with their creator. We dont really grieve for our loved one, they are at peace, we grieve for ourselves and our loss. How fortunate for you and your family that everyone was able to be with your father until his last breath on earth. As hard as it was to see him pass, you can take some comfort in knowing that y'all were with him as long as possible. I'm sorry for you and your family's loss, I grieve for your pain as y'all are my friends. I hope that you can find the peace you need and remember all the good things you shared with your father....all the best to your family. -
Don, Do what you need to do to make your life dealing with this site easier. We will adapt to whatever changes are made. I KNOW how much time you put into this place, make it easy on yourself to manage it....

New ivan's performance jet kit
Squidley replied to hoochster's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Brian, We just dealt with what you describe with one of our Houston members bike at our maintenance day last weekend. He was getting 25 mpg, the bike ran good, but horrible gas mileage. He decided he was going to put the Ivan's jet kit in it, and he did. He also pulled the carbs off and what we found were floats that were WAY out of adjustment. I set his floats to the manual specs and when he rode it home it went from 25 to 41 mpg. I'm not saying this is your issue, and I would definitely do the easy stuff like plugs and caps 1st. Many of the dealers do not have a clue how to work on the Venture little own a carbureted bike....just my -
Your telling it to us, and thats really all that matters. It's just a machine, and there are more like it. All the best in healing quickly.

I am in need of a bit of information on my cell phone. After I performed a master reset of it to clear all of Lonna's information off, I find that I can't log on the internet through my data. I went to the AT&T store and they stated that I need to have it "Flashed" I read up a bit online and am thinking of doing it myself as everyone wants atleast $50 to do it. Can any of you in the know help me out with any pertinent info on what to do or look for when I attempt this....do appreciate it.

Wish I wasn't working

Good machine, you'll love it

Enjoy that new Grandson Mark

Y'all have a great time, one of these days Lonna and I will do a vacation to just relax. That's not likely to happen anytime soon

Lewis, Get ahold of me, I just took the stock antennas off my '02 and installed aftermarket ones. I'll send you what you need.

Great day to have a birthday, I happen to share this date with you Happy Birthday Tippy!!!

Rod, The carbs are very detailed, not that you can't do them (I'm sure you can) but they have to be broken atleast in half to be able to get at the floats to set them properly. The starter clutch isn't real hard, you may want to check with Dano as he was making an upgrade for the 1st gens that works great. I have installed a couple of them on different machines and they work well. You may also want to check with Dingy as I believe he has a link to a dvd of a complete tear down and rebuild of V max carbs, which are practically identical to the Ventures. If you want to chat my # is in my profile.

Having owned both, No I wouldn't trade for one. If I wanted to carve roads better and faster I would buy an FJR or ST 1300. The 1st gen is a great machine, but for comfort the 2nd gen wins hands down for me. The slight advantage that the 1st gen has in handling over a 2nd gen doesn't really matter to me on a touring bike. If I want to go fast all out, a new Vmax or Busa....

Something to think about as well if Phil and Diane can't help you out (but they probably can) is come down here to Cleveland Texas on October 18th for my fall maintenance day. I have all the tools you need and there will be a lot of other bike nuts here, it's always a good time

We never know when it could be one of us

Just had one of my Combat Vet Brothers get hit from behind as he was doing 65 mph by a drunk driver who was going much faster. Cracked ribs, road rash on both arms, belly, and legs. When it's your time, the man upstairs doesn't wait, terrible shame about the above mentioned folks -
Gary, I'll send it to you, I have an extra stator here, it actually was a new one I purchased and then had issues with the charging system it was in. I ohm'd it out and it's not grounded and has continuity which goes down to 1.0 resistance. I think it's probably good and was going to install it and see if it works. If you want to send me one of your spares thats cool too. It doesn't hurt to have a spare one here as Cowpuc found out when he was down here in early summer. PM me your address as I'm sure I have misplaced it again

Thanks fellas, I plan on selling the bike, but don't want to pass junk on. Your comments make good sense so unfortunately I'll just scrap this one....such is life. Do appreciate all the help.

I have a question for those of you that are familiar with stators and have worked with or on them before. Pictured below (Sorry about the poor quality) is a Buckeye HO stator, it's a fairly low hour use unit. I had installed it on a machine (1st gen) and the flywheel/magnet wasn't the correct one. It shaved ever so slightly some of the winding's. Not to the point of a complete severance but flattened out 1 side of the 5 individual winding's that are affected. I have ohm'd checked it and they are all as they are supposed zeroing out to 0.8. They are not grounded as I checked all 3 leads to the base and there is no continuity. My question is a 2 fold one 1) Will some of the shaving being gone from the wires adversely affect the proper performance of the stator. As I understand it, electricity flows around the wire and not through it. My thought being it still has the surface to flow over. 2) I'm fairly confident that I would need to seal the bare spots. How and what should/could I use to accomplish this if the above statement if correct. I'm not a huge electrical guy, I have some basic understanding of how it works. If you start throwing a lot of technical info at me you'll loose me on this one. Kind of a crash course for dummies would be a much better approach. I appreciate any input y'all can offer me.

The pics shown aren't all RSV seats, the passenger is a bit larger than what is shown. The bike in the last pic isn't even a Venture. He does have a 100% feedback which is ok with over 700 sales. I would request pics of his seats specifically on an RSV before I attempted to purchase anything from him....

Y'all are having a great run at it, Happy Anniversary to both of you

Finally got them made!

Nice out of the box thinking, looks good, I'm sure you'll have folks here interested in a set of them. -
Time to replace Handgrips
Squidley replied to craigatcsi's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I know the Kury ISO grips have been mentioned, I have to say that I am not a big fan of them. They have some cool adds (the throttle boss) but I have had 1 set completely break in half and the ones on my '02 I have are pitted on the chrome due to more than likely the salt in hand sweat. I like the larger diameter as my hands dont cramp near as bad. The ones I really liked were the Yamaha aftermarket leather wrapped set. I dont believe they make them anymore, but if I can find a pair, I'll go back to them.... -
Love the last pic....Moe , Larry and Curly!

Hard to believe that was the 9th one! I remember when Lonna and I attended the 1st one in '06. Y'all looked to be having a great time (as usual) Gary and Ann always are the most hospitable folks. I had to chuckle as I looked at the pics and saw some of y'all with jackets on our lows here are still in the mid 70's lol.
